Our warmest fleece, made to enhance mobility in frigid temperatures and prevent windchill nightmares. Now with a toastier fabric package - variegated fiber R2® on the inside and full-loft R2® on the outside, sandwiching a windproof laminate - our stretchy R4 excels alone or under a shell. Its lack of shoulder seams allows pack-wearing comfort, and the high-placed handwarmer pockets stay clear of a harness. Made in USA. Regulator® SystemRegulator is an integrated system (base, insulation, shell) that works in unison to keep you dryer and more comfortable over a wider range of conditions than a traditional waterproof layering system.
Seems heavy but it isn't
Great Jacket, really warm it seems heavy but it is a very light jacket, fits nice and very cool colors are available, for me size S is perfect long enough and perfect sleeves, I am 5'7 and really is a everywhere jacket for me if it isn't raining.
Snuggly, warm and very wind-proof!
The R-4 is a great jacket for 3 seasons sailing, skiing, hiking, and generally all activities: it is very comfortable, smartly tailored, and the fit is true to size. Cozy for lounging and driving, and good looking enough to be worn to a casual restaurant. Made from recycled materials, to boot! Highly recommended!
Great fitting fleece.
The R4 fits very well with an athletic cut. It is the perfect layering tool for those cold, windy winter days. I'm 6'3" tall and the XL fits perfect in the arm length and overall length. Lighter than other fleeces that I've owned in the past as well.

R4 is the warmest fleece
The R4 is the warmest fleece i have ever worn. I wore it skiing in VT in below 10 degrees and was warm the entire day. looks great around anywhere and very functional. The hand warmer pockets do let in cold air if they are not zipped up. overall the best and warmest fleece i have ever seen.
Silly Altrec
You guys are not watching the bottom line... this jacket is not 340 g as you advertise. It's almost twice that. You want us to trust you... but it's hard with misleading information.
warm, windproof, & light
extremely warm, without bulk, windproof too which is a major bonus.
Great jacket
I got this to give my 4 year old mountain hardwear windstopper tech some relief. The patagonia and mtn hardwear block wind equally well (99-100%) and are both extremely well suited for cold weather. The mountain hardwear isn't quite as warm as the patagonia but it is more comfortable to wear once inside - the patagonia tends to get a bit warm inside. In short - I live in Charleston, SC and if it's 40-50 I wear the mtn hardwear and if it's 30-40 i wear the patagonia (there's always 20mph wind here) but once I get inside I'm confortable keeping the mtn hardwear on - the patagonia is too warm.
Comfortable, light-weight, wind and cold resistant
Perhaps the best jacket ever purchased! Very comfortable and resists the wind and the cold. I wore this jacket on a windy and very cold day (19F) with just a t-shirt. I never felt the cold or the wind!!! Normally, I wear this jacket now with 2 additional light layers, hiking boots and gloves. The cold and dampness of the NE is never a problem anymore. The jacket is a must-have!
Great light weight, bulk free, windproof jacket
Almost everything about this jacket is first rate. It is soft, lightweight, low bulk, and very warm. I have worn it on some windy and cold days and it has performed beautifully. I really like the fit of the jacket as well. I am 6' 170 lbs. and many outdoor jackets in size large tend to end at the belt level, this jacket goes a little lower for that extra coverage. I would have liked to have an interior pocket, and the fluff on the cuff looks a bit feminine for my taste. Overall well worth the money.
Terrific jacket
This is a truly great jacket. It is very warm, yet lightweight. The only complain I have is that it tends to shed a bit. I bought the red version, and it is not uncommon to take it off and have red lint all over me.
Great Jacket ,blocks wind and is lightweight
The R4 jacket fits well. It gives a nice slimmer appearance that most of its competition. It holds up well. I bought one 2 years ago and it still looks great.
Amazing and versatile
I have been wearing my Patagonia R4 Jacket for about 3 years now and it still looks new. I wear it throughout much of the winter and only pull out the down on the coldest of days. This jacket is completely windproof and super warm. Additionally it is stylish like now other softshell type jacket. It has stretch and is just all around comfortable. I have tried similar jackets from Mountain Hardwear, Cloudveil, Arc'teryx and the North Face; this is hands down my favorite.
I have this same product in a vest and it is also perfect for me. I can't recommend this product enough.
Perfect gift for a commercial diver!
This was a gift to my husband (who has been wearing the same old fleece jacket for about 15 years) and he LOVES it!! He is a commercial diver and it is perfect for the trip in after a long cold day on the boat.
I love this jacket!
Great all around fleece jacket. I love the trim fit, not boxy like most of the other brands. Available colors are different too!
so warm its hot!
I love this Jacket! It would be everything you need if only it had a waterproofshell. Hence if you are in driving cold rain and sleet, in near freezing temperatures all you need is this jacket and a shell. To warm to go skiing in, but great to wear around in the winter.
Great winter jacket - great fit & very toasty!
This is the coziest, most comfortable jacket I've ever worn. I'm a slim 6' 5" and the XL fits me perfectly. I've been out all day in 35 degree weather with 25 mph North winds, and this jacket kept my core warm and toasty. It's just a bit stretchy, completely windproof, but very breathable - never clammy like my old Windstopper fleece this replaced. And it's pretty darn stylish, too - not too "techy" like some other fleece jackets (Mnt Hardware).
The quality and detailing are what I've come to expect from Patagonia. I've been looking for a windproof jacket with decent insulating qualities for quite some time. I looked at every soft shell on the market, then tried out a Marmot Gravity soft shell, but returned it due to the boxy fit and lack of insulation.
The R4 is exactly what I was looking for. I probably wouldn't have coughed up $215 for one, but I didn't have to. I'm an extremely happy customer.
Warmth of a bulky coat in a fast and light jacket
This product is very warm when considering it weighs only 28oz. Plus it is virtually wind-proof. The same Patagonia quality is in every stitch.
Patagonia is the best! the R4 is very warm and wonderful
This is a slightly lighter version of last years R4, yet it seems to be as warm or warmer. I will wear it all over the world!
A great all around fleece
Though expensive, this is a very versitile fleece. I bought it for the windproofing, but it has a trim cut that makes it great for a layer as well.
Heavy warm insulation
Great for winter activities in that it is very warm and windproof. Is a little stiff and boxy and probably insulates too well for running or cross-country skiing; better for hiking, belaying or going around town
Pricey, but great jacket
The jacket is super warm, but the "venting" pockets allow cold air to come in, forcing you to not use them in times of bitter cold. The construction is solid. The jacket really lasts a while and always looks like new. Also, the neck opening is pretty large, which allows cold air to come in. Other than those mild critiques, this jacket really lives up to Patagonia's high standards.
great jacket
This jacket is consistent with the high quality of other Patagonia products. very very warm, but still lightweight, feels great to the touch, excellent ventilation system, and good wind block properties
Two complaints:
-Pockets zip from down to up. Since the pockets are HUGE (they double as vents), it becomes annoying to have your hands in your pockets on a windy day, because the wind slips into the the enormous pockets/vents...it would be nice to be able to zip the pocket from up to down so that you can put your hands in your pockets on a windy day, and keep the pockets half-zipped, without being at the mercy of the wind
-the zipper quality is good enough, but is clearly inferior to those on the R2 jacket...as this is a more expensive model, I would expect the zipper quality to be at least on par with the less expensive models.
