durable pants
December 01, 2011

The Alpine Utility Pants are great pants. The material is heavy enough to be highly durable, but not so heavy that it impedes your movement or affects comfort. A couple features that add to the durability of the product are the reinforced heel cuffs and the triple stitching. The utility pocket on the thigh is also a nice feature and works well for a multi-tool or your cell. If you're trying to decide between these pants and the Original Mountain Pant the utility pocket is a feature to consider. I wish they had more color options and more inseam sizes, but if you're looking for a versatile pair of rugged pants with a traditional feel, these are the ones.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value

My new favorite pair of pants!
November 09, 2011

I have had these pants for close to a year. They are great pants for projects, activities, and anything that takes you outdoors. They are also sharp enough to sport on casual Friday at the office. Great sporty look and have had many complements on them. It is also easy to dress them up and wear them to the bar or for dinner out. As soon as you feel these pants you can tell that they are bulletproof. ALSO I love the pockets on these pants! The cut is great and makes it easy to keep small tools, a folding knife, or your keys in your pocket and get them out without struggling while you are in a sitting position.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value

Thick and durable
September 12, 2011

Awsome style! Good Quality. VERY THICK MAT'l. I'd rate these pants overall as a 8.5/10. The style is the major selling point, but i like the logic behind the areas that are reinforced. Its my first MK's ever and haven't worn them much yet, so best rating i can give at this point is 8.5.

Best pants for both office and outdoor !
March 31, 2011

Mountain Khaki Alpine Utility Pants are deep partner for my 5 days in office and 2 days weekend. I have 3 Alpine Utility Pants and 4 Original Mountain Pants. Especially Alpine Utility Pants have very tough material, plus double layer & Triple-Stitched Seams make long life as your partner. At office work, this pants are very relax fit and confortable to me, but don't look sloppy when you make a speach at conference room. If you use this pants for 5 years, you must be surprised that this pants have never changed the original shape and beautiful straight kneecap. My oldest one is almost 7 yrs old, but it still looks a fresh rookie ;)

Six pairs now and all still in great condition! Not one negative aspect, but consider ordering one waist size larger if you are on the border in sizes. The quality, construction, comfort and longevity second to none with Mountain Khakis. Worth every penny!

Quick Review
January 06, 2011

My waist size is 35/34. I have several pairs of these pants. I like their durability and feel but they are all cut large and tend to look baggy on slim people. They do not hold a crease and tend to wrinkle very easily but they are good for just knocking around.

Pros: Performance, Ease of use
Cons: wrinkle freely

Great HEAVY-duty pants
December 10, 2010

I've been eyeing this pair of pants for about 6 months....but waited until the Altrec CRM system noticed it was in my shopping cart and reminded me it was there (along with an incentive discount, which I imagine was part of the holiday season). Anyway, the pants are very HEAVY--the most canvas fabric I've ever lugged around on my body, mostly because of the thickness of the canvas and the double-layering around the waist, knees, and ankles. In other words, this pair of pants requires a belt. And I'm very happy to wear a belt with them because it's exactly what I wanted--rugged, strong and warm. It fits a little large, though, and the product description could be improved by noting that this is not a summer pant unless you're several thousand feet up the side of a mountain. For winter, they're terrific....couldn't be happier. Another way of looking at it is if you ever wanted a pair of light-colored leather motorcycle pants but didn't want to spend the money, these pants could act as a replacement.

Pros: Build quality
Cons: lots of fabric--heavy
Comfort: 5 / 5
Durability: 5 / 5
Quality: 5 / 5

Great Work Pants
December 05, 2010

These pants are intended to be put to the test. These aren't for a fashion statement. They are made from heavy material and have high quality workmanship along with being very soft and comfortable. They fit true to form and have a lot of room in the thighs and seat to allow for maiximum movement and comfort when working. These pants will outlast many of the other name brand denim work pants.

Comfort: 5 / 5

Epically Durable
October 05, 2010

Have had two pairs of these pants for about 3 years now and wore them pretty much every day. They have endured splitting, hauling and stacking about 20 cords of wood, daily all around abused, 4 biology field seasons in both swamps and Ecuador and anything else I could find to put them through to really get my 79 dollars a piece worth. Also I maybe washed them once a month which I hear degrades the material due to dirt rubbing around. In essence they withstood 3 years of ultra grubby living with only minor thread disrepair at the cuffs but have finally busted out at the crotch. The stitching is still totally intact, I just overstretched the material in Joshua Tree and they shredded. I am going to try and stitch them back up because I feel they have way more life left. In reality I'll buy another pair or two. They fit great, they sit up high on the waist which some people may not like but I think it keeps them from falling off while wearing a tool belt. Super soft and epically durable.

Best All Around Outdoor Pant Ever.
October 04, 2010

The title says it all. Seriously. No other pant even comes close to having the fit, comfort (and I mean real comfort), or durability of the MK Alpine Utility Pant. I wear these everywhere in Spring, Summer and early Fall in SE Alaska for everything from boating, hiking, camping, hunting and clam digging to working on the cabin and mowing the lawn. Hands down these pants are it. Period. Carharts and Dickies will run squealing for mommy next to these bad-boys.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value, seriously tough pants
Cons: there are none!

Quality product, but not a fan of the fit

The materials are top notch. They really are nice pants, but they are VERY baggy. I'm not a fan of the styling on them.

My Favorite Utility Pants
July 22, 2010

I love MK jeans and now I love their utility pants. They are super comfortable with a great fit and look. Too early to speak to durability, but I am impressed with the material and construction. Highly recommend the MK Alpine Utility Pants.

