good 3 or 4 season jacket I received this coat for Christmas and have worn it everywhere. I am usually hot so this is a great jacket for winter it is windproof and breathes. I think I will be able to get 3 or 4 seasons out of it. I have the xxlarge and it is a great fit( I am a bigger xlarge )it leaves me room for a layer underneath.

Great for running to and fro about the mall The great windstopping ability and accessible pockets made this jacket a great choice for running between Bed, Bath, and Beyond and Target on even the coldest day. With uniquely positioned interior pockets, it made accessing my iPod and and cell phone a cinch. This is a great choice for heavy duty shopping days in inclement weather.

Awesome I just got this jacket after my Patagonia R4 was stolen. Windstopper is great. This jacket is light, versitile, and good looking. I wasnt sure what to expect, I loved the R4, but this ranks up there if not better. I also have The North Face Denali jacket and that just doesnt compare. It is not made as an outer layer. This jacket is light like the Denali, but not bulky. It is as windproff as the R4, but you dont overheat. In my opinion, one of the best fleece jackets I have every bought.

All-Pro Jacket This jacket is the most practical piece of outerwear I have ever owned. I am 5'10, 175lbs. and this jacket fits
fine and looks great. It is hardcore and constructed well, yet it is still soft and comfortable. Won't need another fleece...maybe...ever.

Great jacket! After doing a lot of research and trying on several tech fleece jackets, I bought the MH tech. Compared to the NF Pamir it just fits better and looks better imo. The thing I notice about the MH stuff is the sleeves fit great! They are long enough, but not huge around - in otherwords they have a trim fit, but the jacket is not confining at all. It is amazing how the jacket is so light, but due to the windproof material it is really warm - hard to believe what just keeping the wind out of your jacket can do for your body temp. Anyway - this is a very high quality jacket - which it should be for the price, but if you want good gear, you can't go wrong with this piece. - Carbon color is subtle but nice as well -

Great fishing jacket! Light weight, comfortable and windproof. Sleeves are a little long, so they don't ride up when fly casting. The extra pockets are a nice bonus, especially the interior one.

Stylish and Solid A great looking jacket that is light but hammers the wind. I really enjoy wearing this on cold days and under my MH exposure II parka. Runs a little small. I wear an XL in this, but a large in the exposure II parka. I am 6'1" 190 pounds.

Great Jacket This jacket functionally is excellent. Although, I'm not too sure I am happy with the looks. The mountain hardwear logo is tacky looking, and I am not fond of the flap on the horizontal chest pocket, which should probably be vertical. I docked this jacket one point because I personally wasn't too excited about the looks, however functionally it does everything right and it feels like an improved version of the north face denali jacket.

Outstanding Simply the best Windstopper fleece jacket made. TNF can't match the quality (plus everyone's got NF), Arc'Teryx is just ridiculously overpriced, and many others don't make an XXL for us linebacker types. Good fit, good looking, and bomb-proof. It's lightweight, but feels like armor. Has pit zips, a soft collar, big pockets, and re-inforced in all the right areas. I mostly wear it on it's own, but it's perfect under a shell too.

True to its name I used a older MHW WS before I bought a new one this year, b/c I wore it out. I used it in IL in the winter while biking and it really keeps the nasty frigid wind out. Paired with WS gloves and WS hat, you can't go wrong. I now wear it under the MHW EX II to keep out the rain.

Great quality, and it stops the wind like a wall! This jacket really stops the wind! I was wearing it in 20 degree weather with 30 mph winds, and I could tell that the wind was blowing, but I couldn't feel it inside the jacket! It's best worn as an outer layer to stop the wind, as it's not as warm as my MH fleece, but the wind will not get through.

Best overall light jacket I've ever owned I like this jack so much I bought a second one when my dog destroyed my first. Perfect for moderate cold temperatures. Great functionality and fit. Jacket does fit slightly snug, so don't think it will be big enough to layer underneath unless you order a size up.

Awesome Jacket This has become my wear anytime jacket - skiing, at home, out on the town. It's very comfortable and roomy enough to layer without feeling tight. I went skiing last weekend with temp in the low 30's and high winds. The jacket blocked the wind as advertised and kept me warm with just a shell over the MHW jacket. It seems to breath well...I wasn't overheating after a hard ski run. The pit zip is a must have feature. The jacket was alittle stiff at first but with one wash, it now so comfortable and broken in. This is definetly a must have fleece. I like this jacket so much, I'm planning on buying the matching pants as well.

