Stylish!
I first ordered these pants in a size 6 but they were too snug. The size 8 is perfect, even with a pair of smart wool long underwear beneath them. I've even had a part of fleece under them and they still fit great. I love the drawstring in the lower legs and the velcro closure at the waist. These pants are stylish AND keep the snow out. Other than having to order a size larger than I normally wear, I'm very pleased. My husband has a pair and LOVES 'em! I haven't washed them yet so I can't speak to their durability.

great pant
I like mountain hardwear pants. They are ideal for hiking in winter and summer .They have a comfortable fit at the hip and waist because they can stretch .
The bottoms are a little wide but there are draw strings to reduce them for a better fit .The fabric looks durable and thicker than typical hiking pants.

Love Mountain Hardwear Pants
This is my fourth pair of Mountain Hardwear pants and just love them all. All have great fit (but they do run small, so I order one size larger) are very well made and are comfortable (while looking great). Waists that are adjustable and three different lengths available mean these pants are made to fit anyone. Designed for active outdoor wear, pockets are positioned for easy access (we are kayakers, so having pockets that can be accessed while sitting are a great advantage). Good, solid construction with quick-drying, breathable fabric makes these my "wonder pants." The winter wander pants repel water and have fleece lined side pockets. Note: if you are out in really chilly weather, you'll want a base layer underneath as these pants do not have extra lining.

Great pant for Winter outdoor activities
I am very pleased with this purchase; these will work great for any type of outdoor activities in the Winter, including hiking, x-country skiing, or just playing in the snow. The fit is very flattering/slimming (even for a pear-shaped woman), yet the stretch in the fabric makes them very comfortable and easy to move in. The waistband hits at, or just below, the natural waist, but that makes sense for this type of pant. The fabric is very durable and substantial without feeling heavy while wearing them. The "swishy-ness" factor (the sound that most nylon products make) is in the low-moderate range...an acceptable amount for me. As stated on the website, the size does run a bit small....if in doubt, or if you plan to layer underneath, then definitely size up. I wanted a longer inseam, so I purchased the 6 Long, which has an inseam of around 33 inches.

Super comfy!
I hope Mountain Hardware continues to make these pants because they are so comfy and fit very well. They fit a little larger but the adjustable waistband helps alot. I recommend these pants!

Great mid-season hiking pants
These pants have a comfortable fit at the hip and waist because they can stretch too. The fabric looks durable and thicker than typical hiking pants. The darker brown color makes it ideal for real hiking and summer glacier hiking.
The only drawback is that the bottoms are a little wide but there are draw strings to reduce them for a better fit around the boots.

Great Pants
I bought these pants for cross country skiing (and they are wonderful for that) but ended up loving them so much I wear them all the time. As a beginning cross country skiier I tend to fall from time to time and these pants kept me dry and the fabric still breathes well. The fit is great - I am short (5'4") and curvy but the short size fit me like a glove once I adjusted the waist with the built-in drawstring. I wear them around town quite a bit for running errands, etc. because they are so comfy and they wash up well. Overall, completely worth the money.

Best all around pants
These are the best all around pants. They are wrinkle free, look good and the comfort level is unsurpassed. Leave it to Mountain Hardwear to bring style and comfort to women's pants. They can be worn for kinds of activities, even everyday events. My favorite pants ever!!!! I actually put belt loops on them so I can wear a belt. It was very easy to. I used embroidery thread to fashion belt loops and they work just great.

Nice pants! But the petites are long, really long.
I love the pants but I will lose the drawcord on the ankles when I hem them because the petite/short are longer than the size chart says. I specifically bought them because they came in a petite length. The size 4 fit perfect everywhere except in the length, they are not 27" as the size chart said; they are 29". I am 5'1" and they are dragging on the ground, not safe to hike in, even when I tighten up the draw cord they are a little too long. I didn't feel the need to size up as recommended, I can easily wear a heavy base layer under these without being tight and I don't like my hiking pants to be skin tight. I don't think it mentions in the specifics but there is a internal drawcord in the waistband of these pants if you need to tighten them.
That being said they feel wonderful, move well and look great, otherwise I'd send them back.
Anyone know of a company that really makes hiking pants in petite lengths?? Most of the time I can't find them, or they are "sold out".

a veryfine pair of pants
The Mountain Hardware Winter Wander pants are ideal for active and casual wear. The fabric is structured and stretchy, so they're flattering as well. True to size, given that technical clothing doesn't bother with vanity sizing: I'm 5'5, 125 lbs, swing between a 4 and a 6, and the 6 fits well. The pockets are lined with this wonderfully soft fleece, leg and backside cargo pockets have capacity without bulk.

