Good jacket
January 22, 2011

Had this jacket for about a month -- it fits a bit small from the sizing chart (size 6, but the small was too small). It's really warm and soft. A friend of mine has this jacket and after a year it begins to look a bit worn, but I suppose that's to be expected.

Cons: Wears quickly

Super warm fleece great for layering under a windproof jacket. It'll keep you warm, but if there's any wind, it'll go right through the fleece. More fitted than traditional North Face fleeces, and the fleece is plush and soft, and doesn't pill. I'm 5'3" and petite, and a size Small was the perfect fit. Overall, very happy with this fleece and I now own it in two different colors!

I heart this jacket!
November 10, 2010

This is my favorite jacket, not always the most practical, but it is super comfortable. I even wear it at home on the couch watching TV, it is just so cozy even the cat likes to cuddle with it. And by the way, the cat hair is not very noticeable on this fleece which is an added bonus. I feel like Mountain Hardware needs to add a medium and a half to their sizing. I am always between a medium and large. With this jacket, I would recommend that you not size up. The medium is a bit smaller than I would like and the sleeves are barely long enough, but I feel like I'm swimming in the large. The fleece is stretchy enough that you can still comfortably layer, so that is not really a concern. I have the purple color (don't recall the name). Its a nice color, but I wish that the cuffs, hem, etc were black to add a little contrast. I do like that the logo is the same color as the material, so I don't feel like a walking advertisement. The jacket launders well, just follow the directions on the tag.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance

So warm and cozy...
October 08, 2012

I love my monkey woman fleece. It keeps me extremely warm and packs down really well. It is light weight but keeps you very warm. The 3 pockets are great for holding small items like cell phone, keys, chapstick, flashlight, etc. when out and about town or in the woods on a trail. I have owned 2 monkey woman products in the last few years not because they need replaced but because I want to keep them and use them everywhere. I have 3 different colors and use them all regularly. It is a product that keeps you very warm and cozy. One and only down side is that it doesnt have great wind protection, but thats due to its fleece nature. Not a defect in the product simply a cause due to the type of product.

Super Soft Fleece
December 16, 2010

I got this fleece instead of a patagonia one that I was looking at that was very similar, but way more expensive. This was a perfect substitute. I bought this in white and ordered a small. I'm 5'8", 140 lbs. The arms *just* fit and I wish they were a tad longer, but overall this is an amazingly comfortable, soft and flattering fleece. Not windproof, but awesome for layering or just wearing around the house.

great warm jacket
September 22, 2011

I haven't worn this jacket yet but I got it for colder weather hiking/backpacking/mountaineering trips, sitting around camp, and for travel. The jacket seems very warm and the quality is the usual solid quality to be expected from Mountain Hardware. It's really soft, very, very light, and looks a bit fuzzy (monkey phur). I got the darkish purple colour and it's quite nice. I would NOT wear this on its own as it is quite roomy. It fits like a jacket. I am 5'9", 135 lbs and got the medium. The length on the arms and body is just right (i have long arms and a long torso). The sleeves are especially nice because they have fitted stretchy cuffs to keep the warmth in - the stretchy bit is also found at the waist and around the neck. I could fit another 2 layers under it comfortably. I find the fit a bit boxy at the shoulders but i am slight. Either way, I'm not too concerned about the appearance. I'm convinced that it will serve its purpose. Can't comment specifically on function because I haven't used it yet but I am looking forward to wearing it to a trip to Mongolia soon (October-Nov-Dec) and I have no doubt that it will be significantly warmer than my other polartec fleeces. This is also polartec but I think the fuzzy fabric will be better at keeping body heat in.