Really good quality pants
July 13, 2010

Love the quality of these pants. You can just tell that they're made really well and they fit well, too. I normally have a 34-35 fit for my waist and got my 35 granite alpine utility pants and they fit great. These look nice enough to go out to dinner but also will be used to hike, fish, camp, hunt, etc. I pretty much love anything and everything Mountain Khaki makes.

Bomber Pants
June 07, 2010

These pants are great: heavy duty, but buttery soft. Despite the softness, they are a bit stiff (almost architectural - like they'd stand up by themselves). This is partially offset by the super roomy legs. Fit is a bit different than any other pants I've tried. Huge legs, but slim/trim through the waist & hips. Maybe go one size larger than normal. Also: sizing varies by color, so order a bunch and send back whatever doesn't fit.

Hands down, best utility pants!
May 23, 2010

A bit pricey, but well worth it! These pants are heavy and durable, but they breathe really well.

Great pants!
April 22, 2010

Best pants I ever purchased. Very durable and fit nicely. They may be more expensive than other pants but they are well worth it. I purchased my regular size and even after many washings they still fit perfect.

Warm, good-looking and tough
March 14, 2010

These pants are great. They are warm, they fit true to size, and they are clearly tough. And super comfortable - the action gusset makes a difference. They do look a little like carhartts, but I have received compliments regardless.

These are the BOMB!
March 10, 2010

I have tried a lot of different trousers in Iraq and these are the best. Nice weight for durability without being too stiff or heavy. Cell phone pocket is perfect and the action gusset is a must. Stitching and good fit are a plus. I will get one in every color.

Awesome fit and function!
March 09, 2010

These pants are really well made. I found the fit was excellent after the first wash, I'm 6'2" 180lbs and bought 32"W x 34"L. I think the comments posted about "ran a little bit small" might be due in part to the robust nature of the fabric, which relaxed after the first wash. I'll definitely buy more MK products! A highly durable and great looking pant!

Great buy
February 17, 2010

These pants are an excellent purchase in all aspects. Fit and feel. Just got them so I can't say for sure on the durability, but they sure seem rugged enough.

good buy
February 06, 2010

Like the pants. Ran a little bit small, but overall they are good. I will purchase these again.

Really good quality pants
February 03, 2010

These pants were exactly as advertised. Rugged and stylish. As others have said, they run a bit small.

Quick, reliable , honest service. Recommend without reservation.

Great!
January 06, 2010

Absolutely what I was looking for. I wear a 34" waist typically but I really could go for a 35" and was quite pleased that these came in that size. Now I've got a bit more room. Felt fairly true to that size too. The 34" inseam is on the generous side. They're fine with shoes but walking around in the house they're dragging a bit. The material is wonderfully heavy duty yet butter soft. Love the gusseted crotch and the extra R hand pocket. MH has certainly gained a loyal customer. I hope they release the Alpine Utilities in more colors.

Great Pants
December 30, 2009

These pants can handle just about anything you would ever want to put them through. If i had only 1 pair of pants these would be them. The only thing is they really size small.

Tough to find the right size in these
December 15, 2009

I wear 38 32 in the regular mountain khakis, but the 38 and the 36 didn't fit the same as the non-utility version.(had to return both) Also beware the granite color, looks purple-ish in person.

Rugged with room to move
December 12, 2009

I usually wear a 34/34 (I like my pants a little long) and I bought a pair of these in 35/34 after reading that they were sized small. I ended up hemming the 34 length because they were too long. I bought a second pair of 35x32 and they were just right. These are replacing a pair of carharts that finally wore out. So far I am very pleased with the weight and fit. Go for it.

Hamilton's Boat Repair
December 10, 2009

Out of the box these are the best. Don't last as long as Carhartt's, but you don't have to break them in. Price is way to high, but if you are a gear geek like me you will always have a pair on hand. The 2 * review is for price, and the fact that they don't last.

Best pants I ever bought!
December 03, 2009

These pants are excellent in every way -- very rugged, great design, and 100% cotton. Perfect for challenging outdoor situations and well as less demanding uses.

Pricey but bombproof!
November 07, 2009

Finally bought a pair and glad I did. Love em! Fit fairly true to size, I wear a 32 and got 33's; fit great. just loose enough. Stitching is perfect, pocket layout is well thought out (I'm a big fan of the double front pockets). Excellent product!

Heavy Duty Workhorse Pants
October 07, 2009

The pants are true to fit and comfortable. They are a heavier material than I expected, but work great for the type of outdoor work that I do--. If you live where it is warmer, they could be too heavy for that climate, however. They are pricey, but worth the money when stacked up to quality and how much use I will be able to get out of them.

Michael Toal

Definitely Not you father's Carharts
April 01, 2009

So, being someone who basically lives in my Carharts, I saw these Alpine Utility pants, and thought they might be an interesting alternative. They are distinctly different than Carharts, in both positive, and negative ways. The pros: the fabric is MUCH softer than Carharts, although not as heavy weight. The Alpine Pants have a much more Khaki style look insofar as how they wear, and all in all, are very comfortable, with one noticeable exception: the " double Lining, in the Gusseted seat makes you wonder if there is leftover fabric that somehow got caught in your pants during the wash - it's quite disconcerting, until you get used to it. The sizes do trend true to advertised specs, however, and if anything, the 36 length does truly reflect wearing these pants with shoes. Again, another thing that I did notice, in comparison with my standard Carharts, ( double fronts )is that the cut of the Mountain Khakis are much fuller in the back of the leg-( probably due to that curious double gusseted seat again ). All in all, I do truly like these pants, and will purchase another pair, Mind you I do believe that it will take quite some time before these pants gain the same " street Cred" as a nicely worn in pair of Carharts.
