Warm and super light
I bought a Mountain Hardware Butter Beanie to cover my balding head on cold morning runs. This piece does a fantastic job keeping the warmth in and the moisture out. If I get too warm, the beanie is small enough to easily stuff in a pocket.
Great product for an amazing price
I got the butter beanie to wear under my helmet while snowboarding on cold, cold days. I was worried that there weren't a lot of size options since I am a female with a pretty small head, but the regular size is just fine. It is so thin that even if I fold it up, it fits perfectly under my helmet (I wear a R.E.D. Reya). I also got one for my husband, who was having problems with cold air hitting his forehead through his front vents, and it completely solved his problem. It also works well to keep heat from escaping from your head when running outside on cooler days. Great Mountain Hardwear product!
Super soft and extra thin!
I am using it for workouts! I love it! It absorbs sweat and keeps my head nice and cool. It is definitely VERY thin. I have another MH beanie (microdome with Gore windstopper) that I wear outside in a cold - I would not wear this one.

nice low profile beanie
This fits under cycling helmets and is great for a light head cover solution. Sure nice fabric.
Great fit and perfect for wearing under a helmet.
I am a ski instructor and often have to teach when many people will not even go outside. The beanie worked out great under my helmet this weekend when it was -5 Degrees F with a wind chill of -25. I will probably pick up another one just to have on hand.
This little hat keeps you really warm!
You wouldn't expect this thin, lightweight hat to add much warmth, but you will be amazed. It keeps my head warm and toasty on long bike rides, even in 20 degree weather! A great value - highly recommend it. Buy more than one.
Great lightweight hat
Not the most flattering of hats but a great fit and perfect to stuff in your pocket taking up minimal space
Incredibly Compact
Even thinner than I imagined it would be. One thing: I wear a 7 1/8 size cap; this hangs just slightly long on my head for a fitted beanie. You can keep this in your pocket to always have available, but you won't even be able to tell it's there, it's that compact.
good gear!
light and compact , great for running when its chilly. I even wore it surfing in costa rica to keep the sun from scorching my mellon!
Very nice, thin, warm.
I was suprise at how thin this cap actually was. It easily fits under my bike helmet. It is very form fitting and warm. I have yet to test it's moisture wicking abilities, but I ancipate them as being quite capable.
Low Profile Versatile back pocket foul weather back up plan
I ride a bike 40 hours per week in Seattle in the rain. And I keep my Butter Beanie in my pocket. It's so low profile I can wear it under a cycling cap, under my helmet. It's a great base layer for your head.
Buy a bunch
Great product. Fits well under my hard hat or bike helmet. Very versatile in all weather conditions. Highly recommended. My favorite beanie.
Excellent Wicking
I sweat. I sweat a lot. When it's 25 degrees out, I still sweat. The Mtn. Hardware Butter Beanie pulls the moisture away from my head and lets it evaporate quickly. I've worn other hats and beanies and after 30 minutes I'm freezing b/c my headcover/protection is soaked and frozen. I'm not sure what kind of technology goes into these kinds of fabrics, but this is the best thing I've put on my head in a long time. While it's not a thermal beanie, which means you've got to stay moving to keep warm, your noggin' will stay dry: and that goes a long way in keeping you from catching a chill!

PS The Butter Beanie works under helmets fine as well.
Excellent undergarment
Great for light hiking and running/training in Southwestern Montana (Big Sky).
Great product with no cons.
In the colder months I kayak with either a cap or helmet.
I wear this under the cap or helmet and it really helps keep me warm (have a thin head of hair). Also helps prevent ice creme head pain after getting head wet.
Good value and excellent results.

