Mountain Hardwear Women's Alchemy Jacket

Sculpted with a close-fitting alpine cut for climbing on rock and ice, this Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Jacket is the same one you've seen in magazines and possibly making the big moves out on the wall. It's a rugged and stretchy combination of breathable Alchemy stretch face fabric with Schoeller Softshell™ four-way stretch panels along the sides and sleeves. Everything is backed with a windproof Gorež WINDSTOPPER® Softshell Laminate that helps insulate without stifling vapor transfer. Clean Power Stretch® cuffs eliminate the fuss and protruding tabs found on some soft shells with Velcro® cuff closures. If conditions are dry, the Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Jacket is also an ideal fit for Nordic skiing and snowshoeing throughout the winter months. If mobility matters and wind protection is key, this articulated and athletic jacket is the right formula for you.

  • Water-resistant and highly breathable Alchemy stretch face fabric consisting of 91% nylon and 9% Lycra® taslan treated with a DWR finish (9.5 oz./sq. yd.)
  • Durable, stretchy and breathable Schoeller Softshell™ panels consisting of 39% nylon/39% polyester/10% elastic yarn/12% polyurethane treated with a DWR finish (342 g./sq. yd.)
  • Windproof Gore™ WINDSTOPPER® Softshell Laminate
  • Warm 100% polyester Microfleece lining
  • Close fit construction with smart articulation design for mobility
  • One-handed hem drawcord
  • Concealed Power Stretch® cuffs seal in warmth
  • Weight: 1 lb. 3 oz. (548 g.)

Sharp looking jacket
I got an XS - 5'1" 110 lbs and it fits great. Very comfortable ... flattering fit. Very happy with it.

Great jacket!
I have a Marmot Sharp Point, but collar is too short. The Alchemy does all that the Sharp Point does, but because it has a little extra length in the collar and back length, it keeps me warmer and is my new jacket of choice. I can wear this jacket with layering through most of the MI winter (although sometimes I have to add a down vest). :)

Great softshell jacket!
Cut is athletic/fitted but allows up to 3 thin layers underneath; completely blocks the wind and keeps me nice and warm, and the drawstring neck can be made snug and is high enough to keep the draft out (unlike my Marmot Sharp Point). I'll be wearing this all winter! :)

a must for anyone needing flexibility and warmth
I liked the design immediately when I removed the packaging. This jacket keeps you outstandingly warm without lots of bulk while allowing for freedom of movement in the arms and torso. It will be a key piece in my outdoor wardrobe when the snow hits in a few months

Brilliant!
Great coat with plenty of cool features: especially like the fleece inner cuffs to keep out the chill. Also a big fan of the inside pocket. Wore it on a hike in a downpour with a pretty good elevation gain, stayed dry and didn't overheat. I'm a huge fan.

The best!
A great jacket - truly a wind stopper. I love the extra length in the back of the jacket. I can actually move, climb, and bike ride without getting by backside exposed to the weather. One of the best jackets I've ever bought!

Best piece of outterwear I own
wonderful jacket. I am outside all day with horses. I can be riding or teaching and it keeps me warm. I don't overheat when working and don't chill when I am standing and teaching. It is thin enough to let me have freedom of movement in any direction, and material works to stop wind, rain and cold. It proved to be my best piece of outter wear this weekend in the snow and ice storm in VA.

versatile
I work outside all day long in temperatures ranging from 15 to 50 in the winter. I needed a jacket that would keep me warm while exercising multiple horses in the morning and then teaching riding into the evening. The alchemy is perfect. It's warm, it breathes, it repels snow and rain, and it's not bulky. I love it.

the best after three tries
I purchased this jacket online after trying out (and returning) three other soft shells: the Marmot Super Shero, the REI One, and a soft shell by Columbia. This one is by far the best. Pockets are plentiful, and in the right places--high enough to be over a harness (a problem with the Marmot), with a sturdy inside pocket and sleeve pocket with a slant horizontal zipper (not a vertical zipper like the REI One). Fit is fairly snug and the jacket is warm. Stretch panels along sides ensure the jacket won't ride up when you reach upward (a pet peeve). I bought this jacket for mixed use: climbing, hiking, and just tooling around via bike. By far it's the warmest and best designed of all the ones I tried out, though not the lightest. A keeper!

Great alone for spring skiing
Used it spring 2006. Held up well in upper mountain, supple enough to give you ease of mobility and warm enough with 2 layers. Would highly recommend it - very compact and looks sharp.

Great jacket but poor fit
ordered the size 4 as I already own the synchro in the same size. but the wrist cuffs were 1 inch off my wrist and the arm holes were very snug against the armpits. I was wearing a teeshirt when trying it on. the jacket is cut smaller than I thought. still, in all fairness, it is very well made. made in usa, not china, like my synchro. jacket has nice form and not flimsy like some other shells. worth the money but unfortunately, I will have to return it as it does not fit!

2nd time is a charm
Can't wait to wear it out skiing! For those thinking about it, it runs a little tight for the atheltic built types. I had to send it back once and wound up paying more money the second time. I am hoping it's worth the extra $$.

Great!
This jacket is phenomenal, but the only thing I wish is that it didn't feel quite so restrictive. My purpose was to wear it climbing and now I'm not so sure I'll do that.

Review of Alchemy Jacket (Womens)
I really like the jacket in that it is lightweight and has a fitted style (slim fit). The Goretex material is very comfortable and comforms to the body. The high neck collar is fine when its extremely cold, but sometimes that collar can be irritating (doesn't fold down properly). The zippers and pockets are great - especially the one on the arm. I wish this jacket came in bright red without the gray accents. The fleece lining is very soft and comfortable, but after wearing it for awhile the fleece material starts to shed/fall out in small pieces (pills). Otherwise, I'm satisfied with the jacket.
