Mountain Hardwear Men's Exposure II Parka

Ski patrol proven, the Exposure Parka is built to withstand the rigors of daily alpine use. Made with a dual layer of waterproof and breathable fabric, it features a UV resistant outer layer designed to help the parka maintain its performance even after long-term exposure to intense high altitude sun. Despite the polyester reinforcements to resist abrasion from rock and ice, this shell is remarkably supple and exceptionally comfortable. The Simplex pit zips allow ventilation around the mesh-lined CoolMax® torso liner and a powder skirt with gripper elastic keeps snow outside the parka. A specially designed Ergo Hood moves with your head to keep your peripheral vision unimpaired. A buckled webbing strap on back of the hood adjusts with a quick tug from one hand. The Napoleon pocket gives you complete access to the inside of the parka without unzipping the front zipper. There's even a inner pocket that's big enough to hold a quart-sized bottle of your favorite beverage.

  • Waterproof and breathable two-layer Conduit™ fabric with a floating liner of CoolMax™ mesh
  • Ideal for skiing, also suitable for mountaineering
  • Pit zips under sleeves
  • Powder skirt with gripper elastic
  • Ergo Hood won't impair peripheral vision
  • Napoleon pocket
  • Internal storage pocket
  • Fleece-lined handwarmer pockets
  • Weight: 36 oz. (1.02 kg.) in medium size

Fit Tip: This item fits loose. It is sized generously in all areas and allows a full range of motion for all activities. It is possible to layer underneath the jacket in your corresponding size.

So far...so excellent!!!
This shell parka is great so far!!! I'm 6'3" and even with a 39" sleeve length, the XXL sleeves are the right size. My favorite part is that the pockets are big and everywhere. At the ball game last weekend, my son wanted me to hold his drink and I just dropped the bottle in the interior mesh pocket. So far I haven't worn the coat in any extreme weather but I'm sure that with a sweatshirt or fleece underneath I'll stay dry and warm. A few co-workers who are familiar with the Mountain Hardware brand were surprised that I was able to get the coat for less than a similar North Face. It was an outstanding price since I bought the dk. brown (espresso) color for about $150 with FREE shipping! I noticed that now there is only one size left. AMAZING COAT & PRICE!

Fantastic shell!
I was looking for a good jacket for our cold winters here in MN. Someone suggested this jacket combined with a thick fleece (like the North Face Denali). I bought this shell and an army surplus 300 weight polartec fleece and it couldn't be warmer! Without the fleece it also functions as a colder-weather light jacket. I'm very pleased :)

Wonderful choice, love the parka!
Excellent parka, very warm, well designed pockets, main zipper well protected with overlapping Velcro. Hood provides good coverage and collar seals well. Generous sizing which I was pleased with for layering. Highly recommend this parka!

Excellent
Used it at 9000ft altitude at -23F with windchill over a base layer and a TNF fleece. Never felt the cold, nor the 40mph wind. Could use some more pockets, but excellent overall anyway.

Great Jacket
This is the first mountain hardware product I have owned. I bought it for bass fishing, Yesterday it was cold, low 40's all day, windy and the fog was thick. The jacket worked great. The test was 70 mph across the lake and it worked. This is my new fishing jacket.

Perfect
Received this jacket just in time for a winter storm complete with freezing rain. Wore a liner underneath and stayed warm and DRY. I am a 5' 10" gal and buy men's jackets to get the arm length I need. (And also because it's hard to find a women's jacket that's as worried about function as it is about being "stylish") This jacket has a substantial, sturdy feel without being overly bulky. The arm length is perfect and the sleeves don't pull up on your arms when you're active. I have ordered from Altrec multiple times and this was the first time I had a problem with an order--one of my items was out of stock and didn't ship, but I wasn't informed and my card was charged for the item. When I called Altrec customer service they were wonderful. This is the kind of mix-up that can happen to any business, but that has the potential to loose a customer. Instead, thanks to the wonderful customer service team, I still feel absolutely confident ordering from you and recommending you to others. Thanks Altrec!

