Awesome! Jacket is awesome. Much better for all around cold weather than NF Nuptse. Nuptse is TOO warm. Perfect for the Denver climate!

Not Normally a Down Lover This jacket is comfortable, warm, sized right and so far the outer layer holds up well against snags. I don't normally buy down because it makes me sneeze, but I am very happy to have this little piece in the collection

lightweight and warm jacket I recently purchased the Mountain Hardware Sub Zero jacket. I have never been a fan of down because every other down jacket I have purchused has been heavy and uncomfortable. The Sub Zero jacket shocked me when I first tried it on, for it was warm, light, and comfortable. The jacket has many great features, such as drawcords meant for adjusting the jacket's size in different places. My Sub Zero feels like it was custom fit. The Sub Zero is also very durable. It has withstood many events which would have torn any other jacket to pieces. I would highly reccomend the Sub Zero for anyone who is looking for a durble, lightweight, warm jacket.

Great Value & Lightweight Warmth Much better value than the Nuptse. The construction and the reinforced areas are very durable for when walking through thick woods. And despite the unusually warm weather, there were a few very cold weekends in upper New York state, it proved to be a very warm jacket minimal weight and packing space that is the magic qualities of down with the stuffsack. There was just one problem I found, above it is advertised as being a baffle construction, this isn't true in any part of the jacket but generally is only used in down suits and hooded jackets. The inside pocket is good for goggles and maps, and the fleece lined pockets are very nice. Fits well with multiple layers, and great under a shell while retaining mobilty all over. Thumbs up to MH for a great jacket and to Altrec for great price and customer service.

This jacket is the best!! I have been looking for a down jacket for my father for a long time, actually purchasing and returning a few, and finally the Sub Zero. My father and I love the color, thickness, and style. It's the best buy in terms of it's quality and price!

Nice! I purchased this item for my husband after enjoying my own for the past 3 years. I ended up wanting to return it for a different color, but the jacket itself is tops - quality craftsmanship, just the right amount of pockets and a great fit. A great value for the price. It's like wearing a tailored sleeping bag.

Warm, stylish, and a tad short After reading the reviews of this jacket on this website, I purchased it.
Overall, the Sub Zero Down coat is warm, nice looking, and sold for a fair price. A number of people have offered me (or it?) compliments. I feel confidently protected against the elements.
I do have some minor issues that I will mention here: 1. the carbon color as shown on the website appears bluish-grey, but in person is a dark green. While I do like the green with black, I was surprised by the big difference between the website's depiction and the actual color. 2. The length of the coat is a tad too short for non-active wearing. If your outdoor lifestyle is more urban streetpounding and keeping warm in northern climates than engaging in aerobic activities, you may want to consider a longer length in the back.

Awesome Puffy Jacket, Better than my Northface The best puffy down jacket that I have owned. I have a Northface version that just does not compare. MHW is not as puffy, and just as warm. The external shell seems a little thicker and is made of two type of fabric. I am very satisfied with this jacket.

Terrific warmth for the weight The jacket performs great as a stand alone or layered under a shell (such as the MH Exposure II Parka). It keeps me very warm, even in wind and cold rain. The nylon shell appears a bit thin, but so far it has held up well. The jacket also compacts nicely. The jacket as a whole is designed very well; I especially like the fleece-lined pockets.

Awesome Baby Jacket arrived just in time for sub 20 F weather hitting NE Ohio. Nice and warm and not to bulky. I have a hour drive to work and this jacket is very comfortable in the car. There are some feathers caught in the stiching but i guess this is normal for a down product, although I examined my TNF Nupste (sp??) vest and found none. For some reason the fabric is holding a static charge--within 5 minutes of opening the package the jacket was full of dog hair and othet stuff. All in all very pleased at this time.

Perfect Warm but not overly bulky and very well designed - the fleece pockets are a nice touch. The whole backs of the arms and the shoulders are made from a tougher material which makes tthe jacket pretty sturdy. Buy this instead of the Nuptse and you can spend 50 more dollars on beer.

Couldn't be better I love this jacket. Granted I wouldn't take it deep into the Sierras in January, don't think that is its purpose. Have had it up on a couple of 14,000 footers and it worked great. The price I got it for couldn't be beat anywhere. Trust me I looked. Would buy it again if the need arises, even at a higher price.

warm but... very, very warm coat, definately great at first, but the down quickly poked thru the coat all over the place... especially the seams. After a couple of seasons, the down has settled badly leaving several spots with no down.. especially in the arms.
Front zipper often pinched the material about 3/4' of the way up. Very difficult to free and get the jacket zipped up or down from there. Trying the nike no sew this time...

The length of the Jacket is very short Unfortunately, I returned 4 of the 5 jackets that I had purchased for my family. The Jacket length was much too low and kept creeping up above the waistline causing a draft to enter from the bottom of the jacket. This said, the folks at Altrec was fantastic in expediting the return with absolutely no fuss or difficulties. I would continue to purchase from Altrec.

Comfortable, warm and low bulk Very well made, warm, comfortable & lightweight. I've found the 650 fill in the sub-zero jacket is comfortable and low in bulk w/o sacrificing warmth, it's just right as an outer layer in low to mid 30's & mid 40's w/light wind. It rolls up nicely in the included / seperate logo'd stuff bag which make it very easy to transport & get to easily - if the temp drops dramatically.

