Sizing ChartMountain Hardwear Men's Matterhorn Convertible Pant
Our full featured backpacking pant, with a clean look. Micro-chamois lined conical waist for smooth comfort under a pack, zip off legs, reinforced seat and knees, ankle zipper, inseam gusset, and just enough pockets.
- Belt loops
- Drawcord at leg hem

- Inner reinforcement panels at seat and knees

- Lower leg side seam zipper with snap tab closure
- Micro-chamois lined, seamless conical waist
- Two rear flap pockets
- Zip close side stash pocket
- Zip-off legs
Fit Tip: I am 6'2" tall, 170lbs with a 32" waist and 34" inseam. The medium waist fit well but you might need a belt. A 33" waist would also fit this size. The pants are not to baggy and not to tight. When the pants are converted to shorts the shorts length came down to the top of the knee cap. If you have an inseam longer than 32" go for the long inseam option.

Love these pants. worn them on long hike both in town and in the hills. Good travel pants. nice weight but not too warm. Also shed water very well. wash them in the sink. dry the next morning. love them

These pants are great just like the Pack Convertible Pant, but with more pockets which really helps. The Matterhorn pant drys quick, and the fabric is very comfort.
Summer - 2009-12-31Great Pants!
I bought these for my boyfriend for Christmas. He loves them. He states that the fit is comfortable, good material, and the pockets are easily accessible. The belt loops are build into the pants so there isn't a lump for each loop digging into your sides when you wear a backpack. Only down fall to these pants is they attract a lot of pet hair.

Absolutely love these pants. Material feels good a thick, sturdy, & warm. Feels rip proof. They feel more dependable than messa pants or canyon pants. Feels true to size. Only complaint would be the belt buckle in the rear. It's to big and can be a pain to get a belt thru especially a fabric belt.

Love these pants. They seem easier to clean than some of my other pants and the waistband is very comfortable. The material also seems much softer than a similar pair of North Face conv. pants I own. I'd highly recommend them!
My only problem with them is that they were a little big when I bought them and I've lost about 15 pounds since then so they're really baggy now. Not really happy with the fit with a belt so I'm def going to be grabbing a smaller pair.

I Bought these pants in the early spring and I'm planning on wearing them through the late fall when hiking and camping. The versatility of these pants is unmatchable by any of MH competition. Great pair of 3 season pants for here in Maryland.

Great piece of clothing from MH. Very easy to zip the legs off and on. Really like the longer shorts, as compared to the shorter shorts with my older MH convertibles. I'm 6'5", 200 pounds --> Large Long worked just fine. No seams at the waist to interfere with hip belt. Sheds moisture very well. Hiked 3 hours in hazy/hot/humid conditions and shorts stayed cool and dry throughout. If you need convertibles, get these. You won't be disappointed.

I wore these pants for five days on a recent trip to Yellowstone. They convert quickly and the shorts are just long enough. They are very adjustable at the ankles for a great fit. I have no complaints... the best pair of converts I have ever owned.

I ordered the medium-long, and the long is just that ... long. The 11-inch short is great and the ankle snap and cord make them perfect. They have no belt (which my wife likes) but, I have my own that I use. Altrec had the best rate on the net.

Awesome Pants! Took these pants with me for a four day hike on The Long Trail...Material is extra durable and comfortable! The attention to detail on these pants are unsurpassed. The reinforced tacking at all stress points; the belt loops make the pants great for backpacking. The fabric, though still light have a better hand (feel) than others in the [con-vert]ible category.

I searched avidly for a month for convertible pants and none matched up to the features or quality of these. The plan is to wear these for three months through n. and s. Europe as they shed water, dry and clean exceptionally well and are conveniently shorts for the heat. Travel pockets are great also. I now have two pairs of these.

Not only do these pants look cool, but they are super comfortable, and have tons of awesome features that make hiking in them a breeze. I wore these while doing the Mt. Wilson hike and it was cold when we started but got hot really quick as we ascended the Mtn. Zipped the pants legs off and felt great! Also the pockets can hold all of your odds and ends that you want easy access to... Get these pants!

I've used them for my last two hikes, and have found them comfortable and well made. One of the hikes was in the snow where they proved themselves warm enough for the job. Hopefully they will last well.

I absolutely love these pants. The fabric has a very substantial feel to them. They have awesome features: long shorts, great pocket location, comfortable waistband, and ankle zips that go all the way to the knees!

Positive: Sturdy material with strong seams and high quality zippers. Extra big loops to keep that belt in place. Long ankle zippers mean you can get them on and off over your boots (unless maybe if you're a Bigfoot). Reinforced seat and knees is a big plus and makes these more than just lightweight hiking pants. Altrec has the best online price and very good customer service. Shipping was also very quick.
Negative: They are cut a little snug through the hips, so if you're near the upper end of your size range I recommend buying the next size up. I had to return my 1st pair and buy one size bigger. The micro-chamois lining around the waist is only sewn at the top so it floats up and tends to bunch up and spill out over the top. This isn't uncomfortable, but it's very unsightly and annoying.
DanC - 2009-05-17Get what you pay for
Lived in these (as shorts) in the Caribbean. Hiked, toured the city, chilled in the pool, swam in the ocean. Good length on these, not your typical "Magnum PI" zipoffs. Front pockets are "Levis style" and don't hold much, but the side zips compensate. Long pant zips, actually get around your boot. Remained comfy on a very vertical volcano hike. Like the soft inner lining. Will drip dry in a couple hours.

My second pair of MH [con-vert]ible pants (also have the Mesa). Slightly heavier than the Mesa. Solid with features that the competition doesn't have. Two gripes: 1. no belt included, as on the Mesa. 2. no traditional cargo pockets (on the sideseam). The pockets result in the items being carried on the top/ in front of your thigh, which is distracting and chaffing while on long hikes. But, that's just me.

These fit true to style and are very durable with the kinds of activities I'll wear them for. Material is soft to the skin, no chafing noted from breaking them in on a moderate hike of 6 miles. I do wish that MH would have included a belt, like they do with other types of pants they make. That is the only thing I'd say detracts from the pants but overall, I am very pleased with them. Great prices and service from Altrec is always a plus.
WallDiver7 - 2009-02-14Fit Dilemma
Mountain Hardwear always does their homework to make sure their products have all the latest creature features that we want! I normally like their products due to their attention to detail, BUT the fit on these pants just doesn't work well for me. I'm 5-10, 169 lbs, 34.5 inch waist, Hips 39 inches, 30-31 inch inseam.
These pants seem to need to be worn very low on the hips for them to work for me.... I consider them low waist-ed (not too crazy about their "ride height"). The mediums were too tight in both the hip and waist, while the large is about right in the hips, but too loose in the waist (both of these were the regular length). When I moved up to the large size the overall length became an issue. Because of the ankle cinch, I could get around this problem... however pulling up the ankles like this means that you'll have a lot of excess material flapping about (the short version would most likely cure this problem, but Altrec didn't list that as an option). What I need is a FAT medium cut! The three stars is only because of my fit problem.