I have this in black and wear it all the time. It is light but still keeps you warm. It isn't the best for wind protection but I was surprised at how warm it is even in the wind. The fleece holds up well and hasn't matted or pilled.

colors...
September 30, 2010

I found it very hard to gauge what some of the colors actually looked like in person. Knowing Altrec has a fantastic return policy I went for it and ordered the Bramble/Nebiola and the Cherise/Berry Soda and BOY AM I GLAD I DID! Won't be returning these... They are beautiful! The in-person color of the Bramble is what you see on the pictures of the model - a medium to dark plum. The Cherise is a beautiful, medium magenta that is better depicted online in the pictures of the Girl's Monkey Jacket (on Altrec.com). The Girl's jacket picture is a bit lighter than the actual color, especially the pocket & cuffs (pocket & cuffs are darker than the jacket). Hopefully this helps anyone/everyone make the best color choice(s) for themselves when purchasing! P.S. I have 7 of these for a reason - they are the only things that keep me warm at work (computer room). Thermal but not wind resistant. I'm 5'7", 170lbs and the large fits me perfectly. Slightly fitted (cute fitted!) but the stretch in the hem and cuffs makes them INSANELY comfy!

A Must Have!
October 26, 2011

I bought this fleece to wear in the fall underneath a down vest as well as for the winter as a layer underneath my ski jacket. You will fall in love with it the first time you put it on. I like this fleece because it is a little longer then the fleeces I own from The North Face and I am tall (5'7) so I tend to gravitate toward cuts that are longer in the torso. I purchased the white fleece in a small and it fits perfectly!

Extremely Soft & Light Weight
February 02, 2012

This jacket is extremely soft to the touch, warm, and light weight. The chest pocket on this jacket is very convenient and large enough for storing a phone or other personal items. The power stretch material at the waist provides a more fitted silhouette. The semi-fitted style of this jacket is very flattering and not bulky. The material of this jacket is stretchy which allows freedom of movement, and is extremely comfortable. This jacket can serve as a great mid-layer for cold weather, or an outer layer for mild weather. I highly recommend this jacket!

Not Monkeying Around!
September 24, 2012

I ordered this coat to replace my first Monkey that my husband (then boyfriend) purchased for me. I have always been a cold person and he wanted to keep me warm even when we were apart - mission accomplished! My last Monkey has now been rotated into the 'hard outdoor work with paint' category of clothes; it is still kicking after 5 years of wear but the 'loft' of the fleece has diminished after so many years of compression. For example where my seat belt ran across my chest got compressed long before the rest of the jacket. The new Monkey is wonderful, same construction and fit, same soft feel as my first one. I am 5'9" and I ordered a large to fit my broader shoulders and it also leaves me a bit of layering room underneath though I could probably be comfortable in a medium as well. I also think the placement of the stretch panels is very smart. Overall, I'd recommend it!

Best jacket EVER
October 03, 2012

I bought my first monkey fleece 5 years ago and just now bought a new one, only because its too small now. Originally, I went to the store to buy a NorthFace coat, but opted for the mountain hardware because it was warmer, softer, more flattering, AND cheaper! You can wear this fleece on its own and it will be very warm, or under a winter coat and I can almost guarantee you'll be set for anywhere you might go! Buy it, I promise you won't be disappointed.

My go-to jacket
January 29, 2013

I have owned this jacket for a while now and it is the first one I grab on these cold Pacific Northwest Winter nights. This is by far the warmest, lightest jacket I own. I have a size small (I am 5 ft 100lbs) fits great. Able to wear whatever underneath and its not too bulky. I have the steam color and it goes with everything. Great jacket. Although I have been careful not to wear it if I will get it dirty, I am afraid to wash it. But I wear it in the rain no problem. Want one in every color!

Bought it for my daughter after she grew out of the same model of last year's jacket. She loves it because it's so soft and has big pockets. She doesn't like jackets that are too bulky or too warm, so it fits the bill. I wouldn't expect it to be warm enough for most people in a Midwest winter, but probably great for temps above freezing. July 27, 2012

I have 3 Monkey Jackets and recently bought 2 for my family members as gifts. The fleece is very soft and comfortable. The jacket comes in a variety of colors, bright or the standard black/white. The collar is high enough to keep the wind off my neck. The full price of the jacket is a bit high in my view so I like getting the discount price. I had never bought anything from Mountain Hardwear until this jacket. I am a true believer in their product.

