Pretty Solid Down Jacket
January 04, 2012

Firstly, let me say that I spent quite some time looking into various down jackets. Among these were The North Face Thunder Down Jacket, Patagonia Down Sweater, and Mountain Hardwear Phantom Jacket. For the specs, features, and preferred cut, I believe this to be the best purchase for the price. THE GOOD The jacket is EXTREMELY lightweight and compressible and YET surprisingly very warm. So far I have used it alone, used it with a light fleece underneath, and also used it as my insulation layer. Depending on the weather, it definitely served its purpose. Though it is not a rain jacket, it withstood an unexpected down pour. The added DWR is definitely a never know when you will get a few sprinkles. For those of you with longer arms and broader shoulders, this jacket is perfect. I have found that other down jackets short change me on the arm lengths. The center back length of this jacket is also a bit longer than most down jackets, which is also good and helps keep the cold wind from creeping inside. (FYI- I am about 5' 6" , 140 lbs, torso length of 16") There is also a pretty decently sized pocket (without a zipper) on the interior of the jacket which proved to be quite useful. THE BAD So far my only complaints are the feathers from time to time sneaking out (which I am sure is common to all down jackets). The zipper is a bit sticky at times, which could just be a manufacturer defect. Lastly, I think that I could have used one more pocket. BRIEF COMPARISON TO MOUNTAIN HARDWEAR PHANTOM JACKET: Nitrous is way lighter, less puffy, a bit less warm, has less pockets, and different horizontal stitching pattern (as opposed to the squared design of Phantom). Both are light weight, compressible, and keep you warm. It just depends on how warm you want to be. I borrowed my friend's Phantom jacket prior to this purchase and found that I got too hot.

Fantastic Jacket!

Made the purchase for my daughter after she saw how much my wife and I love ours, making this is the third Nitrous Jacket I have purchased. Great performance, fit and styling!

Great buy
November 03, 2011

I bought this jacket for autumn weather in northern Europe, around 40-55 F, and it is perfect. It is almost waterproof and also surprisingly windproof. I usually wear a size 6, and M fits perfect, with a nice silhuette unlike most down jackets.

Excellent for the purpose
April 30, 2012

I ordered this jacket for my Wife to be a light weight, warm, backpacking jacket. The fit was excellent and the warmth to weight ratio is good. The color is true to what it looked like on our computer. As soon as we received the jacket, some oil was spilled on it. The stain cleaned out with no problem. We are very happy with the quality, fit, and durability (so far). We have had the jacket for a couple of months.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

Warm for the weight, and stylish too!
January 04, 2010

I'm in a wheeelchair, so it's important not to be bogged down with bulk at the arms where I need to push. Super light, almost too light if you don't wear other serious layers underneath. But over all, very warm, stylish, with a nice feminine fit.

Bought this for an 8 day backpacking expedition in the Sierra Nevada range. Had an unexpected snow storm in Oct and camped and hiked in snow for five days. I was never cold. It's amazing that this tiny lightweiight jacket could pack into such a tiny space and add so much warmth. Love it. Wont' every backpack without it.

Grey color too light/detail stitch too large
January 08, 2011

I LOVE this jacket for its fit, design, and comfort. The small fit true to size and is cozy comfy with just enough sheen in the fabric. But, I ordered the light silver grey color and the detail stitching is distracting in the black thread. I was hoping for feminine feature on the shoulder, but the design is such large scale, it looks more like a geometric lesson in shapes than a pretty touch. I'll be sending it back and replacing it with the black jacket which appears to boast a matched thread color. The item could also be improved by a zipper pocket, I don't want to lose my phone on the trail!

Great jacket. Even though I live in Las Vegas, it does have all kinds of weather. This Jacket performs well in every condition that this city and surrounding areas have to offer.

compare with Patagonia Women's Down Sweater
January 24, 2012

Patagonia Women's Down Sweater is warmer then Nitrous Jacket . But Nitrous Jacket is much more dressy, fit in arm and waist. I will wear this one more often. The zipper is sticky as other review say. Otherwise this is a perfect jacket for me.