Great parka and great service
This is a very well though out parka. Everything worked for me except the length. I am 6' 4" and the XL was a bit too short. The material is great and the design is fantastic especially the hood and I loved the long sleeves. I had to return the XL but will probably end up buying the XXL. The service of this company is great. Because of the service, I will definitely be back as a customer.

great jacket
This is my 1st Mountain Hardware jacket and it is great. After reading the reviews from other shoppers and getting a great price, I am very happy with the purchase. I spend a lot of time overseas in rough areas and have chosen this over my more expensive issued gear. Great pockets, great seams, zippers and draw strings, tough material, but fairly lightweight. Plenty of room to wear layers and has a great hood. I will buy another Mountain Hardware jacket! Shipped fast and great customer service from Altrec!

Warm and Dry!
This is my 2nd Mountain Hardware jacket and I love it! After reading the reviews and getting a great price I am very happy with the purchase. I had put the jacket in my closet thinking I wouldn't be wearing it that much now that it had warmed up here (North Carolina) but the next day it poured down cold rain. So I wore it out that night and was nice and cozy and dry! Great pockets, great seams, zippers and draw strings, tough material, but fairly lightweight. Plenty of room to wear layers and has a great hood. I will buy another Mountain Hardware jacket! Shipped fast and great customer service, thanks Altrec!

I like it so much I have two
Nice and tough. Have used as a heavy rain jacket and also as a light super cold jacket. Its sort of in between weights so it can be used for just about everything. I normally wear an XXL but in this jacket in xl is perfect except for the sleeves. I fact the sleeves of this jacket are the only thing I don't like. First of all they are too narrow, so its hard to layer. The second fault is the pit zippers are stiff, I always feel them when they are closed. It would also help it the pit zips unzipped from the opposite direction. The last problem is with the sleeve length, they are just too long. I normally take shirts with a 38 inch sleeve, yes I'm a monster size person, but the sleeves on this XL are about an inch to inch and one half too long. These grips aside, I love this jacket and have been wearing them for several years and they still look like new. Thanks for reading and keep on climbing up.

Awesome jacket
Pockets & features suitable for a variety of outdoor winter activities from skiing to winter hiking. Have been looking for a comparable women's jacket and can't find one with the features I want (lots of pockets for layering up/down on a winter hike). Sleeves still a bit long and hip synch cord sits lower on the waist (men's torso). They should make this same parka in women's sizes. For outdoor high adventure sports, would choose function over look any day. Hence Men's XS will have to do until these companies realize there's a market for women who want durable, functional gear like men.

This has withstood many rainy, snowy, and sub-zero nights. I would highly recommend this shell to anyone. I believe it's the best one for the money on the market. Finally a company who has made a quality product without sticking the customer with an empty wallet and a sore butt.

Great parka wears like iron
Perfect for wet-weather and winter mountaineering. For those looking for wearable tent, this handily fits the bill. I use this in the PAC NW with the shell alone, or with additional layers and found the fit and movement accommodating. Little details like the fleece lining in the pockets, glove loops on the sleeve, the stowable hood and the secure drawstrings justify the expense for the parka. I found the longer sleeves are an advantage on those occasions when one has to remove their gloves, as it helps reduce exposure. As with any piece of equipment there is a tradeoff with performance price and weight. The performance is certainly there, however those choosing weight over price should look elsewhere.

Great Jacket and well worth the money.
MH can produce some mighty slick looking jackets for men. The Exposure II Parka is just another in my long line of collecting Mountain Hardware jackets that I am not disappointed in. I have used mine in blinding rain, snow and just about anytime any dampness is in my environment. It performs fantastic. The pockets are laid out well, the vents offer all the options you would expect, and the adjustments available on the hood and entire jacket cannot be improved on very much. I have only one somewhat MAJOR complaint and is has nothing to do with the performance, just the function..... For all the money I spent on this jacket as well as a MH Windstopper Tech jacket, and a MH Sub-Zero jacket.......None of these will ZIP INSIDE my Exposure II as do most any of the North Face outer shells! Very disappointing in that respect.... This is the only big disappointment and I have really no other complaints at all about the jacket.... If that is no big deal to you (zip other MH jackets inside the Exposure II) , then this jacket absolutely rocks....You will not be disappointed....RFree

Awesome for Skiing and Winter Sports
I bought this jacket primarily for an extended ski and winter sport trip to Jackson Hole, WY I am going on in a few months. I tried the jacket out this weekend on the slopes and I was quite impressed with how warm and wind resistant it is. It was one of the coldest days of the year with a -5 wind chill and snow falling all day and this jacket held up great. I had 2 thin layers on underneath and didn't get cold once. I especially liked the longer sleeves to put over my gloves along with the Velcro fasteners. The hood was key and the powder skirt is great for wind protection. Great deal, awesome value and quality brand.

