Perfect!
May 12, 2011
For running, hiking, hanging out- anything. Looks great and well made just like much of MH products. I'm amazed at how I can run 10 miles in this vest and stay warm and still have the vest breathe.
Pros: Build quality, Lasts foreverGreat vest
January 03, 2013
The men's Mountain Tech Vest is versatile, light weight and of excellent quality , material , and workmanship. I would highly recommend it to anyone needing a quality layering item as well as a nice looking casual garment.

Good fit, good fabric and great versatility.
February 04, 2009
I have only ever bought Gore Windstopper fleeces; hence buying this vest. It is a great addition to on mountain gear. I snowboard and do some backcountry hiking and it is great for both. It is slim fitting, as per other reviews, go up a size. It is good under a shell or even a lined jacket for maintaining core warmth and is good over thermal wear if the outside temperature is not too cold. Pockets and the high collar make it very versatile and functional and I would highly recommend this vest as a great mid and even outer layer for anyone doing anything on-mountain.
Lightweight and Durable
November 16, 2009
This is a great vest for layering or everyday use. It is a windstopper so it provides plenty of core warmth. I wear mine at least 3 days a week and it really gets the job done even on cold mornings.
great gift for runner/skier husband
December 29, 2009
I bought this vest for my husband who runs year round regardless of weather conditions. The windstopper def helps on those early morning frigid long runs layered with a long sleeve wicking underneath.
Great stuff

Just what I expected. And the computer says I need to type more stuff...so this is what you get. Wait, they want more text typed in this box. Not sure what the minimum is, but if they want more, then this is what they will get from me. Since I nailed the review with the first four words.

Stops the wind
May 22, 2009
I am 6'1", 180 lbs. The large fits just about right but there is little room to layer underneath. The vest is best used as an underlayer to keep my core warm. Lots of pockets. A good deal on sale. Good for cool nights/mornings in summer/spring/fall. Not so much for winter, unless used while doing heavy activity.
well-conceived, well-made
January 15, 2010
lightweight and thin with all the needed pockets--works well as a mid-layer under my Arc'teryx outer shell...........
State of the art windstopper vest; no negatives
October 30, 2005
Three pockets (and one inside) are nice. Liner and back panel seems elasticized and gives easily. Elastic lower border is not adjustable but adapts to body contour well.
Great layering piece
December 05, 2010
The windstopper vest has a nice athletic fit. Not in the warmth range of a down vest, but incredible insulation for its light weight and low bulk. The only con I find to MH Windstopper items is that the texture is a lint/pet hair magnet. serves well for ski days, camping and general cool day wear around town. All in all a great piece.
Pros: Great design, Lasts forever, PerformanceI love it!
September 03, 2010
Light weight, great color, very versatile vest!
Fantastic!
March 09, 2008
I live in Maui and who would think I would need this garment? Well I wear it ALOT! It's a well fitting windbreaker on those overcast days on the golf course with just enough fleece to keep your core warm. The up to the neck zipper option gives it EXTRA versatility in the warm department especially when you are hit by a sudden squall. And talk about versatility, I wear this vest on my annual Cycle to the Sun rides which take me from sea level to the !0,031 ft top of Mt Haleakala and I am totally comfortable the whole way up AND down!! And here's the best part....I like to buy this vest for all my good friends cuz I know they will LOVE it....NO DOUBT! Sincerely, Dr John Mills
pretty sweet

i wear a medium in most things, so i ordered one in a medium, it was too small, but they were really good about returning it, my new large is the bomb, great vest
A great light weight and warm vest.
January 23, 2006
A great light weight and warm vest. Would purchase again in another color.
Great Vest
September 29, 2008
Stops wind, is very light and non restrictive. Easy to wear under a shell or fleece. Great for being on the water and for warm days on the mountain.
Well designed and constructed Windstopper vest
March 18, 2006
Windstopper is, based on my limited experience in breathable apparel, the best combination of permeability for moisture and sealing against wind (and some liquid). Since I live in the high desert I particularly like any well constructed layer that contains this material. This vest is well constructed and expertly designed.
excellent vest
January 08, 2010
This vest is light, warm, and versatile. I wear it to work, to work out, and for camping. The pockets are perfect.
I can wear it everywhere-- it is great
February 04, 2010
I have final worn my vest out after several years and am going to buy a new one soon. Highly recommended.
best I,ve owned
December 02, 2010
I soon purchased a second one of a different color. These vests have a neat and tailored look to go with the superb weathering abilities.

