Great Jacket!
Fits perfectly, plenty of room for movement, and really does block the wind effectively. I have long arms, but the sleeves still have enough length to pull my hands in if I'm not wearing gloves. My second M.H. jacket and I already love it as much as my old one. Great price and fast shipping too!

great jacket
This is the 2nd time I have purchased this jacket. The first jacket was an XL which I bought 3 years ago. Since then I have lost a few pounds and the jacket was a bit too big so I bought a Large. I have previously owned North Face Denali which is like swiss cheese compared to this jacket. This MH jacket is soft yet blocks out the wind. A+

Practically perfect in every way...
This is my second Mountain Hardwear Tech Jacket, the first I purchased in 1998 or thereabouts. I was overjoyed to find that the jacket is still available. The styling is smart, the fit comfortable and lightweight, and it keeps me warm when the temp is above freezing.

My favorite jacket
I bought my first "Windstopper" jacket probably 15 years ago when it was actually made in the USA for $250. Get the same jacket now for $185! Now on my 3rd one...lost one recently. My favorite jacket by far! About all I need during most of the winter here in North Georgia. I am 160# and 5'7" and wear a large. First one is black. Lost one was black/gray. Most recent one is Olive/black. Highly recommend the jacket and service from Altrec was great.

Great jacket
I'm a big (read: fat) dude, and when I read some skinny/tall people saying the XXL size wasn't too snug, I was a little worried about this jacket fitting properly. However, it fits great. The rattler color also looks exactly like it's pictured, for the record.

boston in the fall
i recently moved to boston and realized soon after that the seasons change much more quickly than i'm accustomed. with lows reaching the 20s in october, i decided that it was time for a little something extra, without pulling out my winter coat. i bought this jacket, got it in the mail within a week or so, and haven't taken it off since. it really is perfect. i am 6'1" 200lbs, with at least a 6' arm span, and this jacket fits perfectly. you can't go wrong with this one.

I returned it
I think it looks like a great jacket and the reviews on it have been amazing but when I saw the color, I wasn't too thrilled. I ordered the Rattler color and when I saw it, I realized my husband wouldn't like it. I may order another one in another color because he could really use a light, windproof jacket. The photo on the web definitely makes it look nicer than it is in person...sorry!!!

My only complaint is the giant logo on the front
I bought this jacket for a trip to Buenos Aires, AR and later to Ecuador. I'm in Buenos Aires right now, where it's currently winter, with temps in the 40 to 60 degree range. I've been totally comfortable with only an undershirt and button down (so I don't look like a slob while I make my way through the city) underneath. If I get hot after walking for a while, I unzip the front and cool down quickly. When I get chilly again, I zip it back up and am warm right away. There have been some windy days and it's worked like a charm at deflecting the gusts. It will be interesting to see how breathable it feels in the warmer climate of Ecuador, but so far I am thrilled except for the conspicuous yellow logo on the front (bigger than it needs to be in my opinion) not great when you're trying not to stick out as a tourist. But well worth it. I also love all the pockets. The inside pocket is the perfect place for the key to the house where I'm staying (and big enough to hold much more than that).

Great jacket for backpacking
I highly recommend this jacket. The Mountain Hardware has made a great windproof but breathable product. This jacket worked well as a middle layer on cold nights by the camp fire During the early morning or evening it was great without all the layering. Amazing that a light jacket can do all that. The color and style look great.

Best of its kind - Second to none !
This is actually my second jacket and my ever first order made from Altrec. I used this jacket in cold areas such as Northern India, rainy days in Vietnam and Manila where the night temperature could drop quite drastically. I was always protected with sufficient warmth, even though these places are renowned for hotter climate, this jacket really breathes and it does not give me too much discomfort when I wore them in the day time. Moreover, I am a very practical and functional person that love to carry various small handheld gadgets, the pockets support me with sufficient space with adequate security, allow me to move freely with ease. Comfort level was not compromise for the added WINDSTOPPER® membrane underneath, I do not feel a burden to put on and colours are really attractive and eye -catchy too. I owned a Rattler model and now I add on with a Red/Black model in my wardrobe. May consider a Blue one in future as I love to switch colours whenever I travel. To add on to my whole Mountain Hardware arsenal , I have existing 3 units of MHW windstopper vests (Charcoal, blue and black), similar to the jacket (without sleeves), and they work exactly the same. Looks pretty smart and functional too. Now, I carry a MHW vest and a jacket wherever I travel, not too heavy and a choice to switch wardrobe "ON-THE-GO".

