Quality and Beautiful Color (Pale Orchid)
November 09, 2009
I fell in love with the color of this jacket and ordered it from Altrec. I ended up purchasing it from another online retailer after being notified they were out of stock in my chosen size/color. (I see that they have replenished their supply). The orchid color is really pretty and co-ordinates with many items I already own. The finishing is exceptional-the little bill on the hood and the interior are nicely crafted.
Absolutely the best rain jacket ever.

I own three of these in different colors and my husband owns one. Isn't that the way of things? This jacket has gone with me everywhere, and been used over my TNF Thunder down jacket on the slopes, and over my fleece at Legoland on a stormy, cold spring break weekend where we enjoyed the whole empty park in our wet weather gear. It is my emergency backup plan and goes with me wherever I go, no matter what the weather is expected to be. I'm an out-of-shape size 16, 5'8" with a blocky build and longish arms. The XL is big enough to fit over my down or fleece with room to move. The LG is nice for a trim fit, with no room for a mid-layer, but the arms are still long enough YEAH! Love the pit zips for instant ventilation in the eye of the storm. Love the large hood to wear over hoodies and billed caps. Gosh I love everything about this jacket. And it looks like there's some other colors I might like...Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Bought this jacket in a medium. It fit in the torso but was extremely bunchy around the shoulder and in the sleeves. It seemed to be made of high quality material, but I ultimately ended up returning it.
February 17, 2009
The day I received this jacket I got stuck out in a 60-mph wind&rain storm. My pants got soaked but the top half of my body stayed warm & dry. I'm 5'3", 125lbs. & ordered the med. It fits great over fleece & sweaters.
February 18, 2006
I love this jacket! Just got in in the mail today. Perfect fit, a bit longer than I'd imagined. I got the grasshopper color and it isn't quite the same as it looks online, a lot lighter, but still nice!
August 26, 2011
Bought for my daughters and they are looking forward to wearing it when it rains. Looks really great on them. Fit is great and will work well with mountain hardware monkey jacket in colder weather.
Does its job while looking nice
March 04, 2009
Went on a trip to Hawaii during rainy season. With the winds and misting I felt dry and protected.
September 29, 2009
I purchased this jacket (black) in March and am absolutely loving it. Perfect for chilly or rainy days in spring, late summer and fall. The jacket has kept me dry, warm and stylish - I've received many compliments! Highly recommended.
Epic Jacket weathers epic rains
December 11, 2003
The jacket arrived just in time for the Bay Area's winter rains and is keeping me cozy and dry. The pit zips are key for rainy day hikes and the roll away hood is added plus. Definitely a fabulous value.
September 24, 2009
I love this jacket! It's really lightweight, fits well, and keeps you dry from the rain! It looks great on and allows for room to wear addition clothing underneath to keep warm as well.
I like it
March 26, 2004
I am impressed with this jacket as I was after a very light and compressible shell without a lot of bells and whistles to confuse me (and add weight). This fits the bill and has the features I needed such as a decent hood and it fits over other layers so you could conceivably seal up pretty well if caught in a storm. But I just got it and spring came early so I haven't actually had the chance to use it. Also some of the stitching looks like it's already coming apart right out of the package. I imagine Mtn Hardware probably covers that in their warranty. I like this jacket but don't know how it will hold up to use.
August 14, 2009
I bought 2 jackets for my girls who are going away to school. They both told me that they fit very well and that they are going to be great walking to class in the rain
April 29, 2009
This jacket is heavy duty and comparable to more expensive brands of basically the same thing. The pockets are well placed, the lining is nice, the fit is good, the color is like that shown in picture.
It's a keeper
April 22, 2011
I received my Rain jacket quickly and as others had mentioned, it does run a bit large. That's okay with me as I wanted to be sure to be able to layer warmer cloths underneath when needed. It is extremely light-weight which should be great for packing although when I first saw it, I was surprised as I thought it would be a bit heavier. The sleeves are quite long but are very easily adjusted at the wrist. I haven't had an opportunity to try it out yet in the rain so I'm trusting it will be rainproof! :)Pros: Great value
September 21, 2011
The "Seafrost" color is gorgeous and unusual, and the fit is flattering! Lightweight, yet really keeps you dry!!! Typical Mountain Hardwear quality - which is a good thing . . .Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
August 19, 2009
bought this for hiking in Uganda. it super light yet not at all breathable... can feel warm at times. size (i bought a small) larger than expected -- would by a size smaller. very waterproof and highly compressible. would recommend.
Great rain shell
March 23, 2011
I love this shell. It is definitely NOT meant to keep your warm, but it is great for layering. I generally wear a women's medium in jackets, and this one fits a fleece or sweatshirt underneath it very comfortably. The first weekend I had it, I ran an 8K in it (in pouring rain), and it kept the rain out. I love the zipper vents and the arm pocket. Also, Altrec is great! I ordered my jacket on a Wednesday, and it was at my front door on Thursday afternoon.Pros: Great design, Ease of use