Great Jacket worth the cash Like all Mountain Hardwear products, this jacket is great. I wish it was a tad lighter, but as far as fleece goes, this is the jacket to have. Fleece is rendered useless when wind a blowing, with the windstopper in this fleece it raises temp range considerable.

Fantastic Jacket I have a number of fleeces but was always wearing something over them to stop the wind. The Windstopper fleece does that in spades. I use it as an around town jacket and it is the first thing on after I pull off my wetsuit after surfing. My wife gave it to me for Christmas and as she bought it at a full price venue I'm sure she paid the full price. Two weeks after I got it, it was stolen out of my car when I left the car with valet parking. I had no proof so couldn't do much about it. Anyway I really wanted a replacement and being able to buy it at Altrec with a nice discount, eased the pain.

Just Right For Many Conditions One of the guys I climb with bought one of these and I noticed it out one winter trip. After his blessing on great function, I bought one. Not disappointed. This thing is light, ventilation options, keeps that cold winter wind on the outside, not to bulky, not to lose and zips very nicely into my MH Confluence parka when it gets nasty up in any alpine zone. You may pay a bit more than other jackets in this category but IMHO, worth every penny.

Very nice The jacket fit is snug but not too snug (I am wearing a large and I am 5'9" with a 44" chest). The jacket alone is good to upper 30's. I have other windblock 200 weight fleece which is a bit warmer but not as light as this jacket. I have a NF Apex Bionic jacket and this is much much better.

A Great Jacket I shopped around and this is the best jacket for the money. It fits well (not too roomy not too tight) and has features re pockets and zippers under the arms for breathing of jackets that are much more expensive. Plus it is a windstopper design on top of everything else.

Great jacket I got this jacket to wear on the cold nights down in Arizona and found myself wearing it when I was home for Christmas in Minnesota. It is a really warm jacket for how thin it is. I had it with just a t-shirt underneath and down to about 30 degrees and was completely warm. Altrec has great customer service as well, when you call you can actaully talk to someone right away it is great.

the best! Light weight and warm, this jacket has it all. I can't believe how light it is. At basically the same price as the NF fleece jacket there is no comparison. It is much warmer, def keeps all the wind out and is half the weight. This jacket rocks.

My favorite piece of equipment I've worn it skiing as an outer layer when it's warm, I've climbed Rainier and the Alps with it, and I've worn it out for beers. The fit is snug, but still allows good movement. It breaths wicked well, and it repels a drizzle.
Well worth the price

Just what I wanted I live in Texas -- it gets cold sometimes, but rarely is it very extreme. This jacket isn't as heavy as the North Face Denali, which was my initial choice. After looking at the two, I opted for the Windstopper over the Denali. I've never regretted that choice. Even if I lived in a colder climate, there's a little part of me that shys away from TNF these days because every kid on campus is wearing their stuff (regardless, TNF does make great gear)
I spend a lot of time outside in 50-65 degree weather when I want a jacket -- much warmer than that and just a shirt is usually enough. I've worn this jacket with shorts and a tshirt when it was 60-65 and felt great. The pit zips work wonders. I went camping for a weekend when it was down into the 30s, wore the jacket over a underarmour base layer (not the insulated coldgear type), a tshirt, and a light fleece vest, and I was just fine. A few informal tests involving rolling down my truck windows proved that the jacket is indeed windproof. It'll be fine in a light drizzle -- a couple drops on the jacket and they'll bead right off -- but you'll want a waterproof shell over it when seeing heavy precipitation. It fits fairly close to the body compared to many other jackets, so if you plan to layer heavily under it I'd probably go a size up. I've only been climbing with it on a little bit, but it felt great - kept me warm without limiting my mobility or being too bulky.
To summarize, it's a great jacket for what it's designed for. Blocks the wind, provides some warmth but not a lot of insulation, fits great, has the pit zips a lot of us want for when it gets warmer, and to top it all off the thing looks just fine for a casual night out on the town. The only downside is that it's a little on the expensive side. It's very comparable to TNF's Denali, but the Denali uses a heavier fleece. I'd probably get the Denali if I planned on using it in a significantly colder climate. For those of us in the south, you can't go wrong with the windstopper tech jacket if you don't mind the pricetag.

great function, bad look This is a great jacket and it fits really well! I have the denali jacket and this is better in terms of function- it is windproof and it is much much lighter/less bulky. If I have to choose between them I would definitely go for this. However I am not very pleased with how it looks... Great functionally but can improve on the looks.

