Great Product
I did a fair bit of research before deciding to go with the Mountain Safety Research: MiniWorks EX Water Filter Pump. I'm very happy with my decision - a great product - highly recommended!

Wonderful piece of technology
The nanopore ceramic media inside this unit works amazingly well. The filter life is super-long, and the water tastes almost like Poland Springs! It takes about 60 seconds of pumping to fill up a Nalgene widemouth 1-liter bottle. This unit's best feature is its ability to screw onto a Nalgene widemouth, effectively keeping even one drop of the freshly filtered water you just worked so hard for, from spilling. :) My fiance was getting annoyed at me for verbally praising this item so much when on a 3-day trek. BUY ONE!!

Best Filter on the Market
This filter keeps going and going and going like the Energizer bunny. I've never had a problem with it.

great filter
Used this MSR Mini Pump on my recent trip to East Africa. Worked great and never got sick from the water. Ended up getting food poisoning instead! This pump was amazing to travel with as it's light weight, compact and easy to use/clean.

Excellent, Must Have For Any Trip
I won mine for free at REI during one of their events. This is an awsome water pump. Its very compact, and fills your Nalgene bottle in no time. It's easy to disassemble and reassemble for cleaning. I've taken it with me when I goto primitive canoe campsites where the only water is from the river. Gives great tasting water, even from swamp water.

The perfect filter
I've owned two other water filters before this one. No question in my mind this is the filter to buy. The filter element has lasted me 2 years of heavy use and I still don't need to replace it. The others lasted me barely 4 months. The ease of pumping and ability to attach to a Nalgene or hydro pack make the process simple, instead of akward like the others. Excellent rate of flow,it removes all of the nasties, lightweight, simple maintenance, I have no complaints whatsoever.

Very efficient design.
This pump is well enigineered. Because it is made to screw directly onto a wide-mouth bottle, you only have one hose to contend with. There is a notch in the handle that holds the end of the one hose it has, so you can wind it up and keep it from getting in the way. The pump is about the same size as a water bottle, so it fits into a water bottle holder. It is very easy to operate - the handle gives lots of torque, and the air-bubble design allows a pump/second to keep a constant stream of water flowing. You can easily achieve the l/min pump rate advertised.

Compact and easy to use
I paired the MSR miniworks filter w/ a Nalgene 96oz canteen for a great combination. I just screw the canteen to the filter and pump away, no balancing acts required at the water's edge. The filtered water tastes better than from the tap, and I've filtered some scuzzy looking water here in NJ w/o ever having fallen ill. I highly recommend this product.

Awesome product
I've used this filter for many trips now and pumped some really nasty water, so I feel qualified to comment on it. No matter how nasty and disease-ridden the water looks, it comes out tasting as clear and pure as a bottle of your favorite brand of store-bought spring water. It's well-engineered and built, durable, and easily maintained, even in the field. The pump design is the best out there, in my opinion, because it allows you to employ a ratcheting-style of pumping that reduces fatigue on the pump handle arm. Plus, it screws into MSR bottles/hydration packs as well as wide-mouth Nalgene for effortless and tidy water transfer. Ideally it would catch viruses, pump a liter in 10 secs and weigh 2 oz. but dream on...the only reason I wouldn't recommend this filter is if you are do primarily sub-freezing camping, the water-filled ceramic will freeze and bust if you don't keep it in your sleeping bag or close to your body, and then you're back to the nasty iodine pill backup, if you brought them. Bravo MSR, keep up the good work.

Efficient water filter
This is a very useful, lightweight, compact ceramic water filter. It is easy to use, and has an efficient pumping action. Especially useful is the fact that the MSR hydration pack can be screwed directly onto the base of the filter, so that it can be refilled without spillage. It is indispensable in areas where water quality cannot be taken for granted (& there are lots of those where I live and hike!). I hugely prefer using this filter rather than tablets, in spite of its extra weight, since it does not make the drinking water taste foul, like the purification tablets.
