A mitt system designed for alpine climbing and mountaineering, there's nothing hideous about the Men's Mountain Hardwear Medusa Mittens. With a new Extreme Precurve pattern, and Kevlar stitching, you'll get unprecedented fit, dexterity and durability. The nylon Taslan™ shell has an OutDry® waterproof membrane bonded directly to it, eliminating seams and ensuring total wind and waterproofness. A high pile Velboa™ Raschel fleece serves as both lining and insulation. A removable Deflection™ Soft Shell liner mitt with windblock panels and stretch fleece palm adds more insulation, and it can be used alone thanks to the welded grip patches on its palm and thumb. The shell has a water-resistant goatskin leather palm, and stretch fabric over the knuckles. Let the hardcore quality and design of the Medusa Mittens for men from Mountain Hardwear benefit you, regardless of where you use them.

Shell = Awesome, Liner = Bad First Impression
February 21, 2012

Let me start with the bad, because it will go quickly. The soft shell liner in this glove is pretty nice used by itself, which was my intention from the start since I only need a silkweight liner when using the shell. I wore the soft shell liner to operate my snowblower for about 15 minutes and when I came inside, the stitching on one of the fingers had come completely unraveled. Altrec is sending me an exchange. The shell is awesome and exactly what I was looking for - a tad bit of insulation on the back of hand with not much else. I wear it with a silk weight liner and stay quite warm. I also like the waterproofness of the actual shell material (as opposed to GoreTex where the real shell gets wet and the GoreTex middle layer gives you the waterproofness). I can't say enough about the breath-ability of these mittens. I accidentally got quite a bit of snow in them and couldn't get all of it out. I decided to keep on going and it slowly melted and evaporated. Frankly even if the replacement liner falls apart on me, I'll just toss them in the trash and keep the shell - still a good price for it alone!

Great Mit!
January 22, 2012

My hands get cold pretty easily while I'm on the ski lift, so I swapped my gloves for the Medusa Mittens. These were my first pair of mittens, and they had a surprisingly small amount of insulation, but they worked great. I used them all day, and my fingers didn't get cold at all. At first, I thought the inside liner was a little strange because it is tight at the wrist, which made it a little hard to get on, but it ended up working great. When I got a phone call, I could just slip off the mitten, while keeping the liner on, and after the call, just slip the mitten back on. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend the Medusa Mittens.
