Description of Nikwax: Tech Wash Fabric Care (33.8 fl.oz)
The effectiveness of any fabric's DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish is maximized by proper cleaning. Tech Wash is a non-detergent, biodegradable cleaner that protects the water-repellent finish on fabrics by removing water-attracting dirt, contaminants and detergent residues. When you wash garments in Tech Wash, NIKWAX waterproofing treatments last twice as long as they will when you wash with detergent soap. The highly effective cleaning agents in Tech Wash and its ability to rinse residue-free improve the performance of virtually anything made of fabric, fleece or synthetic insulation.

I use this as a stain remover too. Seriously. I've used this stuff for years and then was told by a local ski shop employee to try it on stains. It works. You just put a little on ANY stain, toss the garment into the wash and the stain is gone. Have no clue how it works and don't care...it just does.

Classy Cleaner Ideal for high tech clothing: waterproof/breathables,
windblocks, etc. Excellent cleaner with no residual detergent spots. The water-repellent finish clearly lasts longer with Tech Wash. AL

A Must for any Household Extremely effective on stains too. For pen marks and some paint smudges, just soak the area
in tech wash for 15-20 mins prior to cleaning. I have recommended this product for countless tasks. The oil based (polymers) are more effective than enzyme cleaners for some synthetics. Most stain removing products cost the same-this product has double the use!

Great stuff I have used this stuff for years. Definitely makes a difference if you want your waterproofing to last and if you plan to use one of the other Nikwax products to add water proofing or to extend water repellency.

It Works What more can you ask? It does just what it should, and isn't appreciably pricier than the other brands out there. Follow it up with a little of the Wash-In and you're good to brave the rain once again.