Great jacket even for women
I can never find a women's winter jacket that is long & that has all the sleeve room for my laying of inside fleece. This jacket worked great in a men's small. I wear a women's mountain hardware size 8 but getting the men's small worked in all my out cold door sports in Jackson Hole Wyo. But girls, you can't wear this jacket without layers it will be too big. great

Great Jacket
Great Looking Jacket. The Pit zipps are somewhat stiff. Great Jacket to stand up to the Noreasters. It is longer than my NF Mountain light and tougher material. I was always affraid of snagging the ML but not the MHW Expousre II. The jacket could use a litte more room in the arm pits. I wear it with the MHW windstopper and it keeps me warm. All in all a great jacket.

Great value
I have only had this jacket for a few months, but have already taken it on three winter hikes. It fit well and kept me warm and dry in 70mph winds with both snow and rain. I have owned a few different shells, but so far this is the nicest I have owned. It is not that light, but for the money it is well worth the extra weight. I have long arms, so the extra arm length and the problem with the pit zips was not an issue. So far the only issue I have had is with the hood. The velcro tabs do not hold the hood in place securely. I would like to see a removable hood, button tabs, or something else. Either way, I did not buy the jacket just to wear around town...

Great coat
When I first received my Mountain Hardware (MHW) Exposure II, I tried it on and thought it had a very large fit. I always wear XL, but this felt real roomy. After I went hiking with with a fleece shirt under it, I was very impressed how MHW put the extra room in this jacket. It is sooo comfortable to wear, I hate to take it off. It breathes great and is waterproof. I can reach and climb without the cuffs riding up my arms or exposing my mid-section to the cold. Great coat!!

Love the Men's Exposure II Parka
Was looking for a suitable jacket for outdoor activities and for coaching. The Exposure II Parka is outstanding for the unpredictable weather in the Midwest. The Conduit fabric keeps you dry and warm through rain and windy conditions. The length of the jacket covers more of your body, which is an added benefit. The overall coverage and design of the hood is outstanding versus other jackets that I have worn. Sleeves tend to be a bit tight, but then I wasn't looking for a large bulky jacket. The actual price is a bit high, but did find the jacket at a discounted price.

Great, great jacket
I have a ratty old Gore-Tex jacket, and I wish I had replaced it with this Exposure II long ago. It is very well built, and looks like it will last a long, long time. I has already proven its worth in some significant rain and wind, and it was perfect. The only downside is that it's a little heavy. But the "breathability" seems good, and I have no problem with the weight because it's put to such good use. Highly recommended.

Amazing Value
The finest jacket I have ever bought, worn and pushed to the limits. This jacket has stood the test of time, too. Purchased new in 1994, I have NEVER had a single problem with this shell, until the zipper finally broke, over ten years later. It has bombed chutes, glades and below zero cruisers year-in, year-out. You will NOT be disappointed! The coat has actually dropped in price since 1994. It was a $300 coat then. You can buy it from an official Mountain Hard Wear dealer for $200 today. Can't be beat.

Skier's dream
A great coat with thoughtful pocket designs and a great water repellency. Conduit is light enough for the spring, but layered, it makes a great shell for the slopes. I recommend using Revivex to recreate the DWR finish at least once a season. The Napoleon pocket is perfect for a camera or Ipod. A great deal for the money!