Made with a type of Polartec which is very fuzzy, she loves it after having many straight Polartec 200 jackets. Yet to see if it doesn't mat and stays soft and smooth to the touch. Also loves the Powerstretch cuffs and side-cuts. Fits waist-length and form-fitted. Was a steal for the price. Loving this jacket
April 25, 2013

This jacket is so comfortable and Cozy. The stretchy material at the cuffs make it easy to move around. There are three Roomy pockets to carry just about anything. Although this jacket doesn't keep the wind out it's still a great purchase. I would suggest sizing down. I am 5'4" and 150 pounds And the large is baggy.

Pros: Great design

Is is comfortable, and very warm. Very good to be used below a rain jacket. I'm always cold but with this, I'm nice and snugly. The only thing is that I am very petite and the jacket is just perfect to me, so I think it runs a bit small. But I loved it and think is a great purchase!

Wonderfully Warm!
February 23, 2013

I adore this jacket! It's like wearing your favorite fleece robe~ fit is true to size, jacket is very comfortable, as well as stylish. Plus it comes in great colors! I especially like the "extended" sleeve design and convenient upper pocket. I have the Monkey Woman Lite jacket as well but I like this one because it doesn't have a hood and is more suitable for casual wear. You can't go wrong with this one!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, WARM AND COZY!
February 12, 2010

I am so happy with this purchase I am going to buy for my mom as well! It is very comfortable and warm! The fit is wonderful, much better then the north face I have worn in the past. I purchased it in a size large but I believe they run big and I will be exchanging it for a size medium. But as far as the quality and style I would 100% recommend it as a casual fall/winter jacket!

Great jacket
June 19, 2012

I love this jacket! The high pile fleece is very soft and cozy and I especially like cuffs on the sleeves, which help to keep out drafts. The collar is also very warm when turned up and zipped. The jacket itself is not wind proof at all, but it certainly takes the edge off of a cold wind. I like this aspect of it, as it keeps the jacket from being too warm when you are active - good for chilly hikes and bike rides. No complaints about the fit or quality. I've had it for a while and haven't had any problems with the fabric pilling or wearing unfavorably. Overall, it's a great jacket!

Ridiculously Comfortable
July 04, 2013

This jacket is VERY comfortable. When I am at home laying around watching movies/TV, instead of grabbing a blanket to snuggle up to, I grab this jacket. The only issues I've had is that after its first wash (yes, I followed the directions on the tag), the sleeve got a good sized hole in it. So it isn't that durable. And while this jacket IS incredibly warm, if it's even slightly windy outside, the warmth factor goes away. The wind blows right through this thing no problem and you are left freezing as if you're wearing nothing. This is NOT made for windy conditions, which is understandable because it's made to "breathe" for hiking.

My Daughter Loves it
December 05, 2010

I purchased this jacket for my college-age daughter who fell in love with how soft and comfy it is. I agree with the previous reviewer who commented that there is alot of difference between the size M and L, and my daughter would have preferred a size in between. She has had this jacket since last January, and states she has no complaints.

This jacket is great! It fits true to size ( I am normally a size 8 and I got a medium). It is much warmer than I thought, and so it is much better for outside than it is inside. I would definitely recommend buying one!

Can't go wrong!
September 24, 2011

This is my first Mountain Hardwear jacket, haven't had a chance to wear it, so I really can't attest to all of the above first hand except sizing & I think it's true to size or even a bit on the large size. I'm 5'8" and wear a size 4/6 and I love that it's roomy enough, but not too full in the torso when zipped and the sleeves are loooong! Yay! My sister and all my nieces have one, they live in them in the winter & they look so awesome. I admired them all last season and finally decided with my kids getting older and into sports now, I needed a nice looking, lighter winter jacket that still looks sporty. I love it!

Great Jacket!
March 06, 2012

Bought in color Jewel for my wife. She loves the jacket. It is an eye-catcher, soft, and warmer than you might think from its light weight. The side pockets can hold large items, and the chest pocket is handy. It seems well made, but cannot judge durability as it was purchased only two weeks ago.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, looks great!