I'm trying to get the correct size. The reviews said that the pant ran big so I started out with an 8, then a 6, and now I'm going to order a 4. I usally wear a 6 or 4. I really like the pant and I can't wait to get one to fit me right. I think it will be perfect for my outdoor pursuits.

Great Fit, Great Pants
I'm 5'6", 135# and have thicker hips and thighs (from mountain biking), and a smaller waste. I have problems finding pants because they either fit my waste or fit my legs. These do both! I ordered a Medium and these pants fit perfectly! They fit like a great pair of pants should. They have a lower waste and are quite flattering too.
For a little more warmth, they're also great to wear with a thin base layer for snow hiking. Great pants!

Had to exchange
At 5'4" and 135 pounds, the size 10's were too big for me. I returned them to exchange for a size 8 which has not yet been received. The fabric and cut seemed warm and comfortable. I wish the beautiful espresso brown color was still available when I reordered, but it was not and I had to settle for a silver-gray in the new size. I do appreciate that this pant is available in petite sizes.

winter wander pants
the first pants I purchased was the black pants in a size 4. fits perfect, looks quite good on. I am 5'6'' about 124 lbs. but maybe, I was Expecting a little too much from the pants. I decided to wear them on my vacation to canada without wearing any extra layer of leggings underneath and the wind just blew right through the pants.
anyway, came home and they went on sale. so I decided to buy
another one in the other color but went up to size 6 so that i can wear extra leggings underneath.

Perfect for hiking and walking in Seattle
I am 5'10" and sometimes hit 170 lbs, and I ordered these in 12 Tall. They fit perfectly. The waist is generous and slightly loose on me, but comfortable-not falling down. The length is perfect - all the way to floor but not dragging; perfect with any hiking shoe or boot. The hip pockets are so soft and warm inside and I don't think they add to hip width - I have athletic build, curvy hips, and I think they look great! A little swishy, but perfect for moist weather. I'm wearing them now in 40 degree rain, and they keep the chill out. If I drop a few pounds, the waist may be a little loose, but I can add a belt or go down a size. They are not snug or small fitting at all. I love them.

Fantastic for the wet weather!!
I was looking for a product that would allow me to run in the coldest winter weather. Now I'm wearing this outer layer. I'd hoped that it had some insulation, but it keeps me dry and allows breathability as well. So if it's snowing or raining, this is perfect. My sense is that these would take me through a summer in Ireland (where I spend a lot of time and where it is often very wet) as well as the colder winters here in the US. I found the sizing to be just right--and they are very comfortable (I've even worn them around the house to give them a "comfort test"). So I would recommend. Mountain Hardware is a great product!

Very Comfortable!
I'm always reluctant to purchase pants online without trying them on, but I saw some reviews and decided to take a chance and I'm glad I did! These pants are great! The fit is very comfortable and there's plenty of room to move and the trail.

4.5 stars for the winter wander pant
Very pleased with MH's Winter Wander pant. I find the fit to be true to size, at least with regard to other MH pant styles. I'm 5'6" 125 lb and wear a 6 L in MH pants, and the 6 L in this style fits me perfectly (can I just say thank goodness for no waist gape?!). I think the recommendation for these pants is to size up for layering, and if I were going to wear a thick baselayer, I'd probably do that, but worn alone or with a thin layer, the fit is normal, just right. These pants are quite warm and insulating, at least in our central Calif mountain chill (not unlike the drippy PNW in winter), and they just plain feel good on my legs! A couple of design notes: the white bolt logo has been replaced by one matching the color of the pants (black or brown, etc.), which I like...I don't need to look like any more of a walking Mountain Hardwear advertisement, if you know what I mean! The reason for 4.5 instead of 5 stars is the velcro & hook fastener at the waistband--not only does it make the corner of the fly poke out weirdly into my shirt, it's fumbly--just put a darn snap on it like the Sajama pant and call it good! Overall, great pant!

