Men's Winter Wander Pants 4.7 5 49 49
Winter Wander is King I bought these pants for snowshoeing and also got a pair for my wife. I read an endless amount of reviews for soft shell pants and decided on these. They are GREAT!! I love how comfortable they are. The fabric is amazing for comfort and movement. I love having the ability to wear a belt with them. I wore a mid-weight base layer under them and was plenty comfortable. They also do a great job stopping the wind. I am very pleased with the fit and quality of these pants. I am 5'8 and 175lbs. I have roughly a 33w and 30 inseam. I originally bought the medium short. They were snug. I returned them and ordered the large short. Glad i did. They fit perfect and are roomy. Altrec was also very easy to work with to do the return and repurchase. January 21, 2012
I made a study of hiking pants and came to the conclusion that these were the best on the market. After my purchase, my expectations were met and exceeded. January 12, 2012
good groduct Excellent features and workmanship - only caveats are that at 5'7" and 145 lbs, I normally take a 31" waist in jeans which puts me right in between the men's small and medium. There is simply too much material in the medium (I'd say a true 33") and while the small is a bit of a stretch (call it a true 30") it is manageable for me. The other very minor complaint is the velcro internal waist button - I'd prefer a true button or a hook/eye since it is a relatively high wear area and I'm not sure how long the velcro will last. Overall though, very comfortable, good cold/wet performance and so highly recommended as a travel and sport pant. December 6, 2011
Get these now! Excellent trousers all around. I'm 6'1" 225 lbs and the large long fit great. Just the right amount of stretch anywhere you would need it. Very comfortable material, drapes well and generally look great. I was hesitant at the price but you get what you pay for and these are worth getting especially if they are on sale. November 25, 2011
Great pants These are the best pants I've ever owned. Breathable and comfortable. Strong material. I am 5'10 and 155lbs and the medium short fits me very well with a little slack in the waist, which is fine I just wear a belt. These pants are wind resistant. I have not been able to wear in cold conditions yet but I believe they will be warm. I recommend these pants. October 12, 2011
excellent 3 season pant bought these a year ago in black...skiid, snowshoed all winter in upstate NY with them, as well as wearing some other soft shell pants from OR and Mountain Hardwear....The Winter Wanders are as comfortable, soft, durable and warm as any I own....a minimum of bells and whistles (zipper ankles would be nice and zip front pockets) but the drawcord hems stow out of the way, and the back zip pockets and side cargo pocket function well...in short...when I saw Altrec have them on sale again....I couldn't resist a 2nd pair in gray......great bang for the buck....highly recommended August 6, 2011
Great for Winter as well as spring and fall Great Pants! Durable, comfortable, and able to withstand everything I made them endure - mud, rain, sliding on the snow. Do not think that they are useful only in winter : they are good for spring and fall activities as well, because of their great breathability. This makes them incredibly versatile. For very cold winter days, I put a merino lining under to keep warm. Liked them so much, bought a second pair. June 29, 2011
Awsome Pants - bought two pairs I love it when you get your hands on a good product, and I love these pants. These pants are very comfortable and fit as expected. These are made for the winter, but I have actually hiked in these during some 90 degree days and they breathed well. I coach hockey and I primarily wear these to practices and games to keep me warm in the rink. I plan on wearing these skiing as well, but unfortunatly I only get that chance once a year. June 20, 2011
Not bad pant, It's very suitable for the winter as it is windproof. It's better than I thought, In last winter, I often hiked on the snow with it. It is so durable and has a high quality. Moreover, it's not heavy, I feel very comfy and I am satisfied with it. May 2, 2011
excellent service Thank you for personally checking the waist size of the all- weather pant. The fit is true to size. The color selection and available stock made it an easy chioce. MountainGear makes a good product. April 25, 2011
durable and comfortable pants These soft shell pants are awesome! I wear them at least 2-3 times a week since they're super soft, very durable, and have a 4 way stretch. In my opinion, these pants are much classier/better looking than a pair of sweats and are very breathable. What more could you ask for? April 18, 2011