Soft As A Kitten, Fits Like a Mitten
August 23, 2010

Pardon the rhyme but this jacket is soft and fits well. Despite the "monkey fur," the jacket is nicely fitted and is long enough in the sleeves and body for a tall person like me. It seems warm but I won't be able to test that out until the fall. The jacket is practical enough to wear on a hike but nice enough to wear in town. It won't spend much time in my closet.

I am very pleased with the purchase I made of this jacket. I've been wearing it everyday since I got it! It's super warm, so that I don't even need to wear a sweater underneath (I'm 5'5", 140, and ordered a medium that I could definitely fit a thick sweater under if I wanted). I enjoy the feel of the jacket; I feel so soft! I haven't experienced any pilling, or any other problems with the jacket yet (but please keep in mind that at this point, I've only had it for about a week). I was on the fence between this jacket and The North Face Denali until I went to go try on both in a store. I was still skeptical of the pros and cons of both once I walked out of the store, but I decided to stick with this jacket and I'm so glad I did. It's very flattering to the female figure. I LOVE it!!!

"Phur-ry" and comfy, nice looking design
January 17, 2012

This is my first Mountain Hardware jacket, and so far, after 2 weeks, I love it! I bought this to replace a North Face Denali Thermal jacket, so that is the only other "furry" fleece jacket I can compare it to. The North Face has a softer hand (feel) to the "fur" and is slightly warmer than the Mountain Hardware jacket, but the North Face also costs more. I'd say that this jacket is good above freezing temperatures. I like the Mountain Hardware because "everybody" has the North Face jackets and I wanted something a little different. To help people with sizing, I am 5'4" and 122 lbs. The Small fits snugly and is very flattering. I bought the Medium to allow more room for layers underneath, and it looks nice, even if I don't have layers on underneath (i.e. it doesn't look huge). I also like the stretchy cuffs on the sleeves and at the bottom of the jacket, which keep the cold out. I have the black, which has the yellow MH logo. If you don't want the logo to stand out too much, you might go for one of the other colors, which have the tone-on-tone logo (see the brown, for example, which is a nice color).

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

Nice fit
May 02, 2010

Nice fit I'm long-waisted so this jacket is perfect for me. The sleeves are a nice length as well. Overall it fits well (a little more tailored than some fleece jackets) and the fleece is very soft. Great product for the price!

I ordered this jacket because a lot of my friends had it and absolutely loved it. It is very warm, but fits very snug. I usually wear a 0 and am 5' tall, so I ordered an XS in this jacket. I almost think it is too small, especially if you want to wear anything thicker than a t-shirt underneath. Other than the sizing issue, I would definitely recommend this jacket!

Pros: Ease of use, Cons: the 'phur' will compact over time.

Warmer than I thought
January 31, 2011

I had been wanting this zip-up for a while. And when I finally broke down and got it, I was not at ALL disappointed! It is a lot warmer than expected. Although it doesn't block any wind, layered under a good, lightweight rainjacket, it's toasty. Not something I usually take into the backcountry, though, because it is fairly bulky. But also it washed a lot better than I was expecting. It turned out even fluffier and furrier than before! Definitely a win.

Slip this on and you will think you are in heaven. I bought this pre-season so its hanging in my closet waiting for cold temps. I am sure it will be a favorite. Great jacket
November 17, 2012

I ordered this in Ruby, a beautiful red. The jacket is very soft and seems warm. However, as another MH jacket (Pyxis) was too small for me in XS, I got the Monkey Woman in S, which was way too big (5'4", 110 lb). The sleeves were too long, and it was generally baggy in the shoulders and chest. So the jacket is wonderful, but I must return it. I'd buy this jacket again in XS, but unfortunately Ruby is gone.

Mountain Hardware Monkey jacket
December 27, 2012

Received this for Christmas. Feel is very soft and comfortable with a great fit. It is super warm for its weight. It has a high collar which almost eliminates the need for a neck gaiter. The pockets are very versatile and generous. There is no hem cinch cord which is the only drawback. However, the cuffs and hem are made of a stretch material which provides good closure. The insulating fabric is Polartec Thermal Pro which is top of the line for warmth/weight ratio. Overall, this is an excellent jacket for the price.