Awesome jacket
I bought the Tech Jacket earlier in the spring and have used it both backpacking along the northern rugged sections of the Bruce Trail and as a casual, knock-around piece. It has functioned superbly in both capacities. I appreciate the excellent breathability enhanced by the extra-long pit-zips when working it up long climbs on the trail but it is still plenty warm setting up camp and sitting around the fire in the evening. I also appreciate the bit of extra length compared to many of the MH offerings I have (such as the Syncro Jacket, another outstanding product). I highly recommend this jacket for both out in the bush and bopping around town on a cool day.

Great Jacket
The jacket looks as good as it performs. I opted for the XXL due to sleeve length; I am 6'3", 215 lbs(long arms). The body is not too loose. I can easily adjust the waist drawstrings to hold in the heat. It works well on its own or as a layering piece. I use it under my MH Typhoon Jacket which really works out well when its coming down. I like the core venting also, especially when really active outside. The breathability of the tech jacket is very good.

Versatile jacket suitable for hiking, biking and even casual use
This is my second Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Tech Jacket. I have found it ideal for hiking due to its low bulk and weight but also an exellent choice for casual wear, particularly in the relatively conservative all black or black/dark green colors. It is easy to add baselayers of varying bulk. That is why I size up. I have a 41" chest but opted for the large instead of a closer fitting medium. I have found the jacket to be particularly suited for mountain biking and even road biking in mid twenty degee windy conditions. It blocks the wind effectively and keeps me warm much better than some of the close fitting cycling speciality jackets. This jacket is an excellent choice for cold and windy weather when keeping warm is so important during extended aerobic activity. It also breathes well and the pit zips add even more functionality to reducing the liklihood of overheating.

Great All Around Jacket
This jacket is perfect for the Middle Atlantic winters, which average in the low 40's. It stops wind, and is very light. I have worn it under a shell in wet weather. The fit is perfect too. I am 5'9, 180 lbs and wear a large.

Great product!
The jacket is fantastic. Sizing was an issue. I read through all the reviews to help me on sizing. I am 5'9" and 170lbs. Basically stuck between a med. and a large. The med. would have been fine if only wearing light base layers underneath and opening the zippers under the shoulders to give full reach. I got the Lg. though. Shoulders and chest fit good and my reach with the jacket is fine. Like all other reviews, I do have plenty of room in the stomach area. I have room to wear a hooded sweatshirt under and we're good to go. I like this jacket!

Great Jacket
Bought this to replace a TNF Denali that I was tired of being plenty warm in until a light breeze came up. Pros - - Finally, a fleece I can wear and not fear a breeze! - bombproof - have boarded, hiked, played football in, put it thru the ringer & it still looks & performs great - love the interior pocket - much more packable than the Denali - comfy, altho the fit isn't perfect - the sleeves are a lil long on the xl for me (6'2, 200), but the shoulders are perfect Cons- - not as comfortable as the Denali - just has to do w/ the GoreWindstopper, but just a observation from having worn t-shirts under each - alpine hand pockets - its not really billed as a climbing jacket, so why must we make the hand pockets such? - like the cuffs on the denali better - these are more like a sweatshirt style in the thickness & they are quite sticky to any sort of dust, dirt, etc that you might come in contact with - just an annoyance on the part of your jacket that you use to come in close contact with everything - why not dual zippers for the pit zips? when they are zipped, u have a string hanging from the middle of your underarm, just an annoyance Minor qualms for the greatness of being able to go thru even the stiffest breeze without a hardshell, don't hesitate, it is better than the Denali, just wish you could combine a few things from each!

Nice product
So far this jacket is terrific. I've used it for walks w/the dog in the woods and at sport events. Performs well. I have not tested it in the super cold weather yet, but I suspect it will earn the 5th star. FYI, even though this is a MHW product, it fits in perfectly into the zip in liner of my North Face Mountain Light jacket. What a combo!

Excelled on a Sierra Backpacking Trip
This jacket was purchased specifically for a 10 night backpacking trip in Yosemite, and I'm really happy I brought it. I am 6'0", 185 lbs. and the large fit great. Enough room to comfortably add insulating layers- which are needed below 50 degrees. The Windstopper fabric kept the wind out, and the drawstring at the waist kept the warm in. I like the pockets where they are because they are accessible while wearing a backpacking backpack with a waist belt. Great quality and high durability as expected from Mountain Hardware.