Really revitalizes I haven't washed my snowboard boots in about eight years (going twice a year each of those years)... for some reason, just never really hit me to wash them, just dry them out. Finally decided to do that this year and since my boots have a GoreTex lining, I decided to use this product to wash this (and the rest of my outfit). Besides the small amount that comes in this bottle, the product really does it's job and the lining seems to be able to keep me drier (blocking out water and letting out sweat). Also used this on my pants (which I DID wash regularly, but with ordinary detergent) and that made a difference! Ddefinitely more breathable since the fabric isn't clogged.

~~~ IT WORKS ON REMOVING STAINS TOO ~~~ No kidding it really does. Why they don't market it this way beats me. I just pour a small amount in the lid, apply it to the stain and then wash it. So far, everything I've applied it to has come out. Even used it to take out grease stains on silk and it worked perfectly. They're missing the boat by not advertising this quality. Oh, and yes, it's great too on all my outdoor garb.
Performs as Advertised--what more could you ask? When my Covercraft car cover gets dirty, it looses some of its waterproofing capability. Wash with this stuff and rinse properly, it comes back. And if you ever have questions for the manufacurer in England, you will get a gracious and prompt reply.
Jacket looks like new Mikwax cleaned my three year old jacket so well it looks brand new. The only compliant is that following the recommending usage you can only wash a maximum of 6 garments per bottle so if you have a lot of gear opt for the larger bottle.
Works great! Using this product restored the basic DWR to my Alpine Parka and helped restore the water repellancy to my fleece jacket, too. It's easy to use and works as advertised. This is definitely an item to repurchase as needed to help maintain the Polartec and Gore-Tex fabrics.
Great washer! I just washed some of my hard shell and polar tech jackets in this. It gets them nice and clean. I was using detergent but I noticed all the water repelency was quickly being removed for my jackets. Now I won't have to re-proof them so often.
good but expensive Non-detergent is required for this kind of fabric, but I can't see that this is that much better than any other non-detergent washing product. It's certainly more expensive.
works as advertised This is the right product to use if you plan to apply a waterproof treatment after wash. While it doesn't seam to clean quite as well as laundry detergent, it doesn't leave behind the soap residue that takes away from the waterproofness.
Cleansing Your Outdoor Waterproof Gear I had read all about how not to wash my Gore-Tex gear but until I found Tech Wash I was at a loss to find a pure soap liquid formulated for washing and cleaning a wide range of my outdoor clothing. The great thing about Tech Wash is that it can clean garments without damaging the waterproofing qualities of my gear. When I start losing the original waterproofing capabilities of my clothing I'll give Nikwax's TX Direct a try to reproof them and based on there description it should return them to a like new state.
Better than Granger I bought Granger's , recommended by Marmot, and Nikwax, recommended by Patagonia. It may be the original clothing, but the older Patagonia coat treated by Nikwax repels like new. The Marmot, washed by the Granger product doesn't.
Does a fantastic job!! I bought this to keep my tech clothing in good shape. So far so good. It cleans better than regular laundry detergent and the fabrics come out looking like new. There has been no deterioration in the DWR properties of my shell, fleece jacket and Nimbus Sombrero.
My only complaint, if it can be considered one, is the amount the manufacturer recommends using for the loads of laundry. I've cut back on the amount with no visible/appreciable difference in the cleanliness of the clothes.
Got coat really clean. The cleaner cleaned my coat, great with no annoying odors, or discoloration. I really think the value of this product will come in play, with preserving the wash-in treatment.
No problems, although could be cheaper No problems with this product so far. I have a softshell jacket (the Arc'teryx Gamma MX) and used this to wash my jacket before applying the DWR. Since I pay so much for my jackets to begin with, I figure it's worth it to try take care of them, and to be honest, I think I'm kind of obsessed with keeping them water proof. Be careful though because Nikwax's DWR washes off easily with warm water! Other than this, I don't have any reason yet to complain (except that I wish this stuff was cheaper).
Dry again I read about Nikwax Tech Wash in a Seatle Newspaper Magazine. It restored original waterproofing by pulling out the clogging caused by liquid detergent. I was getting soaked in our wet Cascade conditions. It made a big difference. Everyone should dry up. Thanks.
It cleaned my parka I washed a soiled parka with manufacturers instructions to use a non detergent soap. I heard about Nikwax Tech Wash so I tried it. I had to hand wash the parka in my tub. After several rinses and a thorough drying I can say the parka is about as clean as the day I bought it.
Super product! This product does what it states it is supposed to do. I followed the labeled instructions and washed my BMW motorcycle riding suit and Gore-Tex liner with Nikwax TX-Direct Tech Wash. It came out clean, smelling fresh and with no color fade which I was worried about. I would highly recommend this product and will purchase additional Tech Wash when needed. Although expensive, this product really works therefore, it's worth the price to properly care for your expensive gear.
Good Product! Nikwax did a good job (not the greatest on stubborn stains...recommend pre-treating for those)of getting rid of all the dirt and grime on my shells. As stated in other reviews, there is a bit of a chemical smell after coming out of the wash, but that quickly wears off. Made all jackets feel brand new again!!
Worked well to clean Aerostich Roadcrafter suit The Nikwax Tech Wash was used to clean off 9 months of road crud and bug residue from a motorcycle riding suit. The suit is made with a very heavy-duty Gore-tex/Cordura fabric and is supposed to be waterproof. The Nikwax wash is intended to clean the fabric without removing the waterproofing properties. I put the suit through two wash cycles and three rinse cycles since I was using soft water and the Nikwax wash foams up a bit. The suit came out nicely cleaned and a little less stiff. I have not had a chance to see if it is still waterproof.
Best Waterproofer I Have Found!!! I bought this NIKWAX to restore the waterproofing to my Range Rover car cover. It is the best product I have ever found...I have now washed all of my patio furniture cushions, the fabric of the awning over my patio, the patio table umbrella, 3 ski jackets, and I still have about half a bottle left!
Good-to-go-wash Outstanding wash for DWR finished wear. I've also used it for other items that should not be washed in other liquid detergents. Note, though, that the recommended amounts are quite excessive I've found -- less works just as well.
Amazing cleaner. I live on a boat and have washed the canvas in other products and have found this to be the best environmentally friendly cleaner for the canvas. It is amazing how well it cleans. The canvas looks almost new. I also love that it is biodegradable and have recommeded it to several other boaters.
