Whether you are just coming off Mt. Rainier or through-hiking the Appalachian Trail, the Leki Makalu SAS trekking pole is ideally suited for the critical demands of avid backcountry users. With an internal steel spring and elastomer shock absorbing design, the Leki Makalu Soft Antishock System (SAS) minimizes vibration and ligament stress on your hands, elbows, and shoulder joints, as it assists in the distribution of up to 25 percent of the trekking effort to the your upper body. This SAS system also offers an easy to use press and twist on-off mechanism that shows added stability through a simple visible indicator. At the tip, where poles tend to take a beating, durable Carbide Flextips bend up to 30 degrees without adding structural stress to the pole shafts. Swap out the interchangeable baskets to match the weather and terrain and you're ready to go in any season. The Leki Super Makalu Ergometric Long SAS pole is a winner of the Backpacker Editors Choice 2004. Leki is also the first pole manufacturer to be tested and approved by TUV, the prestigious Technical Inspection Service of Europe.