Essential piece of all activity kit.
August 12, 2010
Well what can I say, this is the most used piece of my kit that I have ever bought. So much so in fact that I am about to get myself 2 more and kit out all my staff at our mountain lodge in the Cordillera Blanca with them. It is so versatile that I use it for canoeing, trekking, MTB, Mountaineering, rock climbing, paragliding, skiing... I tried it swimming but it didn't work so well.:-) Just be careful with the sizing , especially if you a are a daft Brit like myself my original was XL(british) so reorder my new one through Altrec XL (american) it was like a tent, but Altrec were great on exchanging it, even when I finally got it back to the USA from Peru. Go for a relatively tight fit, with just enough space for a microfleece and icebreaker micro base layer underneath. it gives plenty of arm movement and is awesome as part of my mountaineering layering system, whether on super fast rescue sorties or guiding those super slow pesky clients. If you absolutely, positively, want the must have piece of clothing then accept no substitute.... Oh and the jacket version doesn't work out so well, get's too clammy, not so breathable as I would like.
Best on the Market!
January 02, 2009
This is by far the best vest to use for layering when skiing in the backcountry or on the frontside of the mountain. I lost this vest backpacking and immediately replaced it. I've worn North Face, LL Bean, etc. this is the most versatile vest you can buy! Do it now!

A great layering vest for active wear.
January 29, 2008
I purchased this vest because I wanted a windbreaker style, not a heavier fleece style vest. My need was for something to wear as a "core warmer" over a single base layer for use during strenuous activity. The Mountain Hardwear vest is perfect for this purpose. Contrary to other reviews, I found the fit to be quite accurate. I had initially ordered an XL, and had to return it for a L, my regular size.
great vest
March 03, 2009
I like the windstopper vest. Its lightweight and non bulky for layering...
true to it word
December 07, 2009

nice vest
January 23, 2006
I got the vest as a gift. The large was a bit snug. I wasn't sure if I was going to keep it or not. I got a larger size and was nuch happier with it. We've had some milder weather where I live and have had the chance to really wear it. I like. Just for the record I'm a diehard northface fan but I think it's important to try new things you never know.
A must have
December 07, 2009
This is by far one of the most used pieces of my gear, it is so thin it can be layered in a number of ways and the windstopping feature is on point, use it everyday when the temp. drops and the wind is howling!
great Vest!!
October 10, 2008
It's increbdibly warm and versatile. I'm 5'7" and 150lbs and the medium fits perfectly. The fit is tailored so it won't bulk up when layering. The zippered pockets (inside and out) are very useful.
Overly pleased
December 20, 2008
I love these vests, I bought this vest for my dad after I've used my vest for about 2 years. They keep you core warm and are very durable. I run about 1,500 miles a year and wear my vest when it starts to get cool and even when it's snowing, with a long sleeve t-shirt. I would highly reccomend this vest to anyone that needs a versatile vest.

very good
January 08, 2006
It's a very nice low-bulk vest. I'm medium build and it fits perfectly. I tend to run warm, so I use it as a mid layer to keep the core warm. Wish it was made in america. I bought my wife last year's women's version which was US made and seemed a little better quality overall. Not that the quality is bad, just maybe a little step backwards from the made in US.
Great light weight wind stopper vest
February 22, 2010
This is a really good vest - very light weight and also stops the wind. It's a bit snug about the waist for those of us with fuller forms.
AWESOME VEST

Excellent must have piece.

So good I bought this for my wife
October 29, 2009
My wife has admired my Windstopper vest for over a year and so I bought one for her this fall. None of the female styles appealed to her so we purchased a men's vest. She wears it at home, in the office, and outside as a mid or outer layer. It's not cut for a women and so it bunches around her hips but otherwise it's perfect.
A vast improvement on fleece vests
April 09, 2010
Ever owned one of those fleece vests that the wind just whips right through? No need to suffer any longer. The Mountain Hardwear Windstopper vest is light but keeps your core warm with a tightly woven fabric, and it has lots of pockets where you need them. My new go-to vest!
Love this Vest
August 21, 2006
Liked this vest so much that I ordered another one for work. I am 6' and slim and the medium fit perfect.
Great Vest
December 10, 2010
Recently purchased this vest and wore it hunting in the snow and wind last week. Very comfortable with great ease of movement. Good protection from the wind. Fits true to size.
Pros: Great design, PerformanceEXCELLENT!!!! Better than my Northface!
April 10, 2006
Much better than the Northface windstopper that I own! It blocks the wind better and keeps my body core temp.better balanced.I like the higher neck too.
Looks and feels great!
September 21, 2005
There is something about a vest that just makes sense, and the Mountain Hardware Windstopper Vest captures it all. First of all, it looks good, so if you're just standing around trying to look cool, you will still be warm on those chilly fall mornings, and when things heat up, you'll still be cool and dry. As an uderlayer, it's a perfect fit with any soft shell, especially the MH Alchemy Jacket, making the whole greater than the sum of its parts come winter. Size runs true, the collar covers the entire neck when utilized, and the fabric is very friendly. I really can't imagine what life would be like without this vest.
Love it!

