this jacket is "IT"
I have been shopping around for a 800-fill down jacket that has both a flattering cut for a woman's figure and has enough articulation-allowance for a full range of movement for alpine climbing, and I am very satisfied with the Phantom!! The fabric is very light (but tightly woven enough to hold those heavenly 800-fill down in!) and very "quiet" when you move around - I find noisy shell fabrics hugely annoying in insulated jackets, and it is the fine point that really distinguishes the level of craftsmanship and attention to details between lesser brands and a technical driven brand like Mountain Hardware.
I also like the fact the included stuff sack is made in the same material of the shell fabric (instead of the generic black nylon mesh you get sometimes). Not only it's color-coordinated to the jacket (cute!) but the smooth-hand of the material makes stuffing the jacket into its stuff sack a breeze.

Great Jacket
This jacket is not as puffy as I expected, but I'm very pleased with it and am going to keep it anyway. I plan to use it for winter days and for backpacking. I haven't been able to test the jacket in frigid temperatures yet, but it feels very warm and is very lightweight. I ordered a small and I will have plenty of room for a sweater underneath if needed. It fits great--I'm 5'4" and it's the perfect length. It is a little roomy in the chest, but doesn't look bulky. I probably should return it and get a puffier jacket for CO winters but I just can't give it up! Very happy with this purchase, especially for the deal I got on it!

Lov it!
Most lite weight, comfortable down jacket I have ever owned! I would highly recommend this to anyone who want's warmth in an instant! I would have one in every color if I could!

Best Purchase
Comfortable and warm. For a goose collar enough and cozy, covering the body.
However, folds (outer seam) to have goose fuzz with the dust. (slightly)
Eventually it is satisfied. I think a good product to buy.

Versatile, Hot and Cozy
This is a great jacket...lightweight, not too puffy looking like some of the others, sporty, cute and fashionable all at the same time. This jacket can be worn casually or dressy. It is super warm!!! Great buy!

Great down jacket!
I just got my Mountain Hardware Phantom jacket in time for the first snowy weather of the season. I am 5 foot 4 and ordered the medium jacket. The arms were a bit long but the adjustable cuffs did the trick. It is very lightweight and the fabric is soft and comfortable. I will be bringing this jacket with me to Iceland next month as it packs into the compact pouch that comes with the jacket. I plan on getting a lot of use from this jacket this winter. The delivery was super fast and ordering was very easy.

gorgeous
I have been looking at high down fill light jackets and had been bothered by the marshmallow look they all seem to have. Theres really no way to get away from that without sacrificing warmth. This jacket is not only really warm, but has a nice fit and seaming. While it fits a bit large, it leaves plenty of space for underlayers. I got it in the berry color and it is gorgeous! Great deal and like it better than the patagonia one I was looking at. Big fan of Mountain hardware (as I sit in my MH shorts)!

Great Jacke
This jacket is incredibably warm, packs down very small. I can stuff it in any pocket on my backpack. The cut is also very flattering, tailor cut to fit a woman.

Going to Sweden
I needed a very packable warm jacket for a spring trip to Sweden. This coat has the loft and warmth to stand up the waterfront cold of Stockholm and I can smush into my backpack. Days will be warm, afternoon and nights cold so this is just perfect for changing conditions.
I'll also wear it for warmer wintery days in NH. I have a much warmer coat for cold cold days but this is good sort of cold coat. I run very cold and need super down for warmth.
The fit is comfortable and I actually wore it one very cold night in our house when I just could not get rid of a snowshoe chill!

Phantastic Phantom
After moving to Alaska from Texas on military orders I have never been warm. Since purchasing this jacket, I'm not cold! I would say it is worth it's weight in gold, but weighs next to nothing. It is comfortable and stylish. I usually order a size up due to broad shoulders, but this fits without appearing bulky. Wore it to the ski slopes and it was perfect. Cannot wait to take it hiking - it comes with a small bag to pack or carry at waist.

Lightweight but strange cut
I was really excited about the weight and color of this jacket. It seemed perfect, but when I tried it on it was strangely large in the chest, exceptionally long, but tight in the hip area. It doesn't seem to be cut in proportion. It was, however, very light, warm and comfortable. I'm disappointed because I've been looking for a lighter down jacket to layer for snowshoeing, but I need to return this one.
I usually really love Mtn. Hardware products, so would continue to buy their brand.

Still great!
I have wanted to buy this jacket for several years. It's just that my old Marmot down seater won't give up the ghost...and still hasn't! But I broke down and I'm so glad I did. The fit is perfect for me...I'm always a women's medium. The sleeves are just slightly long but easily adjustable, the shoulders have a great cut...great freedom of movement without appearing bulky. I love all of the pockets...especially the inside ones. If I can't put things in the pockets, the items just don't go with me. I also appreciate the high collar for those windy days. I was a little disappointed in the loft, but after a week of hanging in a closet it has filled out nicely. It is very compact and will pack nicely in even a large daypack. It was a great choice for me, and I hope I keep it as long as my Marmot down sweater,

Two thumbs up!
I am a Southern Californian girl who moved to Ohio for work and was completely unprepared for the weather change. I am so glad I decided to go with the Mountain Hardware Phantom to help me get through the winter. It is incredibly warm, light weight, and not bulky at all. I am 5'4, about 118 lbs, and the small fits me perfectly. I am definitely pleased with my purchase and will buy Mountain Hardware products from Altrec again! Thanks for the quick delivery!

