Good jacket. Very warm and toasty. Not sure if it is suitable for super technical stuff, as I mainly use it around town and under a shell skiing. Nice deep, warm pockets and good zippers. I am 6'4" and the length is perfect. The fit in the shoulders and armpits is tight, but I've gotten used to it and I think it improves warmth. My only complaint is that the sleaves are about an inch too short. Again, I'm tall so I'm sure that is factor, but I have not had this issue with other MH products. Overall, solid choice.Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Great value, looks cool, Cons: sleaves too short, tight in the armpits
Great Down Sweater for the Slim
April 02, 2011
This is an excellent down sweater for those with a slimmer physique. I am 6' tall and 165lbs, and the medium fits me very well. It's nice to find a down sweater that is sized for those that are a little more lean. The body and sleeves have nice length to them, without having the cut through the body be too big and boxy. As usual, the quality from Mountain Hardwear is top notch and the jacket packs down into it's own stuff sack, practically disappearing it is so compressible. Not a single complaint about this jacket....excellent quality, very compressible while still retaining good warmth, and most of all, sized nicely for those of us who are a little slimmer.
Love this jacket
December 19, 2012
This jacket is warm and fits great! It is the perfect jacket to wear around town by itself, or as an underlayer if it gets really cold. I will recommend this brand and Alltrec to all my friends.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value
excellent lightweight warmth
January 27, 2011
very light-weight, great fit and warmer than expected. I would only change 2 things (both of which would add weight): 1. add zippers to the hand warmer pockets 2. use a goretex-type waterproofing laminate on the exterior even without those changes, it's still an excellent light layer, easily packable and surprisingly warm.

Looked at a lot of companies Patagonia and north face and found mountain hardware had a better fit and finish. I am 6'5" and was worried about sleeve length and found that the xxl fit perfectly .
Good Jacket - Awkward Fit
November 08, 2010
I've had this jacket for about a year now, and while I like the design and overall comfort, I must say that the jacket is a bit tight in the armpit area and across the back (if arms are fully forward, out in front of me). I'm 6'0", 168 lbs (male). I originally ordered a medium but exchanged it for a large. The medium had a better overall fit, if it weren't for the armpits. That's the only caveat. Aside from that, the jacket has kept me quite warm - I've been able to wear it with just a t-shirt underneath in sub-freezing weather. I usually throw a light shell over it. MH: I read other review about this awkward fit - I would happily trade in my large for a medium if this issue were resolved :) (or if you were willing to trim the torso area! I'm considering taking the jacket in to a tailor, but I'm nervous about tearing up such a nice jacket!)

Excellent warmth to weight ratio
Form fitting and very functional
December 11, 2010
I bought this jacket planning to use it as an outer-layer for chilly days and mid-layer for very cold days. It turns out that it is very warm, but breathes so well that it is exceptionally comfortable in 25 to 60 degree temps. It works great as an outlayer over a thick base layer skiing in 25+ temps or as a midlayer under a shell for snowy or super windy conditions. It doesn't appear to have much, if any, wetness protection, so it probably wouldn't like wet snow or rain. My only gripe is that the front hand-warm pockets don't zip up, which means snow pockets if take a digger on the snow. As for fit, I am 6'2", 185lbs and it was very true-to-size and more form-fitting than comparable coats that I tried on. It's super light such that it barely feels like you're wearing a jacket. I haven't had it long enough to comment on how it wears or how the build quality holds up to abuse.Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: no handwarmer pocket zippers
March 25, 2011
This is the first down jacket I've owned (except for the puffy michelin man style when I was a kid) and I absolutely love it. It's exceptionally warm, packable, cuts the wind well, and super light. I've shoveled snow with nothing on but a t-shirt underneath and been completely warm. My friend has a MH Zonal but I opted for the Nitrous for the added warmth and it was a good choice. I'm about 5'10" 170# and ordered the large based on other MH purchases. The torso fits perfectly although the sleeves are a bit long ... it may just be that I have short arms ... who knows. The only negative (for me) is that the external hand pockets are not zippered but not a huge deal based on the other great features and quality.

I ordered the Men's Nitrous Jacket in Large and it was way too small. i wear a large in all other brands.
January 31, 2012
The jacket fit is a bit small around the shoulders. other than that, it was very warm and very very light. i am not sure going one size up would make any difference, cause other than the shoulders the size seems true so its probably the cut.