Awesome Winter Pants I bought these pants for winter hiking and it worked perfectly. It stretches well, comfortable, and very wide movability. However, the size runs little bit small and the length of pants slightly short compared to other mountain hardware pants. Overall, another great product from montain hardware. Strongly recommended. March 16, 2011
I'm glad I bought this pants couple of weeks ago, it has superb quality. It streches well without uncomfort feeling. This is my second pair, I def recommend for people who spent time outdoors. March 10, 2011
Quality Pants These pants work very well as a heavier softshell for colder climates. Quite happy with them. Very comfortable, good range of motion, and good insulating qualities. Recommended. March 9, 2011
Whoa, shoulda bought every color Fit great, super comfortable and fantastic move-ability with or without a baselayer. I've used them down to -12F with a light baselayer. Repels water and snow very well. Comfortable with a belt or backpack. March 6, 2011
I just bought these pants and they are great. They fit great, are comfortable to wear while hiking (at least short hikes like I do), and they are very light yet I think they will hold up well. Glad I didn't pay $100+ for some other pants. My wife recommended them because she has a pair. She's a dog trainer and uses them frequently in the rain and she loves them. March 6, 2011
Comfy Pants! Originally bought these pants for winter hiking, but instead I've used them three times so far for snowshoeing, and they have been comfortable enough even without long johns, grant you it has not been super cold the times I've been up there, low 30's to low 40's. March 3, 2011
Great Cold Weather Pant Pros: The pants are comfortable and easy to layer under and over. They shed snow and dont hold much moisture. They breathe very well. They block wind fairly well. The cords at the cuff do a great job of blocking out snow. Cons: The waist runs a little small compared to the rest of the pant. The small tab of velcro near the snap is annoying and seemingly ineffective. They are not wind proof. I've used these for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. They handle perspiration well and I haven't needed gaitors yet. Even when I was working up a sweat the snow didn't stick to the fabric and my lower legs stayed dry. I can't speak to durability yet, but after a month my first pair shows no wear. After two weeks I bought another pair just in case. March 2, 2011
Great pants I purchased these for snowshoeing and winter hiking and absolutely love them. They are very well thought out and work well for high energy winter activities. January 26, 2011
Amazingly comfortable These pants are very comfortable. I haven't put them through the ringer to test durability, but they seem to be fine. I hope they serve me well on my upcoming trip to the smokies, and I'm sure they will. January 16, 2011
Great Pants! I've been looking a long time for the (nearly) perfect pair of soft shell pants for winter travel and climbing. I have a lot of respect for the Mountain Hardwear brand: I have their sub-zero parka and some other assorted great stuff. It's all well made and very functional. I just received these about a week ago and haven't given them a full initiation, but from close inspection they're going to work well. They're stretchy and very comfortable, and although they are close fitting they aren't clingy like tights. They're much more like technical ski pants without the insulation. They look good enough to wear on urban walks and comfortable enough to wear on the plane. With a mid-weight base layer underneath they should afford solid protection from wind and cold on the trail or on the mountain. I'm 5'9" and 160 lbs, so I ordered a medium. The waist and length are perfect. I really like the drawcord at the cuffs to snug them onto my boots, and the zippered back pockets are nicely designed. I definitely would recommend these for anyone looking for cool or cold weather outdoor activities. I'll buy more when these wear out. Keep making them, MH! January 13, 2011
THE Best Softshell Pants These Mountain Hardwear Winter Wander pants are extraordinary! I've worn these to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro with bitter cold and heavy winds with only polypropylene layer underneath - while everyone else was bundled with Goretex and many more layers. I can't say enough good things about them - they're so good, I just bought 2 more pairs. January 9, 2011
Nice Pants Have enjoyed winter hiking in these pants alot. They are very comfortable and movement is easy, thoroughly satisfied. January 3, 2011