Winter Wander Comfort
These are great all-round pants. Super comfortable, lovely warm deep pockets and a good fit. I am 5'9" and look for long pants so these are great.
My only complaint is that they are not warmer. The name give you the sense that the pants will keep you warm. They give you some protection but not enough to be out in freezing wind without thermals underneath. I wear them all the time in the house though, and they are perfect. Also, they repel rain and don't get dirty.

Warm hiking pants
These pants provide warmth without bulk and can be worn with or without long underwear. They are even cute enough to wear about town. They run a bit small but I am a size 4 and they work perfectly. Lots of pockets and are tight enough at the bottom to keep out snow.

Great Find
I am generally reluctant to buy pants on line because I wear a tall and most tall clothing tend run too large everywhere else. I am 5' 8" and 140 lbs I bought a size 8 tall and they fit just a bit loose with just enough room for an under layer but not too big to wear alone. I was pleasantly surprised by the awesome fit, length and quality of these pants. I train dogs in all types of weather and need pants that are durable, comfortable, water and dirt resistant, warm and cute! I have recommended them to all my dog training friends.

Great Pants
Love these pants. They fit very well - I am tall and curvy. They are long enough and have just the right amount of stretch so they fit fine alone but I can also put long underwear on with no problem.

Great pants!
I live in RI and go on long hikes w/my dog and wanted pants that will stand up to the ridiculous ever changing weather conditions yet can be worn out around town so I don't have to change after. These fit the bill! They do however, run smaller than other Mountain Hardwear pants.I ordered my usual sz 4-same size as the Yuma Convertible pants I own, and the W.Wander pants were much smaller(unwearable even without any baselayer).I ended up getting a size 6-afraid they might be too big- but they were perfect. The only things I wish these pants had is belt loops and straighter legs. They're a nice heavier weight material with wind and water resistance.I do have to wear a baselayer under in cold weather, but I expected that. That way they're great, versatile, 3 season pants. Oh, and I like the pockets!- I don't find any of the pockets awkward as some other reviews stated.

Mountain Hardwear does it again!
Love these pants! The fabric is durable, stretchy and super comfortable. I haven't tested them in the snow yet but I have no doubt they will live up to Mountain Hardwear's proven quality. These pants are great to wear around town too.

awesome
with room enough to wear long underwear. very flattering. I ordered every color!

Pockets ruin these pants.
I loved the fabric of these pants. However the look of the pants suffers with the wide pockets which go around the thigh...awkward gap. What a shame. Is there another Mountain Hardwear pant with this fabric?
May 18, 2010
I loved the pants, but they run big!
I really liked these pants for winter outdoor activities, but I was unable to find a size 6 short, so I tried the size 8 and they run large. Very comfortable stretchy fabric and the short length was the perfect length, I am 5"2.

Great winter pants
Great pants for cross country skiing. I did go a size bigger because I wear long underwear but I didn't have too. The pants are comfortable around the waist. Can't wait to use them again next year !

The Best!
Sounds crazy but I wear these pants (two pairs now) skiing, around town, and to work (I work in a public interest law firm). They are very versatile and they fit great!

great fitting pants! i love the look and feel, will probably wear them lots!

Softshell thinner than expected
The MH Winter Wanderer pants are of great quality, stitching, drawcords, pockets and zippers all functional and well constructed. However, found these pants to be thinner than Swix or AFRC XC-Ski pants. Skied in these twice in 15 - 20F temperatures but had to wear expedition weight baselayer. Noticed a slight chill during my 15km outings. Typically wear light weight base layer with the other pants. Also, I upsized as indicated in other posts but find them to be roomy then I like. Usually wear a size 6 and size 8 is loose even with the heavier base layer.