I don't think it's possible to ever be cold again.
When i first took this coat out of the packaging i didnt think it was going to be worth what i paid for it, but with the under layer beneath it this coat is quite possible the warmest most secure thing i have ever put on. There's almost a vest inside of the parka that you can button and velcro up to keep the wind from coming up inside your jacket and the pit zips, while strange, are extremely useful. I was never a big fan of hoods, but it's there if you want it. It doesn't insulate quite as well as a hood should but i just wear a hat. Completely waterproof. This thing is like a space suit without the weight and the oven like quality where you sweat all over yourself. Chicago winters are going to have to be pretty brutal to make me feel anything.

Functional, Stylish, and Fun
I have been slow to convert to MH as the cost is a little high compared to some other products, however, I have never been disappointed in anything I have purchased. My Exposure II parka has been a great addition to my gear bag as I spent quite a lot of time outside. It has a great fit and keeps me warm and dry with an emphasis being placed on the dry. It is great by itself or with a layer and has stood up to the wear and tear of heavy use. I promise that you won't be let down by the Exposure II.

Love It
I love this jacket. There is no way that I am going to pay $400+ for a shell. I like the $200 price tag much better. I think the durable weave is excellent. I have yet to get wet or let down in any way. My only concern is in reading a few of the reports about the longevity of the DWR? I trust MH did their research before offering a DWR to challenge Gore -Tex. I don't like paying $100 extra on an item or more JUST for the Gore name. I am willing to give Conduit a try. So far I love it.

One tough, great looking shell
After looking at many shells, I bought this one and couldn't be happier. I live in Chicago, so a lightweight shell is out of the question when the temp drops to 5 and the wind is blowing. The Exposure II is a great piece of gear for the northern climes. The DWR finish has held up nicely so far and it layers well, even with the mesh lining. Apart from its great performance, it looks great as well. There is some cachet that accompanies a Mountain HW that isn't found with North Face and definitely not with Columbia. I'm no fashionista, but the Exposure II looks sweet. However, its performance is what makes it one of my favorite bits of gear I've ever owned.

Form and Function
This jacket looks great, but unlike some other jackets I tested, the Exposure II is concerned with more than just its fashionable appearance. From the fleece-lined hand warmer pockets to the easy-to-use pit zips, the jacket design is terrific. Though others complain about its weight, this is not a jacket only to be used for summer rain showers; I like that the jacket can take a beating in the snow, yet still be vesatile enough for most of the rest of the year.

Great jacket! I've just got back from a 70 mile trip through the smokies on the AT. While in the jacket the wind was non-existant, rain bounced off me, and no clamyness at all while putting in 15 mile days.

Awesome parka...tough as nails
This parka is just plain awesome!! It will stand up to briars, sticks, rain, falling down and all kinds of other abuse, too. It breaths very well and the hood is very adjustable. Some people say that it's a little heavy (maybe if you're a todler) but I don't agree. I suggest buying this parka if you are considering it.

Excellent all-around parka
I love the MH Exposure II parka. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I own several waterproof shells but the MH Exposure II parka is my favorite. I'm one of those who prefer a heavier, more durable jacket to ward of the elements and this one certainly fits the bill. It's also really sharp looking. I've always liked MH designs and colors. This parka will last forever.

wicked awesome
Conduit is cheaper than goretex and mountain hardwear makes solid gear - those are a couple of reasons why I settled on the exposure II. From a deluge in the San Juans to white-out conditions on Evans, this jacket has left nothing to be desired - uh - it is a bit heavy and it runs large. Did i mention that it is tough as a damn coffin nail?

Sick!
Bombproof jacket! I've had it for a little over a year, at it has gone through the most skiing I've ever done in one season (and was just as good the last day as the first). The pit zips are great for the days where the mornings are cold but then warm up in the afternoon. Excelent jacket!

Excellent product.
Great jacket. With all of the rain coming up the coast from the hurricanes I have gotten plenty of use out of this jacket already and it has held up wonderfully.

