Great quality jacket - very warm!
March 06, 2012

I bought this jacket in Oasis Blue and get lots of compliments. I am a big fan of Mountain Hardware and this jacket meets the quality expected of the brand. The jacket is really warm and true to size. I bought a large and it fits well and is roomy enough for a big sweater underneath but still has shape. I am 5'11" and 160 pounds. Great features of the coat are the soft fleece lined inner collar and pockets, detachable hood, warmth and style. The jacket is actually a little too warm at times, the only improvement I would suggest is pit zips for ventilation. One thing that is not clear from the description and pictures is that along the arms the material changes from soft nylon to tougher panels in areas you might rub against things that could rip your coat.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value

February 15, 2011

I love it! Got this as a Christmas present and immediately fell in love with it. Fits great and it feels cozy and warm even in cold temperatures. Can't wait to take it to Montana to test it during skiing.

fits perfectly everywhere but the hips. Im 5'2 135 so a medium is too long in the arms and everywhere else but the small is too tight in the hips, other than that this jacket is so warm and durable, great find!

Great Coat
November 19, 2012

Initial thoughts are that this is going to be a great coat. It is a gift for my lady. It looks like very high quality and very warm. I like that it has a hood and it appears to be a bit longer than a normal jacket. This will be great for any winter time activity or event.

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value

February 10, 2010

The blue color is stunning, great fit, cut a bit longer in the back, very nice.

Awesomely warm!
March 18, 2013

I ordered this jacket for a trip to Vail. It was super warm and has a nice fit. I'm 5'6" and generally a size 6. I ordered a small, and its a little snug around my hips but not enough to cause me to dislike the jacket. I have noticed some "molting" even though I've only worn it about a week - again, not enough for me to return or dislike it. The warmth is the best part!

Great Coat
November 11, 2009

A comfortable, very light, very warm coat. The hood is the best I've had and the chin warmer is excellent. I haven't had a chance to wear it on one of our sub-zero upstate NY days but am sure it will be warm. The coat does run large and there's a logo on the chest that doesn't appear in the picture.

Price is right, definitely runs big
June 19, 2009

As most of the other reviewers said, this jacket definitely runs big. I'm almost always a solid Medium so I bought the Medium thinking that it would work out perfectly for layering underneath for mountaineering. Had to return it and get a Small though, which is perfect even with all of the layers underneath (long underwear, fleece, and shell). Got the Lemongrass color and LOVE it. Though it doesn't have the waterproofing like the Sub Zero Jacket, the price on this Parka is much more affordable! Would definitely recommend.

Perfect!
May 25, 2013

I'm 100% satisfied. The Hunker Down Parka is a perfect fit for my 5'7" 125 lb. frame. The most exciting thing is that the sleeves are long enough for my long arms. I like the soft black color, the longer length, and two bonus features: adjustable wrist fit and the can't-get-lost-in-the-casing hood cords. The jacket is soft, which allows for ease of movement.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use

toasty puffer
May 18, 2009

A purchase for my wife: 5'8"/ 130 / slender torso / broad shoulders & long arms - size M. She gets cold & this thing keeps her warm. She like the Lemongrass colour & it's easy to see to pull out of the pack. The hood & length sold her the parka over the jacket, though the greater water resistance of the latter was desirable. Fit: bulky, but hey! it's a puffer. Typical MH cut - shorter, squarer & fairly trim (though you can't tell just how much, of course), with nicely lined pockets, good draws, etc.. Fabric is not shiny, like some. Bottom line: Warm enough to lower the rating on your winter bag if you wear it to bed. Caveat: MH fabric is light & catches easily. Don't be upset if you find a run or two after an extended outing.