Good choice for a trendy youngster or for someone looking for a warm layer, not the best jacket to move around town. This jacket is not good as a shell.
November 04, 2011
I bought one of these jackets earlier, loved it soo much that I had to get one in a different color. The price is the best I can find on line or at any brick and mortar building. This fits great as an underlayer jacket for wind breaker as well. Highly recommend this!
Great Jacket - tight fit
December 18, 2011
Another great product from MH. Very warm. One word of warning - the fit across the shoulders and the armpits is very tight. If you have broad shoulders, this is probably not the coat for you. Otherwise, superb.
February 09, 2011
I researched these down sweater jackets - tried Marmot but did not like the fit. This coat fits a little snugger and does not billow out in the front. Wish it had a hood. Great light wieght and is very warm.
Best Purchase Ever

For an 800 fill down jacket this is perfect in terms of space. Very thin, yet very warm. Perfect for many conditions. Excellent! I don't like just one thing- periodically small feathers go out of the jacket!
Great Spring/Fall Jacket
August 26, 2011
I just got this jacket the other day and absolutely love it already. Fall can't come soon enough. This jacket is going to be perfect for the trail in mid Oct. I was really surprised how well a large fits as I'm 6'0'', about 175lbs. Usually I would need an XL for the sleeve length, but then it's too bulky in the chest. Very happy with a large. You can't go wrong with this jacket.Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great value
Mountain Hardwear Men's Nitrous Jacket
July 07, 2009
I investigated several different down sweater jackets. I really like the fit of this jacket. I'm 5'9/170 and the tapered fit of the large worked well. I purchased the Patagonia Men's Down Sweater in a large but it was very bulky in the belly area and the medium was to small so was returned. I have worn it in the low 40's as a slip on and it works great, even a little warm. The con's are no zippers on the pockets and the cuffs on the sleeve are a little loose and could use elastic or some other material to tighten it up a bit. If not for these last two items I would give it 5 stars, it's a great(very) light weight coat and would recommend.
Warm and light
November 02, 2011
Used the Nitrous Jacket on a week steelhead fishing trip and was very pleased with it. It is so light you hardly know you have it on, and it is very warm. I used it as a layer underneath a wind/waterproof fishing jacket and over a capaline long-sleeve tshirt and it added a lot of warmth without any bulk. Morning temperatures were in the mid 20s and I was toasty. I am 6'2" tall, 225 pounds with a bit of a belly and the fit was form fitting, but not tight. I would say it is smaller than a normal XL size in the torso but the arm length and jacket length were just fine. Liked it so much I'm thinking about getting one for a family member for Christmas.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value
Warm & light
January 22, 2011
I purchased this for my son, so here's his 2 cents worth. The Nitrous jacket is featherweight and very warm, as are all the "down sweater" type jackets. It's not too shiny as some are, and he likes the look of the narrow down channels. The sleeves are long so your wrists don't poke out when you extend your arms. However, the cut is slightly small, especially under the arms. His other quibble is the lack of zips on the pockets. But the quality is excellent so it's a keeper.
Men's Hardware Perfectly Constructed
March 09, 2012
I bought the men's Nitrous in large initially. It absolutely was tight in the upper back and the sleeves were a little short with arms crossed. I am 5' 11.5" and 185 lbs. I wear a large dress shirt with 35" arms and 16.5". I ended up purchasing an XL which fits just right in the back and sleeves, however it is roomier in the chest/waist area. The neck is still awesome, but the cuffs now have a space big enough for air. Since there is no in between XL is the better choice for someone with a similar build. As for the warmth, I took other reviews to heart and went out in 19 degree F with a serious wind. I only had a t-shirt on underneath and I was warm. I get cold often and it definitely kept me warm. No air escaped from the neck and very little around cuffs, but I am going to sew the cuff tighter. Construction is perfect. MH does it right with design and construction. I love this jacket and since it is slightly larger I can layer anyway I want to. It fits perfectly beneath my Patagonia super alpine technical shell. No binding. As for the durability, I have read only one review that questioned it's durability so I'll see as I use it. If you want a light, well constructed down jacket to layer under a shell or layer beneath it and wear it as an outer garment, the Nitrous beats Patagonia and Marmot hands down for style and versatility (I tried both before the MH).Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, layers any way you want to

For an 800 fill down jacket this is perfect in terms of space. Very thin, yet very warm. Perfect for many conditions. I do a lot of mountaineering and this is perfect for layering under shells and even under 300 weight fleeces. Excellent jacket!
