Lightweight beauty
September 19, 2011

Climbing Kilimanjaro soon and need a comfy cozy coat for mornings and evenings. Also, need to carry it during the day, so lightweight and packable is key. I'm so excited about this coat - it fits all my criteria, plus it's super cute and flattering. It will serve me well after the trek.

very comfortable jacket Excellent jacket. The hood adjusts quickly, the fabric is breathable, and the fit is great. I still can't figure out how to pack it, but I didn't buy it because I need a packable jacket. The fabric is soft and thin, so I don't know how durable it will be. I guess I will find out in the next few months. It does wrinkle a little bit after washing, but it's not bad.

Great warm coat!!!
March 21, 2011

I love this coat. It fits great I got the small and I am 5'4'' 110 lb. I had tried on an xs in a store and the sleeves were too short. It is fitted but not tight looking. The fleece around the neck is my favorite part, it is so soft! It is super warm even in a Montana winter. Highly recommended!

Great Jacket!
March 20, 2011

I searched over a dozen sites trying to find the best deal for a warm, woman's jacket and this was it. The jacket arrived on the estimated date and fit perfectly! I'm 4'11"/90 lbs and got the XS. My previous jacket ripped at the sleeve, so the arm reinforcements on this jacket were a big draw. The jacket is very warm! The fit is cute, not boxy. It looks fine alone or with a few layers underneath. The fleece at the neckline and in the pockets feels great. The drawstring at the bottom and the adjustable cuffs means that cold air can't get in anywhere. I wore it while riding a bike on a windy day and it has good wind protection. I didn't comment on it's durability only because I haven't had it long enough to, but it seems VERY sturdy. I am thrilled with this purchase and with Altrec! Mountain Hardware will be my new go to brand and Altrec, my new go to site.

Comfy Jacket
March 16, 2011

The fleece lined pockets and neck are very soft. The jacket has not stopped leaking feathers since I got it last week, but I am hopeful it will stop soon! At the bottom drawstrings, feathers come out when I adjust them. However, I love how soft and warm this jacket is (it has kept me warm in 30F weather) The XS is tight on me (5'0" tall and 115 lbs), but since they don't offer petite sizing, I think it's the best I will do.

Everest level expectations, Got Mt McKinley level
March 11, 2011

I LOVE my other mountain hardware jacket, but where I am going is not warm enough for it. I bought this one sight unseen just figuring it would be like my other one but warmer (which ordinarily I would never do). I bought it in medium. It sits about hip bone level on me for length. The fit is a little big for a medium (but with layering you kinda want that). Sleeves run small (but I'm a 6 ft tall woman, however they are smaller than previously mentioned jacket). There was some down coming out of the seams upon arrival. The neck is kinda weird and should either be open more or closer to your body. Might be so that a scarf can fit inside the coat. I have not tested the waterproofness, but it is definitely warm. I would buy it again, but it didn't quite live up to expectations. If you are picky about necklines, you may want to try it on.

Pros: Ease of use, Great value, warm!

Runs larger than the MH Lodown
March 07, 2011

I have the MH Lodown Jacket which I love but it is not windproof. So I ordered the Subzero in the same size Medium. The Sub runs quite a bit larger than the Lodown, much much roomier. The Medium in the Lodown is nice and roomy on me but I am not swimming in it as I am with the Sub. I am 5'3" and 125 lbs and am returning for a size small. The quality seems great on this Jacket though.

Exceeded Expectations
December 15, 2010

This coat is fantastic. I live in Iowa, it gets cold here, and in a hurry! I recieved this coat about 2 weeks ago and wanted to wait to review it until I had a chance to test it out. It is currently December in Iowa which means temperature consistently below 20f, often in the single digits. The fleece lined pockets and collar are a god send in weather like this. The water bottle pocket is also great (I stick my coffee thermos in there on morning walks to campus for extra warmth!)! The drawstring hem is awesome, though it does tend to creep up just a bit. I am 5'4" and about 99lbs, I ordered an extra small and it fits great with just enough room for me to wear a hoodie or bigger sweater underneath just in case. The coat has plenty of pocket space (all pockets were deeper than expected) and a small closed hook for keys in the right pocket. It's a bit puffy, but not bulky, I can wear it shopping and not have to worry about bumping in to everything! This is truly a five star coat!

GREAT JACKET
December 09, 2010

I just received this jacket and am already loving it. Coming from Alaska, I have tried many jackets and this one is right up with the best. The fit is great--not too bulky and puffy and has some shape to it. I like the soft fleece around the neck. So far, so good!

Toasty warm
November 11, 2010

I have a 2-hour commute that involves 30 minutes of bicycling to the nearest train station, then 3 different trains/subways. I wanted something to keep me warm enough during the bike ride that was light and easy to carry around when I take the jacket off during the train connections. This is really an ideal jacket for that. Until now I always just put up with being cold, but no more. This jacket will keep you really warm and is worth the investment. I expect it to last for years and years.

We love these jackets. I have my original, but I have purchased two for my hubby - one to replace his old work jacket and one for good. Multiple pockets are great, esp the front left chest pocket. They keep you warm, but are light.

March 16, 2010

I bought this jacket for my daughter to get warm after her Nordic skiing events. She loves it! I also have one. No one makes better cold weather gear than Mountain Hardwear.

very nice, but did not fit me.
January 09, 2010

shoulders and arms were roomy, but cut was much narrower in the hip that last year's version. I where a large in most other brands but this jacket does not fit. The fabric is very nice, with subtle texture.

This was for my wife and she absolutely loves it. She is always cold and and she finally said she was warm with this coat.

Great Jacket
March 25, 2009

I have this jacket and it is poofy. You'll look like a football player when you look in the mirror. But...it's very warm and durable. I love the durable fabric on the high wear areas.

kimberley cohen

Love the poof!
March 01, 2009

This jacket is poofy but within reason and incredibly soft. The sleeves are a bit long but I had to get a size big enough for my broader shoulders. Overall I love the jacket.

Great Warm Jacket
January 10, 2009

I had to send it back for a smaller size. THE JACKET RUNS BIG. Order a size smaller. It is very warm for Minnesota weather. It has been a cold winter here.

Mountain Hardware Sub-Zero
December 17, 2008

I live in Alaska and was looking for a warm jacket which packs easily and is durable. This jacket is all of those things! I'm a size 7/8 and am pretty fit and athletic. After reading the reviews I was hesitant to order the M because I have a long torso and long arms. But, I did and it fits perfectly. The arm length is great and I can still layer it with a fleece jacket if need be. The jacket is long enough, but not too long (it's NOT a parka, so if that is what you want, order a different jacket). Ordering from Altrec is easy and the jacket came in about 3 days from the day I ordered it...not bad for Alaska! I'm very pleased!