Absolute great looking and great preforming product! The Mountain Hardware Sub Zero Down Jacket is a very sharp looking and great fitting jacket. It is worth every penny I paid for it! It has a very sharp look, and the perfomance is exactly what you would expect from Mountain Hardware. Living in the southern United States, it has not seen extreme temperatures for use, but the construction, materials, and fit are a thumbs up! One very minor complaint, and I do mean minor. The material in the neck collar is a little colder than I would like. Some warm fleece on the inside would have been better. Other than that, this jacket gives you it's money's worth. You will NOT be disappointed.

The best winter jacket I've ever got I've purchased Sub Zero Jacket from altrec and I've been wearing it for the past several weeks. I mainly wear the jacket when I commute to the office and walking around the town. This is the best jacket I've ever got in my life.
Before I finally placed an order on Sub Zero, I compared the jacket with Feathered Friends Volant Jacket and Western Mountaineering Meltdown Jacket. Unlike the latter two jackets, Sub Zero is not too bulky and looks great in the town. In my point of view, Volant well surpasses Sub Zero in its warmth and craftsmanship, but it is way too bulky and it makes me look like "Michelin Man". As for Meltdown, it looks a little cheap compared with Sub Zero and Volant.
Sub Zero has plenty of handy pockets. Freece-lined handwarmer pockets are very warm and comfortable. The zipped chest pocket is quite handy for keeping my train tickets when commuting.
Velcro cuffs are useful, they allow me to adjust the cuffs for not too tight, not too loose fit. And I can easily tuck my sleeves up when necessary, without worrying about damaging the elastic cuffs.
The down-filled collar gently fits around my neck, so I don't need my wool scarf anymore. Also, the jacket is highly wind-resistant. As for its water-proofness, I cannot judge because I have not worn the jacket in rain.
However, Sub Zero does have a couple of glitches. While the catalog says the outer shell is down-proof, the jacket does leak down. The stitch work is generally good, but I found a couple of loose stitches, although they do not seem to cause serious problems.
Overall I am highly satisfied with Sub Zero, and I'm sure I wll keep it for the years to come.

Good jacket - Fast delivery I ordered this jacket just before Christmas and was told it would be here in January but instead it arrived a few days before Christmas .. so great delivery. The jacket so far has proved to be
just what I was looking and for and I am not disappointed in UK weather. The real test will be soon when I travel to Moscow in the height of their winter but I don't, based on my trial so far expect any nasty surprises. In short a good comfortable jacket and a good purchase. The range of larger sizes in fantastic and better than the UK.Will be back again I am sure, keep up the larger size stocks please.

Nice warm jacket at good price point I recently bought the house brand jacket at a Really large Equipment Internet/B&M store and ended up returning it because for 650 fill, it wasn't all that warm and the wind just sailed right on through it. On the other hand, the subzero is a tad bit heavier, is toasty warm and stands up to the wind. This isn't a technical jacket, the nylon shell is very thin in this class of jacket so watch those sticker bushes! However, for a "daily driver" it fits the bill well. I'm in-between a men's med and large and like to have extra room for layers. I realize this isn't a parka however, do wish the large I got was a bit longer. Finally, the last tube of down filling at the bottom of the coat, around the back of my hips, seems like it only got 1/2 a shot of down filling; it's a bit sparsely filled and I'm concerned about warmth in that area if I'm out all day. All in all, I'm happy with the coat.

Great down coat! And at a price you can't beat. Reinforced elbows, convenient pouch to pack it in, good zippers, and overall great construction. However its only 650 fill, good for everyday use, but I wouldn't suggest it if you're serious about cold excursions.

Very warm Very warm jacket. Picked this over the North Face Nuptse for the price and for the more durable material on the shoulders/arms. Wished that the hooded model didn't cost so much more. Stayed warm in Wisconsin sub zero temps with just a t-shirt on underneath. Only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is that some down feathers are starting to poke out after just a few weeks.

WARM This is a great jacket, very comfortable. I love wearing it on cold days, when it's on I feel like I am still lying in my warm bed. The construction is great and it has a spot for a water bottle inside to keep the water from freezing. The pockets are nice too, fleece lined:)

? Not sure what you are wanting here? I like the high down filled collar. The zips and pockets are all well made and there is enough. I haven't had it in the snow yet, just in an urban environment, but it feels like it will be warm enough. I bought it in the same size as a MH fleece, and if feels shorter in the body but the arm length is fine.

fairly okay, nothing great kind of heavy, not all that warm, 650 down, probably chinese with god knows how many feathers and twigs, really not a good deal. Better to go with Feathered Friends and 800+ down. This coat is a disappointment and has been sitting in my closet for awhile. Use it to walk the dog

Nice jacket - OK fit... The sub zero jacket is very warm, quite compact, and reasonably durable. I ordered the jacket according to Altrec measurements and, if I could do it again, I would have ordered the smaller size - it fits quite loose around the waist (although the arm length is about right). Overall, an excellent value in a warm down jacket.

Great down jacket for the price I am extremely satisfied with my Sub Zero jacket. From winter hiking to taking the puppy out at dawn, this jacket provides superior warmth. After hiking in brush and snagging the jacket on a variety of branches, I was able to witness for myself the high quality of tear resistant material that is used to construct the jacket. I highly recommend the Sub Zero to all those who are looking for a warm down jacket.