Not a true winter pant This is the first Mountain Hardware product that I have been disappointed in. This pant is not suitable for winter use as its name implies. I wore these pants on a Nordic ski session in our local mountains. The temperature was in the low to mid twenties and there was a bit of wind. There was very little thermal effect from these pants and they barely turned the wind away. The only thing that kept me from returning immediately to the car was the fact that I was exercising vigorously. I am curious about the many positive reviews on this pant. Either the users are wearing long johns under the pants or they are not getting into true winter conditions. I am going to return these and purchase a true winter pant. December 30, 2010
Men's Winter Wander Pants These pants look sharp and are durable. I've taken them on two loops through Old Rag, which requires some minor scrambling and noticed zero wear, even after some sliding on rocks. I have a 35" waist and the fit there is perfect; however, the length, in a 'regular', is less than the advertised 32". My measurement is 31". December 20, 2010
Mens Winter Wander pants These pants are very comfortable and very warm. I like them so much that I am going to order another pair of them. I would highly recommend these to others to purchase. These are just as great as every other Mountain Hardware product I have purchased. December 5, 2010
Best all-round winter pant the winter wanderers are my goto pants for anytime between November and March living in the NC foothills. they are warm and breathable enough for hiking/biking plus fashionable enough to wear around town. stretch fabric and fleece pockets make them very comfortable. great purchase! December 3, 2010
Men's Winter Wander Pants A long-time Patagonia wearer, this is the first time I purchase this brand. I saw the images, and liked its simplicity and minimal design. The item is well made and sturdy. Although they feel a bit baggy, they actually do not look it. Haven't hiked any mountains yet, but the pants feel great strolling in the park at 30+ degrees. November 29, 2010
That's comfortable I really love this, It's very comfortable, warm and good ventilation for when sweat. October 26, 2010
One of the Best softshell pants for daily use I first discovered these pants years ago at a local store and now have a pair in three colors, although they are all regular inseam. MH just released them in short, so even though the pants look like the day I bought them I decided to replace my existing 3 pairs with three of the same in short pant length. What can I say about these pants. They are rugged, highly water and wind resistant. I have never gotten wet in them in the 3 plus years I have owned them. The also look like dress pants. So in the winter I usually wear them to work and no one has ever given me hard time about them not being dress pants. As I said before, these pants look like new after three years, have handwarmer pockets, a nice side pocket that snaps closed and ties on the bottom of the pant legs to keep out debris. All in all the only complaint I have is that MH doesn't make the same pants without the lining in them. October 20, 2010
Life Savers I purchased these pants at the last minute prior to leaving for a 40 mile hike on the AT after hearing that there was a good bit of snow on the ground (mid March in high elevations of Virigina). These ended up being a life saver. We got into knee deep snow towards the end of day 1 and never got out of it. The pants did a great job of keeping me dry and since we couldn't get a steady fire going, anything else would have been a disaster. I'd highly recommend these pants for any type of snow encounters. October 13, 2010
Great for winter hiking It's not cold enough for a test but I think these will be perfect for cold-weather hiking. I've been looking for non-cotton non-lightweight pants for a long time and am happy I found these. I have a 36 waste and 34 inseam and they fit perfectly. October 9, 2010
Nice Pants Recently received these pants and happy with them so far. Fit is good - I'm a 29W 30L in a pair of Levis and the small with short inseam fit well, just a tad loose in the waist and nothing that can't be fixed with a belt. I found plenty of room to have a base layer underneath. The material is somewhat rough compared to some other soft-shells I've tried, like the Patagonia Simple Guides pants, but it seems quite durable and wind-resistant. They're still comfortable though, with plenty of stretch. As others have said, the front pockets could use zippers and the rear pockets are large but have small openings. Not a deal killer for this price. I can't comment on the water-resistance, although the lack of a DWR makes me wonder about that. Good pants, especially if you can get them on sale. March 30, 2010
