Shell = Awesome, Liner = Bad First Impression
February 21, 2012
Let me start with the bad, because it will go quickly. The soft shell liner in this glove is pretty nice used by itself, which was my intention from the start since I only need a silkweight liner when using the shell. I wore the soft shell liner to operate my snowblower for about 15 minutes and when I came inside, the stitching on one of the fingers had come completely unraveled. Altrec is sending me an exchange. The shell is awesome and exactly what I was looking for - a tad bit of insulation on the back of hand with not much else. I wear it with a silk weight liner and stay quite warm. I also like the waterproofness of the actual shell material (as opposed to GoreTex where the real shell gets wet and the GoreTex middle layer gives you the waterproofness). I can't say enough about the breath-ability of these mittens. I accidentally got quite a bit of snow in them and couldn't get all of it out. I decided to keep on going and it slowly melted and evaporated. Frankly even if the replacement liner falls apart on me, I'll just toss them in the trash and keep the shell - still a good price for it alone!

My hands get cold pretty easily while I'm on the ski lift, so I swapped my gloves for the Medusa Mittens. These were my first pair of mittens, and they had a surprisingly small amount of insulation, but they worked great. I used them all day, and my fingers didn't get cold at all. At first, I thought the inside liner was a little strange because it is tight at the wrist, which made it a little hard to get on, but it ended up working great. When I got a phone call, I could just slip off the mitten, while keeping the liner on, and after the call, just slip the mitten back on. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend the Medusa Mittens.
