Depart on extended summer paddling trips, venture far into the frigid backcountry: this freestanding, three-person design offers excellent stability throughout the year. A polyurethane-coated ripstop polyester rainfly sheds winter weather, and three DAC Featherlite aluminum poles of 11.1 mm and 13.2 mm thickness give the Venus III all-season strength. Flat pole sleeves improve the overall aerodynamics of the tent, reducing the tendency to flap in heavy weather. Separate doors with large vestibules offer space to move around; the smaller vestibule includes a loft for storing wet gear. A polyurethane-coated, taffeta nylon floor blocks moisture at sandy, riverside campsites and on snowy February ski traverses. The ripstop polyester canopy is suspended from the pole structure, allowing the rainfly to be used alone as a lightweight shelter or the canopy to be erected separately in warm conditions.

I just finished a 4-night, 5-day backpacking trip and the 3 of us (2 adults, 1 child) were glad we chose to buy this tent. At one point we had 6 hours of rain and it kept us dry and we didn't have to deal with the slightest bit of condensation. I really liked the headroom. I'm 5 foot, 9 inches and could "stand" on my knees without ducking my head. The vestibules were roomy too, unlike the hardly usable ones on some tents. Yes this tent weighs a bit more than some others but its incredibly versatile. I see myself using it on everything from car camping trips to mountaineering trips. I haven't had it out in heavy wind yet, but with thick aluminum poles, taut construction, and plentiful guy lines I have no doubt this will hold up in bad weather.
