Patagonia Lightweight R4 Jacket - Men's

The Men's Lightweight R4? Jacket provides windproof protection for cold conditions in a single, stretchy package. Warm and stretchy, our Lightweight R4? Jacket provides windproof protection during high-output activity in cold conditions. A low-nap microfleece face and high/low grid interior sandwich the Polartec? Windbloc? laminate, while unlaminated R1? fabric (now made with recycled polyester) underarm panels enhance breathability and mobility. A neck gasket seals out the elements, and seamless shoulders allow pack-wearing comfort. With three external pockets (the hand pockets stay clear of your harness), two drop-in internal pockets, a drawcord hem and a clean, slim fit that accommodates underlayers. 100% recyclable through the Common Threads Recycling Program.

  • Lightweight R4?: 8.4-oz Polartec? Windbloc? laminate combines a polyester micro-fleece face with R1? (Polartec Power Dry?) grid polyester on the inside. R1 Panels: 6.5-oz 98% (60% recycled), 2% spandex (Polartec Power Dry) treated with a wicking finish. 100% recyclable through the Common Threads Recycling Program
  • Greater thermal versatility, more technical and stretchier than the traditional R4
  • Low nap microfleece face is lightweight and durable; full-stretch Polartec? Windbloc? middle layer is laminated between the face and interior fabrics
  • Interior grid construction provides wicking action; chin flap with fold-over zipper cover for comfort; neck-gasket closure has stretch woven drawcord casing for streamlined seal
  • Supplex? collar for moisture repellency and smoother layering surface; supplex windflap behind zipper
  • Zippered chest stash pocket; zippered handwarmer pockets are placed high for access when wearing a harness
  • No shoulder seams for comfort while wearing a pack; new, non-laminated R1? fabric (made with recycled polyester content) under the arms is stretchy for supreme breathability and mobility
  • Two drop-in internal pockets; partial elastic cuffs keep inside of wrists smooth and free of bulk; drawcord hem; regular fit
  • Imported.

Functional and efficient jacket!
The lightweight r4 is impressive. Despite its thin appearence and feel, it delivers great warmth. I am 6'1" 185 lbs. with wide shoulders and long arms. The XL fits well. If you are of similar height and weight without the neanderthal arms, I'd go with the L. This jacket works well in all weather conditions, and is great for cold weather biking when you need a windblocker. Looks great, slim profile, gets many favorable comments from the ladies. Very nice.

Another Great R4
My husband already owns an R4, but wanted something lighter for the spring. This jackets fits the bill. The lunar eclipse is a gorgeous shade of blue, and the slightly narrow cut very flattering.

A very nice jacket...
This is a terrific jacket. It's good looking, lightweight and more or less windproof. The one "complaint" I had read (before purchasing) was that the sleeves are a bit long. I would agree. I am a relatively tall/long armed person and the sleeves could easily be 1-1.5" shorter. Not a big deal but that would be my only dislike. Otherwise a good coat.

A winner!
Great all-rounder, warm and windproof...pits don't have a windproof laminate negating the need for pit-zips, so sometimes you can feel a gust sneak in there, but not a major issue and doesn't adversely affect the overall protection factor. Makes it great to layer under a shell with pit-zips in wet/severe conditions, therefore no need to worry about unzipping 2 sets of pit-zips to dump heat. Sleeves are slightly longer than I would have liked, so they tend to bunch at the wrists...but that helps if you wear them over gloves to eliminate wind from penetrating keeping heat loss from your gloves minimal...but makes you look like you have disproportionately long arms, who cares though..it's function over looks for the most part. Simple design, no clutter, very minimalist, very lightweight, packable, yet still has an enduring kind of style. I did have a zipper issue with the first one I ordered but altrec very quickly sent me a replacement jacket, which still had a minor zipper problem again..so I took it to a Patagonia store and they exchanged it for a perfect one. Patagonia is a great company and their stuff is top notch. I was also considering the Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Tech jacket but seems like everyone has that jacket already.

Good-looking and warm!
This is an essential piece to purchase for layering purposes or by itself. This jacket is very warm allowing virtually no wind to reach your body. It is cut fairly trim but allows for ample sleeve length. An all-around awesome piece!

Great Jacket
Patagonia's Mens Lightweight R4 jacket is an inimitable windproof fleece jacket. This season's improved fit and cooler P logo, are welcomed small details.(There is still no inside zippered security mesh pocket that could be so useful). Still, there is no match for warmth to weight ratio, compressibility, breathability, and durability. However, I bought (and reluctantly returned) a Medium in the beautiful Lunar Eclipse. Reason for returning it: sleeve length. I had the jacket on for only a few moments, and the accordion-like accumulation of excessive fabric around the cuffs made my wrists very warm right away. This, I suppose, it is or it isn't a problem--it depends on your built. (...Thinking about reordering and giving it another try since it's such a versatile piece). Buy from altrec with confidence.
