Description

Throw on a pack, toss your cares aside, and hit the trails, in your Men's Mountain Hardwear Mesa Pants. A rugged, yet handsome, full-featured backpacking pant, the Mesa sports Mountain Hardwear's patented, award winning Micro-Chamois™ lined seamless conical waist. The conical shape keeps fabric from folding and bunching, and the lack of side seams eliminates doubled up fabric, which can chafe under a pack belt. Fit, comfort and mobility is further enhanced by the full-length inseam gusset and articulated knees. The relaxed fit also helps makes boulder hopping a snap, and if you do end up in the drink, mesh drain panels in the pockets will help shed water. Get the fit, comfort, and design required for long days on the trail with the Mesa Pants for men from Mountain Hardwear.

These pants just plain rock! Solid performance on tough movie film sets while wearing a Steadicam®, which adds up to 85 pounds to my body, means this design and execution was just right.

Did not fit as good as the Piero
February 08, 2012

Seems like a nice pant but it sure did not fit as well as the Peiro pant by Mountain Hardwear. Especially the thigh area seemed very loose, I like the material.

Great replacement for the older "Canyon" pants
August 12, 2012

I've worn Mountain Hardwear's "Canyon" pants for years for warm-weather hiking & climbing trips, and they finally needed to be replaced (they didn't actually seem to wear out, but did end up with a few tears after some rather exceptional mishaps when we were out and about). This "Mesa" pant seems like just the ticket to replace my favorite pants. The fabric is very similar, with the Mesa seeming to be just a tad more robust than the Canyon. They are still lightweight & comfortable in warm conditions. I like the deep pockets -- especially the extra leg pocket. They seem to run just a bit looser than the Canyon pants -- not quite baggy, but definitely more room in the crotch & butt. This isn't a complaint -- the little bit of extra room is a plus when climbing & making long moves. I fully expect these pants to last for years and years like my Canyon pants did. Unless I have another mishap with the saw while doing trail maintenance...

Found these Mesa pants as expected..bit tight around the thighs otherwise fits well.Have used them for light day hikes ,it withstood all that trail had to throw at it. splashed around in streams and it did dry up quickly as advertised.Planning to use them as a base layer when i go hiking in high altitudes soon.

Very comfortable but would have liked a stretch fabric as I have purchased in other MH products. The fit is true to size. I like the thigh side pocket for access while sitting or squatting. Built in belt is also helpful, but can get twisted easily.

Comfortable pants
August 12, 2011

Love these pants. Comfortable an light weight, excellent for warmer environments. My only gripe is the belt. I wish it was a little bit thicker and wider - it's already "rolled" in the waist. It's not uncomfortable; I just think it could be better.

Nice 1
November 21, 2011

This pants is true to it's size & dries up quickly. But there's no zipper on the side(ankle portion), not like in the picture shown in this site. Overall, it's really a NICE pair of hiking/travelling pants.

Good pants
July 09, 2012

These pants are comfortable and the large was a good fit for me at 5.9 200lbs. They dried quickly after getting drenched hiking in an afternoon shower at 12,000 feet in Park County CO. I liked how the pants felt good and were comfortable on and off the trail.

Incredibly Made!
December 07, 2012

These pants are just awesome! Incredibly bullet proof, and really do well in the back-country. Had them on a trip through the desert in Arizona for an extended backpacking trip. Had scrapped up to cactus, sharp rocks, prickly plants and the fabric did not show signs of degradation . Had to traverse on my knees sometimes and there showed "no" wear, just washed and good as new. The stitching and fabric are something I've never bought before, couldn't be happier! I'm 5'10 and weigh about 229 and the XL 30's fit great. Only thing, when you wash them make sure the belt is secure or it will ride up into the waist. Other than that really satisfied and will buy more colors!! Altrec was great in the price and easy to purchase, delivery was great too.