Simply The Best
Simply put, ths is the best ski jacket I've owned. Lightweigt, warm, rugged,& waterproof; who could ask for anyhting else. Altrec beats REI, HTO, and EMS on prices and service. The many varied pockets store all sorts of gear, especially if you are skiing all day and don't like to take many breaks. This jacket is a winner! Drew

Great Jacket
I was a North Face man until I spoke with someone at Altrec who suggested I consider the Mountain Hard Wear jacket and I like it A LOT more than the North Face one that I was replacing. It is sturdier and more rugged and -- in my opinion -- better looking, too. I also like the unique "Napolean Pocket" which allows you to be zipped up, but still have an easy-access inside breast pocket. I will probably give all Mountain Hard Wear products a more thorough review before buying North Face again.

Great Shell for Skiing
This jacket has an incredible fit and all the features you need for skiing in harsh conditions. All the zippers and cords are pretty easy to use with gloves on. I've only had it a month, it's done well through both the wet and the cold storms I've exposed it to so far. So far there's no reason to expect it won't continue to hold in the long run. I'd definitely recommend it.

Love It!
Just got this jacket, but so far I love. Extremely comfortable with more pockets than you can shake a stick at! The big test will be this summer on Mt. Rainier.

An excellent outer layer
Durable, waterproof, and great for use as outer layer. This jacket is built to accommodate layering, but also has pit zips and is very easy to ventilate when changing activity levels. The sleeves are built a little longer, this is useful when reaching overhead during climbs so they don't creep up your arm leaving a cold spot. Very nice parka!

Awesome Coat
This jacket has lots of technical features while remaining stylish and practical. The waterproofing has worked flawlessly and the jacket is surprisingly quiet to wear. I bought the jacket on sale for $190 from this site which was entirely worth it. For a very good value in a high performance coat, I highly suggest the Exposure II.

Watch out im bullet proof
my exsp 2 can survive a gang war, car bombing, plane crash, chemical spills and even a good day at wistler. the nylon ins not flat it is a weave giving it top abresion resitstancy. good for use on hard snow and ice. i took this jacket to devils thumb when i went last year. it was a bit heavy but i was a lot better off in this than my alpha sv. it kept the wind off and the water repelency was great. tap in this shell or your one stupid outdoor enthusiast!!!!!

Excellent jacket for keeping out the bad weather
Very durable, highly waterproof jacket for wet or snowy weather. Material is more durable than other jackets I've had, at the expense of being a bit more heavy. This should be a great jacket for when durability is a must, such as sailing, fishing, climbing, skiing, probably motorbiking as well! The hood drawstring closes snugly around your face to keep out foul weather. Pit zips are a little uncomfortable if you're wearing short sleeves underneath, but definitely help with ventilation in hot weather. Very nice jacket.

Solid Design, some cons
First, Altrec really had good customer service for the sale and fast delivery, plus easy return. Thanks. This is a solidly built jacket, and for the money a very good value. I wore mine for a blistery cold windy walk on Christmas day and it was completely warm and windproof. The material is excellent and I am sure would last a long time. So why did I return it? The hand pocket placement is just too high for walking comfort. Also, the hood does not really roll up nicely, leaving a tall bulky wrap around your neck. It does not lay flat around the collar either (at least when new). So here is what is positive about my negative comments: This jacket is really intended for winter sports use only - period. It is in the class of technical jackets, and the high pockets allow for a backpack waist strap (which would otherwise cover the pockets). The high neck would be great for powder skiing, ice climbing, snow shoeing -- but it is not very stylish around town. The powder skirt is functional and keeps wind out. I am a medium sized guy (5'7 and 145#) and the medium size fit fine. It did not hang too large on its own, and allowed for a fleece underneath. The inner pockets are good and well placed. I had a hard time returning this jacket because there is so much too like, but I really need something more versatile and 3 seasons. For only skiing this would be fine, but for October camping a little overkill. As a ski jacket the hood fit over my Giro helmet and would be okay, but did not really come forward enough across the forehead, so the hood may have a tendency to blow back off the helmet when skiing fast. That is really the only serious design flaw. One comment I read said it fit over one brand of helmet, but not another. If not using a helmet, the adjustable hood would be fine, or perhaps on the large side. The hood and high collar really keep the weather out. I found the jacket length to be fine. My only real complaint with the jacket design is with the underarm zips - they are somewhat bulky and would take some getting used to. All that said, it is a really well made jacket and a great value for a winter sports only jacket. It had nearly every feature I was looking for.