This vest was a Christmas gift for my husband! It came in great time, especially right around the Christmas rush. He loves it and wears it all the time!

Looks and feels great!
June 12, 2006
Love this vest; looks and feels great, I just ordered another one in a different color. It's just lite enough so you don't overheat inside the house or office when zipped down or use it out side zipped up as a core warmer - I find I don't need to take it off to stay comfortable, has approx the same weight & warmth as a 100-150gm polartec fleece but windproof - also makes a great inner layer & core wind barrier.
Great Core Warmth
February 15, 2010
This item fits slightly loose, which makes it great over a base layer and mid-layer fleece. But it also is fitted enough to go under a shell if needed for rainy weather. I love the high collar, great for keeping the snow out when I'm on the slopes. It dried quickly after the slopes. I only got chilled when I stopped moving! All in all, great versatile piece. Love it! Am going to get another just to make sure I have one as back up.

best out there
November 09, 2006
This is the best vest out there. Windproof and lightweight it's a perfect supplement to a capilene mw longsleeve on summer backcountry overnights when it get breezy on exposed terrain and will keep you warm at dusk/sunrise. It's trim fit is designed for the 33% of U.S.A. that's not overweight, and aids in efficient body heat retention and layering under a trim fitting superlight rain jacket.
The Mountain Hardware Wind Stopper Vest Works Except The Collar
July 29, 2010
I did a ridge walk with my Lab near Lovland Pass wearing my new vest and was pleased with the way it deflected the wind. The collar is high (replacing the drawstring at the neck) and the weight of the vest is perfect for typical summer days in Colorado. I own multiple shells and fleece produced by Mountain Hardware and all the gear runs true to size and delivers on performance. My only complaint, Mountain Hardware dropped the draw string at the collar or neck version of the wind stopper vest. I own one with the drawstring neck and it is great for cold days and skiing. The drawstring is the best means to customize the fit of the collar of fleece. If Mountain Hardware is listening bring back the drawstring collar in the vest and use a thicker material at the top of the neck which does not wear so fast. My beard trashes the collars of the gear I wear.

Awesome
January 06, 2006
Hands down, this is the most effective wind stopping vest on the market. My reason for giving four stars instead of five is because of the sizing issues. I wouldnt even say they are issues the vest is just cut for very slim individuals. People, watch this brand as they are becoming leaders in active sports wear!!!! (And no I do not work for them!)

Best vest on the market.
April 20, 2010
Excellent quality and fit. Light weight and looks good.
Great Vest
April 15, 2011
The other reviews give it 5 stars for all the same reasons. MH quality and attention to detail. The vest is bomber construction, thin (but the material is dense/solid) so it works well under a shell. Warm enough to worn alone. Trim athletic cut fits great, not bulky or boxy as some vests. It is not too long which is nice for layering under a shell and getting to a harness. However, it is not super light at 13oz, nor real compressable, but the trade off is a durable vest. A large fits perfect at 6'1", 180lb.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performancecannot live without
January 04, 2011
this vest is absolutely PERFECT. it's not to bulky and it is extremely warm. it's nice to be able to throw this on without worrying about a jacket. very fashionable as i can dress it up or dress it down. i ordered a small and it was a little shorter than i expected but it is not tight fitting in the least. i will highly recommend this vest to anyone. it's worth every single penny!!! a must have!!!

Great value
November 14, 2005
If you look at other vests, the MHW vest is a great value. You might want to know that the vest has a very trim, athletic cut. My only issue with it is the neck is a bit long.
Awesome vest!
March 18, 2010
I bought this vest for 3 season backpacking for those cold mornings and evenings. This vest is perfect for that...it's warm and blocks ALL wind and doesn't takes up too much space in your pack when it heats up. It's a little pricey but well worth it.
consistent with reviews
April 21, 2009
Bought this based upon reviews it does fit snug which I do like the close fit.
Great vest

Great vest, athletic fit. Length is modern and sits at your waist. Top notch quality you come to expect from Mountain Hardwear
i live in this vest!!
April 27, 2008
light weight & versatile! i wear it all the time with the top down in my wrangler! it's just warm enough for the cool spring nights, but cool enough not to sweat..it's become my outdoor gear of choice..soft, easy to clean. much better fit then my old denali north face fleece.