perfect. as described.
Women's MHW Epic Jacket
May 15, 2011
Love this jacket. Love the color options, love the fit. Chin zipper area has soft lining which is a plus. Adjustable hem and hood, velcro option on sleeves if you like to tighten them up. Sleeves are plenty long, which I like... they hit at about my thumb knuckle. I am 5'4", 120 and the small gives me plenty of room to wear a sweatshirt underneath, so if you don't want the extra room size down.Pros: Build quality, Performance
April 27, 2011
I bought this jacket for my teenage daughter. She runs track in Ohio. This year has been like a monsoon. She wears the jacket to school and trains in it at track practice. It breathes and has been completely waterproof. It is easy to pack. She loves it. We highly recommend it.Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value
March 14, 2006
This jacket is sik! it is super light, totally waterproof yet breathable! The storable hood and pit zips are the best.
warning: do not purchase
March 18, 2006
flimsy, not worth the cost of the jacket, though it was cheap. i feel the picture on the website DOES NOT do justice to how thin the jacket is. the picture does not accurately represent the jacket. also, one needs to layer with this particular jacket-it cannot be worn alone with a short/long sleeve t-shirt. it has zero insulation from the elements except to protect from rain and perhaps cut the breeze. the jacket also has a terrible odor which does not wash off. it smells like a mix between latex and poly/plastic. my recommendation, do not buy this jacket.
March 27, 2011
Great fit (I am 5'3", 125 and I ordered the small), really love the color too (I have the blue). Nice light weight with room to layer. Would recommend this to othersPros: Great design, Great value
March 31, 2011
I bought this jacket for that special someone. And the jacket is very nice. It's made of good quality material. It's a comfort fit, as opposed to athletic fit. And I like it so much that I bought one for myself. I like both jackets a lot. And I'm brand-loyal now. Thank you Mountain Hardware for making GREAT jackets.
Wife loves it
June 30, 2008
She says it keeps the wind and rain out, and compliments her high-waisted mom jeans.
it was exelent
August 27, 2003
This jacket was the best jacket I have ever owned...it kept the rain away, it kept me warm and it is stylish too! I highly recommend this jacket!
March 12, 2006
I really love the jacket. I was skeptical at first because it felt kinda weird, but after a few days wear I;m satisfied. The sleeves are a little long on me, but all in all it's a nice rain barrier.
Great color, look and fit.
February 17, 2010
This is my first Mountain Hardware jacket and I really love the fit and the look. I can't believe how fast it got here. My first Altrec experience has been great!
not very breathable
June 30, 2009
I bought this in hopes to use it as a biking rain jacket since the grean flash color was so visible and it said it was breathable. After biking in this on a windy day I was satisfied with the wind-proofing but I was actually WET from sweating and the material being very unbreathable. The pit-zips were also very stiff and kind of uncomfortable. I got this in a meduim and it was quite large. I would order a size down if you like the fitted look in your jackets and I wouldn't order it at all if you plan on doing vigorous activity in this jacket.
Mountain hardware epic jacket
October 04, 2012
This was a wonderful rain jacket for the spring/summer. Very comfy once you get the right size. I felt like it ran pretty small, particularly in the hips if you want to zip it easily. I am about 5'4 and 130lb. I ended up with a medium and it fits well. No complaints so far....Pros: Great design, Build quality
March 16, 2011
I have not yet gotten to test this jacket, but it is raining today, so I should. I was happy because it fit well. Lots of room for layering underneath. It is also very lightweight, easy to pack to bring along.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value
Great product, too big
March 16, 2011
I want to love this jacket. Mountain Hardware did an excellent job in designing this jacket, which offers good ventilation, pocket placement, hood shape and zip cords to tie the jacket in tight. The only problem is that 1. I ordered the wrong size (I'm 5'5" and 125 pounds and ordered a medium, which is decidedly too big) and 2. even accounting for ordering the wrong size, the sleeves are disproportionately long. The zip cord along the bottom helps to adjust for overall sizing problems and almost makes the jacket work. The long sleeves, however, are driving me crazy. The jacket is well-constructed enough that I think I'll return it for a smaller size and cross my fingers that the sleeve length will be normal.
May 21, 2007
I absolutely love my epic jacket ordered on altrec.com. it repels water so well and doesn't make me hot which i like.
April 19, 2010
The fit and look of this jacket is great. I ordered a size large to give me enough room to layer underneath and it will work perfectly. The sleeves are even long enough so I don't have to worry about stretching my arms out and having them come up to my forearms.
Love this jacket
November 22, 2011
Great jacket, great color, quality is as expected from Mountain Hardwear. Was shipped very quickly. I gave only 4 stars for comfort because lining has a plastic feeling when not wearing long sleeves. I didn't rate it hurricane-proof as I haven't been out during a hurricane!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
December 30, 2010
Great jacket for the price. Excellent in the rain.....perfect for those days when you know its going to be coming down all day. Lightweight easy to stow away when not need. Overall a great jacket for the price

Love this jacket. Well made, perfect for wet weather, runs a little small.
April 08, 2009
This is my first truly waterproof jacket. It is lightweight and also keeps me warm with a baselayer underneath. The arm and jacket length fit me just right (I'm 5'9). Great jacket!
Nice Rain Jacket
December 13, 2009
I ordered an XS and the fit is very nice, enough room for light layering. I also really like the hood, it is large enough and stays put.
Great Rain Jacket
May 26, 2009
This jacket is a great waterproof jacket. Water brushes off and you stay dry. Fits great. I would recommend trying one on for sizing before purchasing. I got a small and it fits perfect with room for underneath layers. Highly recommended.
Women's Epic Jacket
November 26, 2012
Overall I'm satisfied with the jacket. After a ton of research and comparing brands, this is the one I bought. I wanted to stay away from Gortex because I seemed to get sticky with a lot of moment however the Mountain Hardware Dry.Q Core 2.5-layer fabric seemed to have the same problem. Guess you can't stay dry on the outside and inside at the same time. Water doesn't seep through the jacket. So it does the trick in this Portland Oregon weather. Like the elastic in the hood too, definitely helps when the rain is coming at you from all angles.Pros: Great value