Good stuffable light-duty jacket
April 25, 2012

This is a cool, not cold-weather jacket. Works fine for chilly coastal mornings in the 40s-50s, don't know that I'd rely on it to be sufficient in 30-degree temps in the big mountains though. The cut is very tight around the armpits, and it's cut small which is how Mountain Hardwear does it it. Lacks a good way to stuff the jacket into a pocket though. I can sort of stuff it into one of its own pockets, but the fit is really tight and not confident that zipper will hold it over the long haul. Haven't tested durability/rippability yet, so can't speak to that. Seems to have some windproofness, but also haven't tested that in extremes - just urban jaunts so far.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, lightweight, Cons: tight cut may limit arm motion

liked it
January 06, 2011

I found this jacket to fit a little small.. I'm 5'4, 125lbs and the small was really tight around the hips on me.. and my hips are average I would say. So, I went with the Med, but the arms are quite long. I can roll them up with out it really being noticed because of the design. I initially bought the gray but I felt it was too light, so I'm going to exchange it for the black. I also have a bit of the "Michelin Man" shoulders, but I'm hoping with the black it won't be so noticeable. Really nice jacket though... extremely light and comfortable!

Girlfriend loves it!
February 15, 2012

I bought this jacket for my GF when we go backpacking because of its ability to compact. She has yet to be cold in it! The loft is great its not too big, and the fit is exactly how a womens jacket should fit. However, it does not come with a stuff sack, and I am not sure if it is supposed to pack into one of the pockets but it does with little force. She is about 5'6" and 120lbs and I got her the small and it fits very well. The only gripe that I have is that the pockets are not lined with anything. She says her hands don't get cold but micro fleece in there would be nice. Also the old jackets did not have zippers on the pockets, the new ones do. If you order here you will get a new jacket with zippers.

Amazing Jacket
February 16, 2012

I love this jacket. It's super light, warm and comfortable. I'm 5'9" and have long arms. I always have a hard time finding jackets with long enough arms...the nitrous is perfect! It does have a little extra room around the mid section, but it's perfect for when it's extra cold and I have to wear a sweater or hoodie under it. The jacket seems to cut the wind chill too! I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Warm, soft, cool stitching. Poor fit. XS too small. S too big. Chest all bulky, sleeves narrow.

Love the look!
November 27, 2012

I absolutely love the color. Black coats seem to be everywhere but I stand out in a crowd and the weight is perfect. I've worn it on a hike when it was in the mid 30s and I was extremely comfortable. I need not expound on Mountain Hardwear's quality. I'm never disappointed.

Pros: Great design, Great value

Very Warm Lightweigth Jacket
January 05, 2010

I bought this jacket as a Christmas gift for my wife. She loves the feel, the fit and the warmth of this jacket. She wore it in 18 degree weather with just a light sweater underneath and was warm all day. I am thinking of buying the men's version for myself.

Really nice, lightweight, and warm
December 17, 2009

I really like the look and feel of this jacket. Not bulky at all. Very lightweight and roomy enough to wear a thicker shirt underneath. Very flattering to a woman's figure.

Lightweight, warm, fashionable
January 03, 2010

This is a great down jacket. It is very soft and light. The color (bronze) is stylish and the fit doesn't make me feel like the michelin man. I also like the way it is a bit longer in back for warmth and flattering style.

Really nice, lightweight down jacket
December 04, 2009

I really like the look and design of this jacket. The fabric is shiny, but the microgrid patterns gives it some texture so it doesn't look cheap. For being such a lightweight jacket, it is very warm due to the high fill content. The cut and stitching of the jacket are also very flattering.

so light, so warm
October 26, 2009

Construction is beautiful and fits to a T. Sleeve edges are weird - but I do understand how they will work to keep the cold air from going up my arms. Very light weight and will keep me toastie!

Best packable shell
February 07, 2012

I was expecting an athletic fit, snug, and a bit constricting. But The jacket fits a true large. Not constricting in any direction. It looks wonderful and along with base layers is warm even with minimum activity in temperatures in the twenties and wind at 15 mph. What seperates this from other jackets is its light weight and compressability, great for backpacking and wearing around camp.

January 08, 2010

this jacket is my new favotite! I ordered a small (i'm 5'6 and 124 lbs) and it fits perfect. The jacket is more like a sweater (lightweight). I plan on purchasing another color as well, that's how much i like it! Well done Mountain Hardwear and thanks, Altrec for great products!

This is a beautiful jacket stylish, yet warm and comfy . I found this to be much better fit than the Patagonia jackets. I am 5'5 and 130 lbs , M fit perfectly with room for sweater or fleece underneath . Highly recommend !

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

great jacket! true to size.

light & Pretty
June 21, 2011

I bought the jacket in size large for my 72 years old mom for her birthday gift and she hasn't seen it yet. But, it is super light, not bulky or puffy, warm, and pretty. The sleeves are long for Pettite people so I have to roll them up twice, but the cuffs blend in very well as they are part of the sleeves. I like it so much I'm gonna order one for myself.

