Description

Part of the aggressive Ascent series, the MSR Lightning Ascent 22 Snowshoes are designed to get you to your destination no matter what terrain lays in your path. Bombproof and lightweight, these all-mountain snowshoes have 360° Traction steel frames with teeth all the way around for maximum bite on steep, icy hills. Steel crampons underfoot help with traction while add-on tails extend their length to give you more flotation on deeper snow or when you’re carrying a heavy load. Long ascents are no longer a problem for tired calf muscles thanks to the Ergo™ Televator heel lifts that deploy with a quick flick of your pole. Made in the USA with attention to detail, the MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoes are ready for any adventure from a backcountry hut trip with your hard-core winter-loving friends to a steep day hike up to a seasonally-closed fire-lookout to take in the stellar view.

Lightning Ascent 22 Snowshoe 5 5 2 2
Great Snow Shoe Just got back from mt.whitney and these shoes really performed. I purchased the 22" model and it was the perfect size for my 180# body weight and 55# pack in semi crusted over snow. For powder I will get the tails ,but for the conditions and terrain I was in the smaller length was perfect. They are light weight and durable. The lashing system fit my size 10 double boots well and will fit my regular boots as well. The step bar was a real calf saver on the ascent. February 15, 2011
After first two outings with MSR Lightning Ascents I bought a second pair of snow shoes so I wouldn't have to hassle renting another pair when someone else (who doesn't have their own gear) joins me. It was an added benefit that I could bring variety to my ice & snow arsenal by getting something of a different size and style than what I already had, and from a different manufacturer. Like the MSR Lightning Ascents, my Atlas model 12/30s have a heel lift for ascents, and I like them very much. The bindings on these Atlases are much more convenient than those on the MSRs. However, once on, the MSRs feel more like an extension of my boot (rather than a foreign object at the end of my foot). And there are some other advantages to the MSR Lightning Ascents. The MSRs have far superior traction for ascents, descents and traverses. The importance of this struck me one day before acquiring the MSRs, when I was on a particularly steep ascent, in icy snow, with an older model of Atlas 30" snow shoe. Not only did it lack a heel riser, but the tubular frame was actually working AGAINST the built-in crampons getting a good enough bite to keep me from losing it. I just got the 5" inch tails and a carrying case for the MSRs, which will likely make them my first choice for all occasions. All around, they are an excellent product. January 11, 2011