Great jacket
February 05, 2012

I like this jacket, it's super warm, it seems well-constructed and pretty durable for a down jacket that isn't super expensive. I'm 5'5" and 125 (athletic build) and a small fits me perfectly, I have a longer torso so I usually have a problem with jackets being too short on me (this is a parka so that's not an issue) but overall it fits really well. I haven't had it that long so I can't comment on the durability but I bought it on sale as a jacket to throw in my pack on backpacking trips in case it gets pretty cold, I've worn it on my daily dog walks (~2 miles) this week (~30 degrees and 35 mph winds) and it was plenty warm. I'll be taking it to Alaska in a few months so we'll see how it holds up...

great Jacket
February 07, 2010

Great jacket, warm, comfortable but not bulky. It actually fits your body pretty well. It is Not like most of the jackets that typically cover to your waist. It is a little longer and has your hips covered. These few inches make a huge difference to keep you warm!

Best Coat EVER!
October 08, 2009

I could not be any more happy with this coat! It is perfect in every way! I am 5 foot 7 and the length of the small actually is long enough for my torso. It is so warm, durable, light weight, and well made. Love it, will have it forever!

warm enough to melt your heart...
January 29, 2010

I live in Wisconsin and work outdoors part of the day. I needed something super warm, long enough to cover my bum, and with a hood. The Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero met all of my expectations. One minor thing lacking, though...I own three other MH jackets, and all of them have a zip chest pocket on either the outside, inside or both. This jacket has neither and I have to unzip the jacket to access my cellphone, which I keep in the inside hip zip pocket. Other than that, it is A-1!

Excellent!
December 11, 2009

Today I rode my bike in 25 degree windy weather and stayed warm. This coat is very light and warm and not at all bulky. Too add to the other sizing comments - I am 5'6" 140 lbs. and the medium fits me well. But another key factor is hip size. The coat fits me well(hips = 39"), comfortably snug around the hips which is nice for preventing drafts. A 5'4", 140 lb. friend with wider hips (41") tried it on and couldn't pull it down over her hips when zipped. She would need to go with the jacket instead of the parka.

Nice features but poor cut
April 28, 2009

I bought this jacket hoping it would be a nice throw-on to keep me warm all winter. Although it's very light and warm, with some nice technical features (zip-off down hood, ripstop fabric, two-way zippers, fleece-lined pockets, hem drawcord, inner pocket & stuff sack) the cut was too untailored to be comfortable for anything other than lounging or hiking. Usually I wear a size S or M, and decided to get the M in this jacket, which ended up being way too huge in the chest/main body, but just right in length & arms. (I'm 5'7" 128 lbs.) So unfortunatley I'm returning it. If you don't mind the marshmallow look, it might be OK, just go on the small side!

Great jacket for an incredible price!
October 19, 2009

Great jacket. I bought it for myself, but it does run a size larger so I gave it to my daughter in Alaska who loves it!! Loves the length and great coverage provided by the hood. She is able to comfortably layer with the jacket. Now to find one in my size.

Great Winter Coat
October 04, 2013

This coat was better than I had hoped. It fit great and also kept me warm for hours of hiking in the Iowa winter. Another plus was that I didn't get to warm when it wasn't as cold or when worn inside for awhile.

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

HUGE
June 10, 2009

I am 5'3" and I usually wear a women's large or x-large. This jacket literally swallowed me! I will probably order a medium in this jacket for it to fit properly. But it will definitely keep me warm and I love the lemongrass color

Great Value for the $$
March 01, 2010

Bought this for my wife (so she would stop taking my Subzero hooded jacket). She is 5'6", 115 lbs, 34C, the Small fits her pretty snug in the shoulders and chest, but it isn't too small. The blue color is very attractive. She's happy with it, and I got my down jacket back!

Summit worthy!
June 05, 2009

This coat took me to the summit of two mountains. Weather conditions were less than ideal! I did appreciate past reviews on sizing. I am 5'1' and 99#. Being a mountaineer does require layering. This coat allowed me to do so without bulk.

Really, really, warm
December 01, 2012

Bought this for wear as a transient who travels a lot and needs tough, unbulky protection to survive Northeast winters on the streets and in airline luggage. The jacket hasn't exactly been pampered. Yes, it's down, and yes it occasionally gets rained on, but so far the coating has kept the feathers fluffy and I've stayed warm. External shell has held up well. Terrific fit, pockets where you need them. This jacket is warm, even when standing around, without being bulky or constraining movement like a longer coat does. Did I mention that this jacket is warm?