MH Mesa pant 2011
April 28, 2011

I would have a reservation recommending this model, compared to the previous year Mesa pants. The fit is not true to size -a 32 is more like 34-36 and baggy. Also, they removed the cargo pockets, losing some of the utility of the pant. Otherwise, they are comfortable and repel water really well, but this is just a downgrade, rather than upgrade of the 2010 model. Personally, I would not buy this model again.

Great Fit
June 11, 2011

These pants are quality, did not stretch out, and stayed in place during hiking with a backpack. The fit is true to size and the waist band is soft, comfortable, and does not rub. I also liked the slim pockets on the new model of the Mesa pant, in contrast to baggy pockets in previous models.

Thumbs Up!
September 07, 2011

The mesa pants are exactly what I hoped they would be - comfortable, breathable and good looking. I have not used them for rugged hiking yet, although they have been good companions on urban exploration. The black color is about perfect for outdoor use as we as for casual wear. The only thing that stopped me from giving them a a five star rating is the top of the fly to the waist band (belt area) is a little funky, like the zipper should go a little higher or something. That being said, I would buy again and just might buy a 2nd pair in black because it is hard to find great outdoor pants/shorts in black and these are good.

They are OK but fit hubby a little funky
November 12, 2012

They seem to be made well but they fit hubby a little funky. They are a little tight in the waist and hip area but seem to flair out at the base of his hips. First time we have purchased this brand so maybe this brand is not for him.

Good pants
November 10, 2011

I got these for travel to Africa and no doubt they will work fine. My only complaints are stylistic in nature. The legs taper in a bit and the front pockets are really in the front and not on the side so sitting can stab you with what is up front. Otherwise they seem to run true to size and like most MH stuff are well made.

Men's Mesa Pants
June 14, 2011

I recently purchased several pairs of these pants for a trip to Europe. I bought these particular pants because I found that Mountain Hardwear's jackets are very high quality and my all time favorite travel pants (by ExOfficio) are no longer being made. My overall impression from my travel experience is that these pants are very comfortable and seem of fine quality. They are well made and come in basic, easily matched colors. The inner lining of the waistband is made of an extra soft fabric which feels great even after wearing for several hours on a long walk/hike. The pants also come with a belt which looks integral to the pants as it is mainly covered with material - a nice touch. I can't speak to the durability after such a short period of ownership, but the pants material and stitching look as though they can hold up. Two items to consider before purchasing though: First, the waist runs small, like an athletic or slim profile. Second, the pocket placement and design is rather curious. MH designed the pockets to run literally around the waist from the front to rear using one opening that is divided into two pockets. This looks sleak and is easy enough to get into, however there is no closure on the top of the pockets. When traveling the fact that your pockets are not velcroed, zipped and buttoned closed can be discomfiting. This was not a problem for me as I kept valuables in a hidden waist pouch, but just be aware of this design choice. Actually for trail use I can see this design to be quite a good thing as the pockets could be very easily accessed. Overall a very good product that I would recommend purchasing.

Another Winner
August 13, 2011

I haven't worn these on the trail yet but they're nicely detailed, typical of MHW clothing lines (articulated knees, built-in belt, etc). My long-time favorite for general travel is still the Canyon pants for its utility, comfort and clean lines but this pair would definitely serve better for backpacking with its waist area lined with micro-Chammy and cargo pockets placed to accommodate pack belts. Made from the same Canyon cloth, it's quick drying and also suitable for hot climates. As far as durability, they probably won't match the old Pack pants and its heavier fabric; but I also have Canyon pants that are more than 5 years old. I expect these to perform similarly.

Comfortable and Utilitarian
August 21, 2011

I am 6' 1" tall and weigh 170 pounds. I bought medium size and they fit me perfectly. The pants are very lightweight. The Mountain Hardware inside lined waist is a nice touch and makes the pants very comfortable to wear. I have not had them long enough to judge durability. Overall am happy with this purchase and will buy additional pairs when needed.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
