Great for hiking or around town
Just bought the Approach backpack II and my german shepherd loved it. The removable pack allows you to use the harness for around town. I highly recommend this backpack. We hiked the Adirondack Mt. and it sustained alot of abuse and still looks good.

Wonderful
This is one of the best things I have ever bought for Wilbur! Our 55 pound goldendoodle wears a small with some room to spare. Walks and hikes at the park are a pleaseant experience- Wilbur carries the water, poop bags and snacks. He walks with a loose leash when wearing his backpack and proudly shows it off to everyone. I would recommend it to anyone who is having trouble breaking their dog of pulling, or energetic dogs that need a lot of exercise.

Wonderful

I love this backpack!
I ordered the backpack, because I decided my pit bull and I needed to trek in the rainforest. So I ordered the backpack, picked expedited shipping and received it early! It held up in the muddy rough terrain, carrying everything. It didn't rub her, and barely hindered her. I was very pleased with the space provided in the pack, and the overall quality. Then again, Ruff Wear isn't know for faulty products. As for sizing, I got a small for my 51 pound pit bull. And it's as tightend as possible. If I had gotten the xsmall, it would fit nominally better, but by very little. The Harness also is very sturdy. I usually have a backup system to protect my dog from other dogs, by using a coupler linked to her collar. When ever she rushed ahead of me on the rocks, I was able to steady us both with this backup system. Overall, I'm very pleased!!!! I haven't washed it yet, but I have a feeling if you do it correctly, it'll hold up!

Good Job Ruff Wear!
This pack has it all! Great support, perfect balance, and roomy sidepacks. My Siberian and I do a lot of hiking in the wilderness areas of Montana and have never enjoyed a pack that performs as well as this one. One possible consideration from Ruff Wear would be to pad the shoulder straps. I did this after the first outing just because I wanted "Lily" to be more comfortable during a long haul. A product well worth the money!

This back pack is amazing!!

Love our packback.
I love that you make such a small backpack, I have mini Dachshunds and couldn't find anything that was small, until I found your company online. One suggestion would be to sew suede or leather on the bottom of the packs, so that they don't wear out so fast.It would be like human backpacks, the way they have a reinforced bottom. You would only have to do it on the small bred packs, as they are so close to the ground. Other then the wear issue I just love our backpack and my dog looks so cute in it! Thanks

Great Backpack!
This is the best dog backpack I have found! I use it on my service dog and it works great. The webmaster harness underneath makes the backpack fit great and very comfortable. The packs are the perfect size for day to day items.

great pack
fits my dog perfectly. From trail hiking to rock scrambeling, it stays in one place and doesn't hinder his range of motion. The handle on the back is great. The only problem is the rear strap padding liked to slip off easily when not buckled. But, a quick stitch fixed it.

Great pack for short walks
This pack is good for short walks only. I only take my dog on short walks in the park and put her own water bottle and mine in each pocket

good pack
This is a good pack. our dog is 45lb catahoula and the medium is still a little loose for her. my only suggestion for the pack is some padding for the front straps. in warm weather the straps rub on her chest and i had to make covers for the straps. otherwise we wears it with pride.

I love walking my dog's again
The Approach backpack is a nice product. I have a 6 month old miniature pinscher who used to drag me down the street and with the Approach backpack it keeps him working a little bit more and now I don't work so hard trying to control him. I really like the handle on the topside of the harness and find that I use it alot to assist him into the car. The harness fits well however because I am using the D ring on the harness to clip on the leash I find that the backpack will pull to one side or another. I am hoping to find a head halti for him instead. I also wish that this backpack was designed to allow the pack to be removed like the Palisade II. Overall a good product.

Approach II Pack
The packs pictured on this website are not the correct ones. They are the old models. This pack is a great pack, except for the fact that it's saddlebags are not quite as big as some other packs available. It also only has one zipper on each bag, which can be a pain. On the top, at the rear of the pack, there is a seam at the base of the grab handle. It rubs a spot on my dog's back. I had to line it with fleece, and it still messes up her fur there, and I imagine it can be uncomfortable if she wears it for long periods of time. THIS is a flaw that I feel the manufacturer should consider fixing. Other than those three things, though, the pack is a great pack! I LOVE the spiderweb harness. It makes it much easier for the dog because the pack doesn't restrict shoulder movement.