I am a believer I must admit I was skeptical when I read the reviews, how could a jacket so light weight be so warm. Well I am a believer after wearing this jacket with only a poly T-shirt in 38 degree weather with 25 to 30 mph wind gusts. I am a 56 year old runner lucky enough to have survived 4 heart attacks, on all kinds of meds and hate being cold. I purchased a large concerned about size since I am 6ft and 178lbs and usually wear Med-Tall items, it fits great. I will be honest, wasn't concerned about pockets, or how many. I am very impressed and want to express my thanks to Mountain Hardwear for producing such an outstanding jacket.

Essential Gear For World Travel Getting ready for my second trip to Trans-Himalayas in China via self-supported mtn. bike touring, and i knew this was one item going with me. Travel weight is a big consideration, so i have to take only what will get me thru a myriad of conditions/elevation (plus some down, and merino wool base layers).
Customer service did a stellar job getting me the right size after switching- at the same great price i initially bought it. Kudos!

It's reputation is deserved I wear it hiking and for all around casual wear. The jacket leaves plenty of room for layering, even with a heavy down vest underneath. It does block the wind extremely well and is warmer than one might think from it's light weight. All around excellent jacket.

Good I also have a Windstopper MH jacket (minus the Tech) and I like it much better, it is more of a fleece than this is. It does run loose, so buy accordingly. I am 5'9" and a l medium is just a little looser than I would like. The medium Windstopper i have fits perfectly though.

I wear it all the time now. It took me a few weeks before I tried it on for the first time. After that, I was very impressed by how effective it was at keeping the wind out. I can wear it over a sweater and as a base layer under my winter coat. It makes a world of difference. Now I don't leave home without it. Worth the wait to buy it on sale.

the best fit and performance I am ordering my 2nd Windstopper (my original is 7 years old and still giving great service)...I have several different windbloc fleece jackets that I use x-country skiing and hiking in the Catskill Mts. of upstate NY, fall, winter, and spring...the Mt. Hardwear Windstopper is unparalleled in comfort and performance in temps well below freezing...with polypro layers underneath, it's almost bombproof...highly recommended...and on sale from Altrec...you can't miss!...Sizing is relaxed fit, comfortable, and true...an XL is an XL...

Terrific running jacket This stops the wind dead in it tracks! I have worn this when the wind is howling, the temp is 25 degrees and it feels like 18 degrees, and all I have underneath is a lightweight thermal shirt and the Mountain Hardwear Featherweight T shirt. I never even feel the wind. In fact this combination keeps me so warm that I open the pit zips all the way.
The jacket is well made, and the pocket at the top is great for keeping my ipod.
Keep in mind that this jacket is for running. It is not as warm as a regular fleece jacket if you just wear it around town. But for running you can't beat it. You will stay warm and the pit zips will stop you from sweating.

Great for Texas Weather In North Texas we only have a few days of "real" winter but we do have a wind that makes you feel like you not wearing anything at times. Much like everyone else says, this jacket does what it claims. It's light enough that you'll get more use from it than you would a heavy fleece. This will keep you plenty warm from fall, winter and spring nights. It's also light enough to use as a mid layer should you go somewhere or live somewhere frigid. Light rain didn't seem to phase it, however I wouldn't wear it if I was going to be in the rain the entire day or going into a downpour. If you are looking for a light mountaineering windproof jacket, then this comes highly recommended.