GREAT Jacket!!
February 02, 2012

I have been looking for a warm, light and tailored jacket for layering and wearing on warmer Michigan winter days! This is it. It fits perfect and the styling details are amazing. I ordered an XS and it was a perfect fit. I am 5'3' tall and weigh 115 pounds. The length is a little longer than most of the jackets I have tried and keeps the wind from hitting at the waist! The sleeve length is long, but not too long. I would highly recommend this jacket. Best purchase of the season!!

Nice look and fit
February 22, 2010

I purchased this jacket as I liked that it had a unique look. I loved it except for the pockets had no closures, so I had to return it as that will not work for me.

Love the jacket
January 10, 2011

When first took the jacket out of the bag was surprised at how light it is but after wearing it in the snow was thoroughly impressed by how warm it is and how well it worked playing in the snow. It is also quite stylish. Definitely a thumbs up!!

Practical Yet Attractive
February 15, 2012

The Mountain Hardware Nitrous Jacket is warm, light, and very attractive all rolled into one very cool jacket. It will take you from the slopes to the streets of New York....all in style. And for travel, it can not be is light, packs easily, and gets great attention when you wear it anywhere. In just a few days, I have worn mine regularly...and you will too!

Slightly small
February 15, 2012

I purchased this jacket to try to find the right down jacket for winter. I really liked the color and features of this jacket, but had to return it because it was too tight for me in the shoulder area. I am about 125 lb and 5'5" tall and had ordered a size small. This is a typical problem for me of a lot of jackets. It fit really well everywhere else, so I felt that a size medium would be too big, particularly too long in the waist. I ended up getting the Patagonia Sweater, size small. It is a bit shorter in the waist than I'd like, but it fits so well everywhere else, that I had to keep it.

October 25, 2010

I love this jacket. It is stylish as well as functional. I would recommend this to anyone. Runs true to size. A little pricey but worth the cost.

December 27, 2010

Purchased it for my wife. She is tall with long arms and this coat fit perfectly. The color and shape are fantastic and the warmth for the weight is terrific.

February 07, 2010

I'm a down junkie. For the past 3 years my favorite has been a Mountain Hardwear Voodoo Belay Conduit SL jacket. I wanted something more streamlined with no hood, but just as warm that I could wear riding my motorcycle and hiking. This is perfect; plus I got red for visibility. Super light, super warm. I wish I could afford one in every color! The fit is perfect; glad I got a small. Excellent packability.

Sleek Fitted Down Jacket
May 31, 2010

This jacket runs true to size and hugs your curves to give you more shape than the average down jacket. The material has a nice sheen to it and the jacket is extremely light weight for being so warm. The pattern stitched into the shoulder area of the jacket adds interest and makes the jacket appropriate for casual as well as outdoor wear.

Very flattering, warm, and extremely lightweight,
December 26, 2009

Bought this for my wife, and she loves it. Very flattering and warm. My wife is 5'6" and 117 lbs so I bought her xs. It fits great, however; she is returning it for a small because she wants to use layers underneath. Only negative, no interior pockets.

extremely lightweight, feminine fit, overall I really like it!
October 30, 2009

It is stylish for a down jacket, lightweight, and great for travel. The fit is good. Only one complaint - no internal pocket. Would be nice to have one for keys, etc.

January 30, 2010

I have had two of these jackets for several months. They are lightweight, feminine and fit well.Great for cool summer evenings or mild winter days. Easy to stuff in small space when traveling.

Fabulous jacket!!
May 25, 2010

I absolutely LOVE my Mountain Hardwear jacket!! I have never worn it yet without someone commenting on how great it looks! It is so warm and light weight, it can't be beat!!

great styling
June 28, 2011

I am a petite 6 and I currently own an XS of this jacket. It is one of my favorite jackets for its styling and versatility. When worn with a simple top underneath, the jacket is exceptionally flattering for a down jacket. It is snug and almost looks like a leather jacket from afar. I wanted to be able to wear a light sweater underneath during winter time so I decided to order another one in a bigger size (size S). I was surprised to see the big difference between XS and S. While the XS is cut too tight especially around the bust area, the small is cut far too big and fits more like a medium with sleeves that are at least 1 1/2" longer. The cut is also more straight making the arms puff up even more (Michellin man). The new jacket I ordered is so unflattering that I decided to return it to the merchant.

light, warm and fashionable
January 21, 2010

only had for two weeks, but have enjoyed the comfort and warmth coupled with its very light weight