I am a believer
I must admit I was skeptical when I read the reviews, how could a jacket so light weight be so warm. Well I am a believer after wearing this jacket with only a poly T-shirt in 38 degree weather with 25 to 30 mph wind gusts. I am a 56 year old runner lucky enough to have survived 4 heart attacks, on all kinds of meds and hate being cold. I purchased a large concerned about size since I am 6ft and 178lbs and usually wear Med-Tall items, it fits great. I will be honest, wasn't concerned about pockets, or how many. I am very impressed and want to express my thanks to Mountain Hardwear for producing such an outstanding jacket.

Fantastic Jacket
I have a number of fleeces but was always wearing something over them to stop the wind. The Windstopper fleece does that in spades. I use it as an around town jacket and it is the first thing on after I pull off my wetsuit after surfing. My wife gave it to me for Christmas and as she bought it at a full price venue I'm sure she paid the full price. Two weeks after I got it, it was stolen out of my car when I left the car with valet parking. I had no proof so couldn't do much about it. Anyway I really wanted a replacement and being able to buy it at Altrec with a nice discount, eased the pain.

Awesome Jacket
This has become my wear anytime jacket - skiing, at home, out on the town. It's very comfortable and roomy enough to layer without feeling tight. I went skiing last weekend with temp in the low 30's and high winds. The jacket blocked the wind as advertised and kept me warm with just a shell over the MHW jacket. It seems to breath well...I wasn't overheating after a hard ski run. The pit zip is a must have feature. The jacket was alittle stiff at first but with one wash, it now so comfortable and broken in. This is definetly a must have fleece. I like this jacket so much, I'm planning on buying the matching pants as well.

It has pocket space and is totally windproof. I been comfortable from 20 to 65 degrees using only this coat and a single shirt under it. Buy it on sale and you have a real bargain! this is a wonderful jacket
I love this jacket. I am pretty sure I would not have paid the $184.95 for it, but if you are patient you can get a great deal on this jacket as I did. The Windstopper fabric is great. I now have two jackets with Windstopper and they do just what they claim. This jacket is great as an outer layer in temperatures down to about 40 degrees F then you might want to consider either a shell or warmer layers underneath. It does fit a little snug by design so depending on your build, a shell might be the best option. I have worn mine almost constantly since I got it in early December in our unpredictable Ohio winter. I wear i out to eat shopping, hiking and even skiing. I don't think I would recommend it for running or cycling since I think it would be too warm for high-energy activities, but hiking etc it's great for. Also, I find it to be as soft and comfortable as any fleece jacket I have ever owned. Of course, as others have said, it's not a thick fleece jacket so if that's what you are looking for, this isn't that. All-in-all, a great jacket, but maybe a little pricey at retail price.

Very nice jacket!
I was looking for a jacket that I could wear to the office, and the MH WindStopper did not disappoint. I am 6'0", 175 lbs., so I ordered the large. When I first tried it on it seemed too snug, as some of the reviewers have pointed out, especially when wearing a sweater underneath. I found that when wearing a sweater, unzipping the armpits makes it perfectly comfortable. I also tried the XL, but that was just too big. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Excellent jacket and blocks the wind!
Bought this to hike and fish in this Fall and Winter. Had the opportunity for this latter this week after a nice cold front came through and it did exactly as advertised. Kept me warm even with a stiff breeze blowing.

Great jacket
I am very pleased with the purchase of the Windstopper jacket. It is warmer than the weight and thickness of the jacket would lead on. Great protection from the wind too. I generally like things to be more fitted; it was a toss up between the medium and the large. I chose the large and it fits perfect, just enough room to layer underneath, but not too bulky with just a t-shirt.

Essential Gear For World Travel
Getting ready for my second trip to Trans-Himalayas in China via self-supported mtn. bike touring, and i knew this was one item going with me. Travel weight is a big consideration, so i have to take only what will get me thru a myriad of conditions/elevation (plus some down, and merino wool base layers). Customer service did a stellar job getting me the right size after switching- at the same great price i initially bought it. Kudos!

My favorite piece of equipment
I've worn it skiing as an outer layer when it's warm, I've climbed Rainier and the Alps with it, and I've worn it out for beers. The fit is snug, but still allows good movement. It breaths wicked well, and it repels a drizzle. Well worth the price

Best overall light jacket I've ever owned
I like this jack so much I bought a second one when my dog destroyed my first. Perfect for moderate cold temperatures. Great functionality and fit. Jacket does fit slightly snug, so don't think it will be big enough to layer underneath unless you order a size up.