Great vest, even at this price
November 02, 2009
Though some might look at this as a pricey item, a second look reveals great details and materials, like the Windstopper microfleece. This is no ordinary fleece vest... warmer and windproof, it is a fantastic layering item, and good worn alone also. True to size, made with a form fitted cut that fits well under a jacket. I love this vest

Lightweight Work Vest with Great Pockets
November 09, 2009
A great vest for working in the moderate cold. Warm enough when paired with a long sleeve shirt, and lightweight enough to wear in slightly cold temperatures too. The four pockets work well for holding a cell phone, pocketbook, wallet, light utility tools, work gloves, hat, etc.; things that used to carry mainly in pant pockets. Works just as well for everyday casual.
Great - high quality and very versatile!
January 16, 2010
Comfortable, very windproof, water resistant, and lightweight - what more could I want! Highly recommended...
Fits perfect
January 11, 2008
Very comfortable and athletic fit. Lightweight and looks sharp. Found that it zips into my North Face Varius Guide Jacket perfectly.
Lost my old one, had to have another
November 28, 2009
This is the best performing and looking vest on the market, much better than the ubiquitous NorthFace vests...
Good looking vest
March 05, 2011
Vest looks good enough to wear in the office, not just for outdoors or casual. Goes really well with a white LS shirt. Only exception is maybe the collar is a bit high but in the end, it's not so bad. All seams and zippers are classy and the logo is perfect. Even if you are not a "vest" person, this one can be your first and only vest.
Pros: Great designGreat fit
March 10, 2012
I am on the slender tall side and the medium was just right. Normally The medium is too wide, which reduces the warmth that you will get from the vest. The vest seems to be very sturdy. I used this during a very windy day and the vest was almost completly windpruff. You won't be disappointed with this vest.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useGreat vest
January 05, 2010
I love this vest - great weight. I'm a woman looking for a thin, black vest without a lot of design. This was perfect; however I usually wear men's small (or women's med/lg), but the waste area was tight, so I returned for a men's medium.

Good performance but might be too fitting for some!
May 07, 2006
Great for wearing under a shell because of tight fit
Very nice but sizing problems
November 07, 2005
The sizing was difficult. On Mountain gear jackets a large fits me great, but on their vests, a large is too small and an extra large is too large.
nice vest
October 19, 2005
nice vest....
Best performing piece of clothing
December 04, 2009
I have had this vest for a few years and it's perfect as a piece of clothing with a long sleeve shirt to keep the chill out. I wear mine 5 days a week. I had to get another one to match my attire for the winter season.
Great product, although somewhat expensive.
July 20, 2006
I finally got to try this vest yesterday during a downpour in the San Juan mountains in Colorado. I wore it underneath my three layer North Face gortex parka. As I was decending from the mountains along a creek at 12,000' elevation, a huge thunderstorm developed. I was getting cold and my gortex gear was getting pretty soaked. After adding it underneath my parka I was comfortable for the rest of my hike. I especially like the zippered hand pockets and the extra inside pocket (four pockets total). This vest fits me perfectly and is true to size. Definitely a thumbs up.

One of my favorie layering pieces
January 02, 2008
I've had this vest for a couple of years, I'm 6ft, 178lbs, with a 32" waist - the large fits well. It's an excellent core warmer, and windblocking is great. I just ordered the Tech Jacket to compliment it.
great fitting in the MH tradition
August 15, 2007
fits great, great value, great company.
Reliable and True to Their Reputation
October 03, 2011
Bought the Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Vest prior to going to Alaska. I'm 6'1", 205 # and found the fit to be pretty true for my frame. Wore it while cruising an eagle preserve as an inner layer with a shell on the outside. Kept me warm and toasty. Hiked Mt. Roberts in Juneau with the same MH shell and MH Windstopper Vest and it performed great cutting the wind while keeping me comfortable.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great valueIndispensable item
October 02, 2011
I have had this vest for several years and loved it. I have worn it backpacking in Colorado, biking in TN, flyfishing in Arkansas, adventure racing, as well as to kids football games and even church on Sunday's! It layers well, really stops the wind, looks good and cleans well. Lightweight and takes up little space in a backpack. Very tough piece of clothing, only replacing it because my wife lost it at football game (thanks dear, for an excuse to get a new one)! I consider it an indispensable part of an active, outdoor clothing list.
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceGreat Spring camping vest
March 19, 2010
Great vest for cool spring outings (backpacking, canoeing, camping), fit is perfect, light weight. I also found it to be very effective as a base layer, cutting the wind while in my boat!!
Incredible vest
