Description

Reach the pinnacle of light, aggressive all-terrain performance with the MSR Lightning Ascent 30 Snowshoe. Made from a single, vertical blade of aerospace-grade aluminum, supported by 2 cross-members of high-strength steel, this robust shoe will tromp through anything put in its way. The urethane-impregnated nylon deck is lightweight, waterproof and durable, with a welded reinforced patch under the heel strike zone. The new PosiLock™ AT bindings fit a variety of footwear and cinch closed with three adjustable silicone straps over the foot and a fourth around the heel. A Televator heel lift reduces calf fatigue in steep terrain. Under the binding a steel crampon bites into the snow, and 360° teeth on the underside of the frame provides unprecedented traction. The shoe also accepts MSR's modular flotation tails for increased weight capacity and flotation. Rip into any slope with the Lightning Ascent 30 Snowshoe from MSR.

great snow shoes
February 19, 2012

I have the msr lightening ascent 25 snow shoes and like them but will be going to denali this summer and wanted more flotation. It is amazing how much more flotation these give. Since i bought my old shoes MSR has continued to improve these shoes-the bindings have a better rubber strap and the heel elevator is now easy to put up with your ski pole

Pros: Great design, Ease of use
Cons: Cost

Excellent pair of Snowshoes!
February 13, 2012

This is an excellent pair of snowshoes! I used them for the first time today and was quite impressed. The traction is excellent. I was able to ascend very steep hills with ease. I weigh about 200 pounds and this seemed to be an excellent size to handle that kind of weight.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value

MSR Lightning Accent 30"
February 10, 2012

I've bee using 30" Sherpas for some number of years now, although they are old school, I haven't seen any benefits of updating my snow shoes until now. Standard tube frame shoe's only give you moderate traction at best where the crampon spikes are located. This is where the Lightning Ascent absolutely dominates over any previous designs in snowshoeing. The entire snow shoe frame is one massive serrated crampon on. The traction is unlike anything I have seen or used. This feature is awesome in the steep un-forgiving alpine environment. Another great feature is the bindings. They work flawlessly with my Lasportiva Evo Nepals size 45. Not to also mention the bindings are secure and fast. Lastly, the weight is an added bonus compared to tube frame style shoes. As of yet, I can't find any aspect of where these shoe are not superior to whats out there. Truly an evolution in snowshoe technology verses your typical gimmicks that companies use to sell products. These are one of those pieces of gear that will allow you to feel that its been handled, strap these on and get some...

Lightning Ascent 30 Snowshoe
May 26, 2011

Having owned several pairs of metal snowshoes, the MSR Ascent are the best I've seen. Design allows much functionality for a wide range of terrain and snow conditions. Quality construction appears to be unmatched. I especially like their compactness, but large footprint. Only negative would be the price--but, one usually gets what one pays for....

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use

Top of the Line

The MSR Lightning Ascent 30 Snowshoe is everything that I was looking to find. I am a fairly large person (6 foot, 220 pounds + 40 pound pack), and I had no problem staying on top of the snow in the Sierras. The heel bar is quick and convenient, while I have no doubt that the material will last me a lifetime. I am very happy with this purchase and recommend the MSR Lightning Ascents to anyone from the periodic trail hiker to the aspiring mountaineer.