Incredible Jacket! Incredible Company!
I ordered this on a Thursday when it was on sale for an incredible low price (lowest anywhere). I got the free shipping on the jacket and I was told that it would ship in 7-12 days. This was fine with me and I was surprised when it came in the mail the following tuesday, way ahead of schedule. My order was quickly processed as well by Altrec. I definitely would recommend this company to anyone. Now for the jacket. This jacket is incredible. It looks and feels superb. The quality of build is superior to anything I have bought before. I bought a large and it fit me very well, I'm 6'3, 165lbs. I would recommend this jacket to anyone. Just the other day for 4th of July fireworks, it was very windy and chilly unfortunately, winds were about 70mph so fireworks were postponed, but I never felt the breeze or cold in this jacket. Awesome product, will be buying more from Altrec and Mountain Hardwear.

Great outdoor, cover all bases jacket.
In milder temps,it vents well. Colder temps it blocks wind and keeps you warm. In snow it keeps you dry and warm. What else do you want?

the best fit and performance
I am ordering my 2nd Windstopper (my original is 7 years old and still giving great service)...I have several different windbloc fleece jackets that I use x-country skiing and hiking in the Catskill Mts. of upstate NY, fall, winter, and spring...the Mt. Hardwear Windstopper is unparalleled in comfort and performance in temps well below freezing...with polypro layers underneath, it's almost bombproof...highly recommended...and on sale from Altrec...you can't miss!...Sizing is relaxed fit, comfortable, and true...an XL is an XL...

Very nice
The jacket fit is snug but not too snug (I am wearing a large and I am 5'9" with a 44" chest). The jacket alone is good to upper 30's. I have other windblock 200 weight fleece which is a bit warmer but not as light as this jacket. I have a NF Apex Bionic jacket and this is much much better.

Swiss Alpine Test
This is a well designed technical piece of gear.Incredibly durable and functional. I recently wore this while on an alpine backpacking, mountaineering trip in the Swiss Alps. I encountered rain, snow and sleet, along with high winds. It worked well solo ( with temps in the upper 20's) and as a base for the Mountain Hardware parka. DWR worked great and the fabric is tough holding up to lots of wear and tear. Finally after washing in the sink it looked great to wear in town.

Awesome jacket!
This is my new everyday jacket of choice when the temp is 35-50 degree. When it gets below that I simply throw on my MH Conduit soft-shell. Like prior reviews, this jacket is very light and warm. Unlike my other medium MH jackets, I bought this a size small. This fleece sized like most Northface.

Great for Texas Weather
In North Texas we only have a few days of "real" winter but we do have a wind that makes you feel like you not wearing anything at times. Much like everyone else says, this jacket does what it claims. It's light enough that you'll get more use from it than you would a heavy fleece. This will keep you plenty warm from fall, winter and spring nights. It's also light enough to use as a mid layer should you go somewhere or live somewhere frigid. Light rain didn't seem to phase it, however I wouldn't wear it if I was going to be in the rain the entire day or going into a downpour. If you are looking for a light mountaineering windproof jacket, then this comes highly recommended.

Just Right For Many Conditions
One of the guys I climb with bought one of these and I noticed it out one winter trip. After his blessing on great function, I bought one. Not disappointed. This thing is light, ventilation options, keeps that cold winter wind on the outside, not to bulky, not to lose and zips very nicely into my MH Confluence parka when it gets nasty up in any alpine zone. You may pay a bit more than other jackets in this category but IMHO, worth every penny.

Terrific running jacket
This stops the wind dead in it tracks! I have worn this when the wind is howling, the temp is 25 degrees and it feels like 18 degrees, and all I have underneath is a lightweight thermal shirt and the Mountain Hardwear Featherweight T shirt. I never even feel the wind. In fact this combination keeps me so warm that I open the pit zips all the way. The jacket is well made, and the pocket at the top is great for keeping my ipod. Keep in mind that this jacket is for running. It is not as warm as a regular fleece jacket if you just wear it around town. But for running you can't beat it. You will stay warm and the pit zips will stop you from sweating.

Great for running to and fro about the mall
The great windstopping ability and accessible pockets made this jacket a great choice for running between Bed, Bath, and Beyond and Target on even the coldest day. With uniquely positioned interior pockets, it made accessing my iPod and and cell phone a cinch. This is a great choice for heavy duty shopping days in inclement weather.

Great quality, and it stops the wind like a wall!
This jacket really stops the wind! I was wearing it in 20 degree weather with 30 mph winds, and I could tell that the wind was blowing, but I couldn't feel it inside the jacket! It's best worn as an outer layer to stop the wind, as it's not as warm as my MH fleece, but the wind will not get through.
