I love this pack
May 08, 2011
Bought this for my German Shepherd, who loves to go hiking with us and is being trained for SAR. When properly balanced (equal weight on both sides), it stays in place and doesn't get in his way much at all. It's easy to put on. It's also very roomy and the outside mesh pocket is nice for carrying his collapsible dog bowl. I keep an emergency chapstick and other small misc items in the interior pockets. He loves carrying stuff for me -- it makes him feel useful.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of useAlready own the Mountainsmith Dog Pack? Tell us your thoughts.
Great Pack for my Four Legged Friend

Love the pack and so does my dog. It seems to be high quality. My dog likes it. We use it every walk and I put my keys, wallet, cell phone, and water in it. Can't wait to test it in the wilderness. Now Mr. Tex can carry his own food and water on our backpacking trips. Great product, no complaints. Thanks
Love it!

I had to get a new pack for my Lab since my brother broke the strap when he took her running. This fits much better than her last one. I love the fast that there are three straps instead of just the standard two and the pockets are deep so she can carry all her own stuff. I have tested it out around the house but the real test will be this weekend when we go hiking. The package arrive faster than I expected as well.

When I first got this pack, I though to my self "well, it looks like a good pack". And I wasn't wrong, for the most part. This was my dog's first pack, and since he was still growing a little more, I expected the pack to be a bit big on him. My dog, Hunter, is a German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix, who at about 9 moths was already weighting in at 70lbs, and the medium size pack fit him a little bit large. Now Hunter is full grown and he's at a hefty 90lbs at just a year and a month old, and the pack fit's him just right. He's been wearing it for about 6 months, and he has done about 100 miles with me, while wearing the pack. He will usually carry the basics: water, food and his bowls. And he has gone for some long hikes with me before, with no trouble (14 miles before ). But on the most recent hike, on our way back he brushed against something (not sure if it was a tree or a rock) and the pack teared apart! This happened towards the end of the hike, and it pretty much render the pack unwearable. I was amazed since the pack had done so well so far, and it didn't show much sign of wear. For this reason is that I am giving the pack such low score. It is well designed, for it's intended purpose, and the colors and reflectors make your dog highly visible. But it worn off too fast, and the price is a little too much for the quality. I think it's a great "first" pack for your dog, that you can use to determine what kind of hiker he will be from then on.
Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, high visibility, Cons: Wears quickly, Low performanceGOOD CHOICE

BOTH THE DOG (100LB. ROTTI) AND I LIKE THE BACK PACK FOR CALMER WALKS AND EXPENDING HIS BOUNDLESS ENERGY. IT'S THE CORRECT SIZE AND STAYS PUT WITH A HEAVY LOAN. HE EVEN ROLLS OVER WITHOUT DISLODGING HIS PACK. VERY ATTRACTIVE HIGH QUALITY PRODUCT.