MH Winter Wander pants
Unfortunately, I couldn't find the right size in these and returned them. Loved the longer length option and from what I saw, they looked and felt comfortable. I didn't care for the open front pockets or the way they wrapped around to the side of my waist. I would have preferred zip closures on the pockets. Overall, okay pants in terms of looks but can't comment on how they stood up to weather or cold temps.

Very Comfortable
Great pants for cross-country skiing or wearing around town. These pants are very comfortable and warm. The fabric repels the water. I would order one size larger as they do run a bit small.

Very pleased
Finally a great fitting and polished looking pair of pants in my size AND length(and budget). Rivals all high-end European brands. Get them while you can!

Awesome! Good looks, great fit, loaded with features.
I don't have anything bad to say about these pants, they're great for early morning snowshoe trips. They fit great.
November 16, 2009
great fit
I ordered the size 8 L. The length is perfect. I do a 4km hike daily with my dog,in rainy BC.I love the way the fabric repels the rain and gives me the extra warmth I need.
November 12, 2009
Good deal
I live in Jackson, WY, so I wanted pants that I can wear during our colder summer nights or wet summer activities, but also wear on our warmer winter days, so i think these will be perfect. i would suggest a size larger than normal, which doesn't make them fit you perfectly in the groin area, but the waist feels fine and winter pants are never super flattering.

Travel pants
I love the fabric and these pants fit perfectly. I usually take size 4 but ordered these in 6 and they fit like a glove. Love the pockets which will hold small items. Plan to take to Yellowstone this month (June) in case we have colder days. All in all a perfect pair of pants for travel.

Great pants
I'm 5'8", 135# and bought a size 6 which fit perfectly. I bought both the black and espresso colors -- great additions to my wardrobe. Wore them in pouring rain over the weekend and they shed the rain and kept me warm and comfortable. Then they dried quickly when I got out of the rain. They are stylish enough that I wear them as casual pants, as well. I'm going to wear these on a mountaineering trip in June and I know they are going to work out great. Highly recommended.

Repel everything
I run agility with my Jack Russells, and they run up my legs to reach my arms. I need pants that look decent after being run upon by boisterous JRT's, and these pants fit the bill. I am not sure what the other reviewers meant about sizing up: I used to be a solid, athletic size 10, but with the crazy sizing changes going on out there, I am occasionally a 12, or more often, an 8. The size 10 fits me just fine - though the espresso color seems to run a little larger than the black, and I might try an 8 in that color. Be advised: I don't like to wear tight pants, but a size 10 leaves room for long undies while not leaving me looking like a bag lady without them.

The Best Cold Weather Pants
These hiking pants do it all. they block the wind, shed rain and snow and are warm and comfortable. I find the sizing to be right and a perfect fit. I recommend them to all my friends.
April 8, 2009
Best pants I've ever owned
Love them, love them! I bought 2 pairs in sz. 6 (I usually wear a 4) and they fit great. Took them to San Francisco, and they're stylish enough to wear around the city and on windy ferry rides. Took them hiking in Colorado, and they are warm and durable for rugged hiking. Wore them XC skiing, sight-seeing, and out on the town. They don't stain, never show any wear, and are so comfortable you could wear them to sleep in. Highly recommended, but go up one size.
July 17, 2008
perfect in-between pants
I had been searching for hiking pants that could be worn in New England when too cold for "zip off" style nylon pants and too warm for gortex ski pants. These pants fit the bill. They are very stretchy but keep their shape and have lots of useful pockets. The rise is just low enough to be stylish. However, as per a previous reviewer, you should order up 1 size from your usual pants size. The legs do seem a bit long for the petite wearer, though they are just right on me at 5'2" with hiking boots.
January 29, 2007
VERY COMFORTABLE FIT
These pants move with you and have lots of stretch for a very comfortable fit. They are a bell bottom style and do fit a bit long for someone who is petite sizing. They fit small, as I usually wear a size 4 pant and the 4 in these is too tight.