Excellent!
I was looking for a thin layer to put between my short-to-no-hair head and ski helmit; this one does it, and is breathable too. Think of it as a do-rag for skiers. Since receiving it I can see other possible uses also. It is so small and light it easily can be carried with youin a pocket or small pack when not on your head. If I had written a spec sheet for what I wanted, it would describe this cap perfectly.
great for hiking/running
Only affordable MH equipment out there :) Normal hats can be too hot for heavy exertion. Beanie's however are great. Prevents frost-head too!
Great to wear with helmet
I use this hat for cold weather mountain biking. It fits perfectly under my helmet. The best part is that is regulates heat very well and my head never gets too hot. Great hat for winter riding!
Just the right weight
Husband wears this under his cycling helmet. Just right for California winter rides.
Excellent
This is a perfect hat for activities in the cold like running and XC skiing. Keeps your head warm without overheating, plus its extremely lightweight and comfortable. Though, the "Dark Adobe" is more brownish than it looks in the picture.
nice and soft
I really haven't used it yet. But it fits perfectly. Feels nice and smooth on my bald head. I figured I could use it for cool days and underneath my helmet for snowboarding or mountain biking. Love MH products.
Perfect active hat
This is a perfect weight for an active hat. It's my go to for foul/cool weather running, light weight hike/climb three season necessities, cycling back up, and the standard xc ski garb. Light, compact, breaths great, cuts the right amount of wind; no need to have more when less is good.
Nifty tuck-away hat
I bought the Butter Beanie to tuck into a corner of my backpack against the possibility of a cold, windy day on the trail. It weighs almost nothing and will fit perfectly under the hood of my jacket to keep the wind out and give me another layer. I hate having a cold head. It looks and fits a bit like a swim cap...thus not exactly flattering...but I think it will really fit the bill for how I want to use it.
Great product , but sized too small
The thickness and warmth is perfect for active pursuits. I only wish the hat was just a little bigger.
I pair this hat up with the "Butter Balaclava" when I go out for a run on cold and windy days.
Great for under bike helmet. Hat is very thin. Comfortable.
I sweat a great deal - especially by bold head. This hat keeps my noggin warm under my helmet during vigorous mountain bike ride in temps in the high teens in Montana. I did have to make a hat change an hour into the ride due to the hat being soaking wet. Fortunately I purchased 2 of these extremely light weight beanies. Beanie also keeps your headphones in place.
Keeps my brain warm
I've been getting alot of use out of this lately with all the frigid weather the east coast has been getting. I ski with a Giro G9 helmet and I've lost all the vent plugs. Normally this isn't a problem but on days with a -15 wind chill value I need an extra layer under my helmet. It's a base layer for your head.
Great, light, soft, compact hat
Perfect for under a helmet snowboarding or other activity and slipping into pocket when not in use. The only thing is that it's a little too long for smaller heads - I roll it up to fit right.
Thin and fits under helmet fine.
Although it is a bit tight it is thin and fits well under a helmet.
Very Thin, Like a
It doesn't interfere with my helmet at all and helps keep me warm. I don't even notice it's there most of the time. It's a little tight going on, but once it's adjusted all is good.
Great Product
This is a great product for wearing under a ski helmet for a little extra warmth. Easily tucks away in a pocket when not in use. Not too attractive on its own but that's not really the purpose!
great light weight warmth
This is a lightweight hat for those times when you want some extra warmth without the bulk of a normal beanie. Useful for active sports and those times backpacking when you're not sure if you'll need a hat but don't want to go without.
thin & comfortable
I like the feel of the beanie; however, since I keep my hair very short, didn't realize the beanie, which is a regular size beanie is too large. Just wish there would have been more colors and sizes available.
As far as keeping my head warm, works fine, use it for runs in the morning. Would recommend this product for someone looking for a light beanie that keeps your head warm, without overheating.
Useful, tiny, and warm.
I'm very happy with the little butter beanie. It is surprisingly warm for the small amount of material involved. Also stashes in almost any pocket or space.
Light but not warm
This hat is for wicking sweat not keeping you warm!
not what I expected
This hat is more like a du rag. If you don't mind the look of it, it is good for the fact that it can fit in even the smallest of pockets.
deceived
I ordered the beanie thinking that it was a winter type beanie to keep my head warm, it is actually just a spandex type beanie for wearing underneath something. I feel that the type/thickness of the cloth was not properly identified. It is good quality fabric, just not what I expected.