Strange fit!
I ordered a large because I wanted the jacket to be a bit roomy and fit over my fleece jacket. The sleeves turned out to be very long and when I used the tabs to shorten them, they became puffy around the wrists!

stylish, warm as hell
got this for my wife. dig the color. Not quite a puffy as the Sub zero, less down. Like everyone says, shes always cold and was able to go outside in a long sleeve t and was toasty. she looks good too in it got a smoking deal thru altrec too, shipped fast.

great down jacket
Simple, warm and well made jacket. Exactly what I need for back country XC ski trip -- light enough to stuff in a day pack , but really warn and has lots of pockets.

Great all around
I am always cold and heavier jackets make my shoulders hurt if I wear them too long. This jacket keeps me warm and is extremely light so I can wear it all day. I wish I had gloves, pants, and shoes that are light, trendy, and warm.

Wife loves it.
My wife is always cold, even when its 90 degrees out. Got her the Phantom for camping and backpacking. Now she wears it year round. A great piece to have in your "quiver" of jackets aka the closet.

Red Onion Phantom Jacket
I am so thrilled with the MH ladies jacket I ordered ! The jacket is fantastic, light and comes with a teeny stuff bag. The delivery time was oh so fast and perfectly packed ! My jacket is going to be well tested for warmth as I will wear it on a trek to the Mt. Everest base camp. Thank you !

Love this jacket
This jacket totally rocks. Does a great job keeping me warm. We had some seriously cold weather at -15 air temp and i was nice and cozy on my 2 hour hike with just long underwear and sweater with the jacket. Only drawback the jacket does not have a hood.

Best coat ever!
I am one of those 'always cold' women and this coat does the trick--keeps me warm. It is so lightweight, I am so excited to go outside now. I only wish they made a similar product for my legs, HA!

Well worth the money
I bought this jacket for my mom who's in her 60's. Not only does this jacket keep her warm but she looks hip in it too. Plus it's so light, it doesn't weigh her down. She loves it. All of her friends want to know where they can get one too.

Light, stylish and lofty
Got this jacket for backpacking in the Sierras, so the light weight was important. It weighs in at its claimed 13 ounces - pretty good for a full fledged down jacket. Took it on a visit to my mother in Sweden where we had rain, hail and snow. I stayed warm and dry, and the jacket dried off quickly once I got inside. My mother likes it so much, now I think I'll have to buy her one. One caveat, I normally take a size small, but the size 6 was a little short in the sleaves and the body so Altrec let me return it for a size 8. Great jacket and great service from Altrec.

Warm, super-light, and cute!
I bought this partly for upcoming backpacking trips and partly just to wear around town. So far I haven't been backpacking in it, but it's great for every day use. I love the soft, lined pockets. And it's just ridiculously light. Our cold snap is over, but it feels like it will be more than adequate for the chilliest weather Washington DC dishes out (which I admit is not THAT cold!).

Super warm and super light.
Great mountaineering jacket. Low profile and incredibly light for it's warmth.

Perfect!
I cannot imagine how survived without this jacket. It is incredibly warm but also unbelievably light. It is great for wearing around town (very stylish and the clever inside-the-jacket waist draw-cord allows you to nip it in for a more fitted look) or zipped up on a hike. Everyone has loved the jacket so much two friends bought the same one in the last month! If you are looking for a down jacket - look no farther.

Incredible!!
As a wildlife and nature photographer I often spend 8 hours straight in subzero weather, wind speeds at 20 MPH and higher. Much of this time is spent standing still rather than generating body heat with high activity. The Mountain Hardwear Phantom Jacket is the warmest jacket I have ever owned. The light weight and more importantly, uncumbering design makes it ideal. It packs down to nothing, great for the travelling photographer. The prompt and courteous service from Altrec.com made my purchase an enjoyable experience.

Super light
As advertised, this jacket has a great warmth to weight ratio. However, (this may be good or bad depending on your needs) there is a seam on the arms, near the underarm area, that the down tends to shift away from, resulting in cold spots. It's great if you want underarm ventilation, but not so good if it's really cold out. Otherwise, I am very happy with the lightness and compressibility of the jacket!

Bye bye graceless down jackets
If you don't want to feel like a colossal bumbling fool who can hardly bring their arms together in a down jacket than this jacket is the one. Not too bulky, packs into a small bag less than the length of your forearm and could provide enough warmth for Genghis Kahn. I bought this jacket for a backpacking trip around Mongolia in the winter (which can get to -40 degrees) and I couldn't be happier. I never thought I could buy an extremely warm jacket (800 down-fill is more than most on the market) without having the beefy massiveness down jackets often exhibit...but this coat really does it. Just amazing.

Very warm & cozy!
I like the fit, light weight and detailing.

Light and Looks Great
This is a fantastic down jacket. Its extremely lightweight - packs to nothing in the stuff sac that comes with the coat - unlike many other down jackets you don't look like the Michelin Man when you wear it! I'd even go as far as to say the style is flattering! Yes its expensive but in this case you have to pay for what you get.

Great cold weather jacket
Great cold weather jacket!! Excellent if weight is an issue in the backcountry. Packs down very small, and althetic fit and 800-fill keeps you warm.
October 28, 2004
Great, lightweight!
A great lightweight jacket that packs into its own small stuff sack. I took it on a winter Sierra backpacking trip. Kept me toasty and warm even with temps at 17 degrees.