Awesome but not perfect Just got it and it rocks. Like everyone says it's very light and effective at keeping the wind out. I like how the liner is NOT fleece - it eliminates piling issues on the insides and makes it easier to move around in and feels better putting on and off.
Two comments regarding the design that could be improved [but I'm reaching here] (1) it's better to have 2 zipper tabs for the pit zips just in case one breaks and (2) the horizontal zipper for the outer chest pocket is harder to get to than a vertical one when wearing a pack (makes sense ya? can someone tell me the logic of having it horizontal?).
Now this is comparing apples to oranges, but the Windstopper isn't as warm as my 300 weight polar TNF fleece IN a shell [duh] but it kicks the TNF's butt when warn alone especially with the wind blowing [duh].
MH rocks though and I won't ever buy TNF again...not that they make crap, but the preps, dorks and also 7 year old girls running around in pink TNF fleeces everywhere kinda ruines droppin the $$$ on it. Other manufacturers Id consider and respect are Marmot, Patagonia, and ArcTeryx.

MH needs to make a women's version until then, this rocks! MH doesn't make a very similar version for women so I bit the bullet and bought a small men's windstopper and I am not disappointed although naturally the sleeves are a bit long. It beats the NF Denali hand over fist. I will never go back to plain fleece without the windstopper fabrics- I can wear this jacket with a light base layer on winter mountain treks without being weighed down and/or uncomfortably bulky. This jacket minimizes the need to peel off layers (and carry them which takes up space in a pack) due to getting too hot with heavier fabrics/insulation.
My only regret is that MH doesn't make a women's version that is exactly the same- that ridiculous MH monkey fleece jacket is bulky and silly looking and doesn't stop wind in its tracks.

this is a wonderful jacket I love this jacket. I am pretty sure I would not have paid the $184.95 for it, but if you are patient you can get a great deal on this jacket as I did. The Windstopper fabric is great. I now have two jackets with Windstopper and they do just what they claim. This jacket is great as an outer layer in temperatures down to about 40 degrees F then you might want to consider either a shell or warmer layers underneath. It does fit a little snug by design so depending on your build, a shell might be the best option. I have worn mine almost constantly since I got it in early December in our unpredictable Ohio winter. I wear i out to eat shopping, hiking and even skiing. I don't think I would recommend it for running or cycling since I think it would be too warm for high-energy activities, but hiking etc it's great for. Also, I find it to be as soft and comfortable as any fleece jacket I have ever owned. Of course, as others have said, it's not a thick fleece jacket so if that's what you are looking for, this isn't that. All-in-all, a great jacket, but maybe a little pricey at retail price.

Great for all uses Bought three jackets; Arcteryx Gamma SV, MH Alchemy and the Windstopper tech. When they arrived, I wore each for a couple of days to test comfort and warmth. Gamma SV was the best looking, exterior was a soft shell and not fleece, but it was not the warmest. Alchemy was like wearing a wetsuit, very tight fitting and pockets were not well placed. Windstopper was the most loose fitting of the three and allowed me to layer underneath. Style, it probably loses the competition, Gamma SV wins that. But, after owning for three months, I've worn every day. Skiied in temps down to 10-15 with base layer, mid layer and this as top layer. Run in temps around 30 with tshirt and this as outer layer (pit zips very nice). Wear to work with dress shirts every day. Lots of pockets, large inner pocket for cellphone and wallet while skiing. The only negative and it's picky is that I liked the look of the softshell material better than the fleece and if you wear it as an outerlayer during snow it obviously sticks to this jacket, although keeps you dry. Overall very satisfied and Altrec allowed returning other jackets no problem.

Excellent value jacket I recently purchased the Mountain Hardwear Windstopper in cobalt blue, and I am very pleased with this jacket. I have a fleece jacket that is warm - until the wind blows. This jacket effectively cuts the wind and prevent the chill, keeping me toasty warm. I especially like the drawstring bottom, which creates a snug fit that provides additional wind protection. It´s soft, doesn´t snag on my lower layers, and the elastic cuffs also aid in creating a windproof seal. When it isn´t so cold out, just use the convenient zippers on the sleeves to allow some cooling effect. It´s also great looking and stylish, like all Mountain Hardwear apparel. Zippering is easy, a flap protects against wind through the zipper, pockets are well placed - a well thought out product with quality workmanship throughout. These guys know how to do it right. Lovin`it.