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Love the jacket!

Great jacket. Great color. Love the added length for warmth. Keeps your hips warm. very pleased with the jacket and the price!

Nice down jacket
February 19, 2012

The jacket is very warm. It is cut nicely with a good fit, but it is small over the hips/butt area. Other than that I really like it. I have longer arms and it fits my arms nicely. A keeper!

Great jacket...runs a bit big
May 27, 2009

Love this jacket. Warm, cozy and lightweight...although it runs quite a bit bigger than another Mountain Hardwear jacket I own. But it's worth it to have some butt coverage! Please do buy from Altrec; their customer service was outstanding. Someone in distribution had screwed up, and my jacket wasn't going to arrive in time for my trip to Peru...but customer service worked for most of a day and FedEx'd the jacket to my connecting plane flight. It was at the gate in Atlanta when I arrived! Way beyond the call, and many thanks, since nights on Lake Titicaca were in the 30's.

Good purchase!
February 03, 2013

I bought this jacket because I needed something warm but not too bulky. It's very lightweight and warm, though I have been wearing it during a southern California winter! I get cold easily, so it's pretty perfect. I'm 110 lbs., 5'4 and have a petite frame. The jacket reaches almost mid-thigh, and that extra coverage really helps. I wish that the hood was detachable, but it's not a deal breaker. The one thing is that the nylon outer shell generates a lot of static and it's a bit of a nuisance. The jacket size is on the larger side, but it's not a problem and is conducive to layering.

Great coat!
March 02, 2009

This coat is really lightweight but very warm. It fits well and looks great!

Nice coat, but not for curvey women.
December 28, 2009

I'm 5'2, 120 pounds with a small frame on top and wider hips. I got a size small and it was huge on top and a little snug around the hips. I looked like an upside down triangle with it on. I wish it fit because it is a great deal, and it's sooo warm.

very warm!
January 16, 2010

it's the best coat, I've ever had!!!!!

Warm enough for the city, not gonna cut it in the mountains...
March 30, 2010

This is a very cute jacket, and will work on a cold wintry day in the city; but this jacket just isn't puffy enough for mountaineering. For sizing: an extra small fit me pretty much perfectly (it was a little snug on my hips, but totally worked). My measurements chest:33, waist: 28, hips, 38

December 16, 2010

Got my new MHW Sub Zero Parka two days ago. What should i say? I love my new jacket. Nice colour (bramble) and an absolute lightweight in relation to the warming effect. I hope it works in our cold northnorwegian winter. I`m 5,71 ft. , 152 lb and have small hips and my jacket size medium fits perfect. Women with wider hips should maybe chosse a size large.

Good down parka
February 14, 2011

This parka is supposed to keep you warm in sub zero temperatures, but I didn't test it in that type of weather. It did feel warm and comfortable at 32F though. Build quality is very good and small things are well thought through. The best feature compared to other down jackets is that it is really a parka and itÂ’s length is exactly what I wanted. About 2 inches longer than average down jacket. It doesn't have good water protection and the fabrics looks thin, but I think it it adequate. You don't want to put a backpack and hike wearing that parka. One thing I want to mention that it doesn't look like designed with women's body in mind. I'd rather call it a "unisex" parka. The bottom line: it is nice looking, well designed, light, warm and comfortable. I wish they have more colors to choose from and a bit lower price.

Pros: Build quality

not for me
February 21, 2013

This jacket is oddly shaped. Very narrow in the hips. I wonder who designed it? There is no two way zipper, so you cannot sit in a car with it on. I live where it can get very cold in the winter, with alot of wind. I felt that there was not enough down in the sleeves to keep me warm. But I have have had that problem with evey jacket I have tried this year.

Cons: Bad design

toasty warm!
March 17, 2009

I absolutely love this jacket - it is very lightweight, super comfortable and incredibly warm. Easy to move around in. Have had a few stray feather come through, but not many. I am average - 5'6" an 120# and ordered a small which fit perfectly. Highly recommend!