Highly versatile pants! I originally purchased these in an XL Long as I wear a 34 length. The waist was perfect (I wear a 38), however, the Long was at least a 36 length due to the cut of the pant. I reorded the XL Regular and they are perfect. Save some packing space and take 2 pairs of these on your next trip and they will be the only pants you will need! February 17, 2010
Great Multi-purpose pants I bought these for Winter biking and for that they are nearly perfect in temps from 50's down into the teens. I love the fit and the stretch. I am a 36/37W and 33 inseam and a LG fit perfectly. I like them so much that they have become my favorite casual pants. I even wore them for a long weekend of casual city fun in NYC ... in black of course. As others have said, zippers on the side pockets would make them near perfect. I've become an evangelist for these pants. February 5, 2010
Great buy! The merchandise is great and the shipping is prompt. Will buy again. January 19, 2010
Good value! The pants are well made and given the price it's a good buy. January 19, 2010
Great Winter Weather Hiking Pants I use these pants to walk my dogs everyday in the cold or wet. They feel great , fit great, and are nice looking. Neat cargo pocket is useful for carrying a cellphone, etc. I am size 34x34. I got the Large, Tall size. They are roomy at the waist but the length is perfect. If it is below 25 degrees outside, I wear thin long johns as a base layer. January 17, 2010
Love these pants! I where these when I'm winter hiking or snow shoeing. They are water repellent and that's a big plus. If it's real cold I wear a pair of long underweare underneath for warmth. January 13, 2010
Good product I really think this is a quality product. They are a little 'skinny' at the bottom of the pant legs for me, but that's just a matter of taste. The product seems to be durable and well made. January 6, 2010
Great pants These are super pants for hiking climbing or casual wear. They are extremely tough yet flexible. Good wind/water resistance. By far my favorite MH pant besides the $200 cohesion. December 29, 2009
Very durable, very comfortable winter hiking pant. All in all these are great winter hiking pants! The sizing seems to be a little big in the waist. I wear a 34 waist in everything and these are big yet the inseam is just right. They don't have a lining but are plenty warm with light polypro underneath. I would have given them 5 stars if I didn't have to wear a belt! December 27, 2009
real comfortable pant these pants fit roomy they shed snow well, keep you nice and warm, very durable. big difference in size between med and large December 22, 2009
Top Shelf pants for all around abuse! Great set of pants. Built to take it and shrug it off while remaining comfortable and mobile. Comfy enough to wear all day while shooting a movie in any season. July 9, 2009
Great Winter Pants These winter pants are true to size with a very nice fit. They are also made of a material which does repel water and moisture. However, if you want to wear in cold weather, you must wear a thermal type underwear for added warmth. Great pants. May 18, 2009
Tough material for soft shell pants I wore these pants on a winter hike with gaters. I tore up the gaters more than a half dozen times There were no rips in the pants, which I snagged more than once. I wore these pants to work everytime it snowed, because the snow did not stick to them. I like these pants enough to buy a second or third pair. April 1, 2009
$ These pants are superb. Very tough, stretchy and warm. I wear them anytime I'm out in cold weather. I would give them 5 stars easy but I could use more pockets for sure (we always need more pockets). I took a fall last year in these pants and tore my legs up pretty good - not a scratch on the pants. Bottom line - if your out in the woods in the winter these are a good purchase. September 17, 2008
Great Pants for hiking or casual wear I recently got a pair of the Winter Wander Pants and I love them. They have plently of stretch and have a nice feel. The front pockets are fleece lined which is a nice touch. There are even draw cords on the ankles so you can cinch them. They are warm enough for technical wear and stylish enough for casual wear. February 8, 2006
Good value softshell pants let down by pockets These are the matching pants to the offwidth jacket and pullover. They are made of the toughest and most water resistant woven soft shell fabric that I have used, far better than dryskin. MH have put a lot of effort into the design with S shaped side seams, but unfortunately the front pockets have no closures and gape open, and are lined with a brushed fabric that catches on any gobis on your fingers. If they changed the lining and put zips on the pockets these would be a 5 star value. November 4, 2005