Awesome jacket! This is my new everyday jacket of choice when the temp is 35-50 degree. When it gets below that I simply throw on my MH Conduit soft-shell. Like prior reviews, this jacket is very light and warm. Unlike my other medium MH jackets, I bought this a size small. This fleece sized like most Northface.

great jacket all around Jacket doesnt have the trendiness of the NF Denali, but I prefer it that way since everyone and their mother has one. It looks pretty decent style-wise, but it is amazing in a functional sense: fits well and very light, and completely windproof. Ive worn this at 60 degree weather, and also in 30 degree with wind with just a tee shirt and have been fine. Only problem is the logo is really big and odd looking on the black jacket, but i filled it in with a black marker and it looks fine now. Order it a size larger if you want to wear it as a stand-alone jacket and want to wear layers under the jacket, and have it fit loosely like the NF Denali.

I own 2 and am ordering my 3rd Without a doubt the BEST coat I've ever owned. I traveled all over the USA and Europe with one. It is ultra light, adaptable to every temperature with the underarm zippers and zip up collar. It has pocket space and is totally windproof. I been comfortable from 20 to 65 degrees using only this coat and a single shirt under it. Buy it on sale and you have a real bargain! I own a charcoal and a sapphire and now will add the lava.

NICE Great all around jacket. Light weight, not to bulky. Good features (pit zips, inside stash pocket. Only complaint is the hand warmer pockets. They are just in a weird place, i know the intended purpose is to have access with a pack on but, the trade-of isnt there, what percentage of time will you have a pack on 30-40?? Overall awesome jacket!!!!

Great Jacket!! Definitely a great jacket to own. Keeps me very warm in mountain weather. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to use this in both moderate to cold weather conditions. It is also very lightweight but protects against cold/harsh winds. The petrol color is my fav.

Windstopper! This fleece does exactly as its name implies. Not only does it have the benefit of lightweight warmth, but also the windstopper lining does a bang-up job of keeping the chill wind out. This was a great value and well worth the money!

Good product with an in your face logo design Great product- well constructed and correctly sized. I particularly like the way they designed the sleeve ends. The only negative is that I find the companies logo a bit intrusive and would effect my desire to purchase additional MTN HDWR products

Tight Jacket Good Jacket. Great look. Not the warmest thing; but great for layering. Lots of pockets and ventilation. Tends to attract lint and is a bit pricey for what you get.

Great outdoor, cover all bases jacket. In milder temps,it vents well. Colder temps it blocks wind and keeps you warm. In snow it keeps you dry and warm. What else do you want?

Very nice jacket! I was looking for a jacket that I could wear to the office, and the MH WindStopper did not disappoint. I am 6'0", 175 lbs., so I ordered the large. When I first tried it on it seemed too snug, as some of the reviewers have pointed out, especially when wearing a sweater underneath. I found that when wearing a sweater, unzipping the armpits makes it perfectly comfortable. I also tried the XL, but that was just too big. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Swiss Alpine Test This is a well designed technical piece of gear.Incredibly durable and functional. I recently wore this while on an alpine backpacking, mountaineering trip in the Swiss Alps. I encountered rain, snow and sleet, along with high winds. It worked well solo ( with temps in the upper 20's) and as a base for the Mountain Hardware parka. DWR worked great and the fabric is tough holding up to lots of wear and tear. Finally after washing in the sink it looked great to wear in town.

Incredible Jacket! Incredible Company! I ordered this on a Thursday when it was on sale for an incredible low price (lowest anywhere). I got the free shipping on the jacket and I was told that it would ship in 7-12 days. This was fine with me and I was surprised when it came in the mail the following tuesday, way ahead of schedule. My order was quickly processed as well by Altrec. I definitely would recommend this company to anyone. Now for the jacket. This jacket is incredible. It looks and feels superb. The quality of build is superior to anything I have bought before. I bought a large and it fit me very well, I'm 6'3, 165lbs. I would recommend this jacket to anyone. Just the other day for 4th of July fireworks, it was very windy and chilly unfortunately, winds were about 70mph so fireworks were postponed, but I never felt the breeze or cold in this jacket. Awesome product, will be buying more from Altrec and Mountain Hardwear.

Great jacket I am very pleased with the purchase of the Windstopper jacket. It is warmer than the weight and thickness of the jacket would lead on. Great protection from the wind too. I generally like things to be more fitted; it was a toss up between the medium and the large. I chose the large and it fits perfect, just enough room to layer underneath, but not too bulky with just a t-shirt.
