Description
If you tend to shy away from phrases like "it's a woman's all-mountain ski that's also light, flexible and durable" then you need to reconsider Atomic's Sugar Mama While other ski companies simply slap a couple of layers of titanium on a wood core, choose a one-size-fits-most sidecut and call it a premium all-mountain ski, Atomic's Sugar Mama rips conformity and convention. It features ten distinct soft flex zones called TFC sectors--six in front of the binding and four behind. The TFC sectors give the Sugar Mama extra flex while special nano reinforcement power channels add essential torsional rigidity for enhanced control on varied snow conditions. Previously applied in the space and auto industries, nano technology aligns individual atoms and molecules into ultra-thin coatings that create a surface 50 times harder and lighter than steel. The result is a dynamic and highly stable all-mountain ski that offers exceptional edge grip. We paired this Sugar Mama with Atomic's 4Tix 310 binding. It features Full Flex technology, a free gliding system that connects the heel piece to the toe piece with a durable and flexible steel band. The binding design keeps the ski beneath the 4Tix 310 from stiffening so the flex is always predictable and potentially more stable than traditional bindings. With added elasticity, this binding also helps keep the ski in contact with the snow on varied terrain, especially on high speed runs, so you stay in control through every turn down the mountain.

Love these skis I had Atomic Beta Carve skis (170cm) - these have similar precision but are much better in powder and crud. They also turn more easily. The only ones I tested were 150cm - maybe a bit short - but given what I read on Bumps for Boomers course at Aspen where they teach on really short skis - decided these were fine for me. I am an intermediate skier who likes challenges but not speed. They enabled me to explore much more of Big White mountain - in ungroomed powder and held up well on groomed intermediate slopes. I have yet to test steeper and smoother (like Granite Chief at Squaw Valley). The only place I slightly doubted them was on some heavier snow on a black run at Silver Star (under the Silver Woods lift) and I wondered if the back ski would turn - so I reversed to where it was smoother and I don't think I need have feared. So far the only place where I think they might have been slightly worse than my older Atomics is when I was leaning too far back and caught snow on the back of the ski in 6" of powder, but I didn't fall and it was easy to get centered again. The skis are great for getting a good rebound and rhythm. They seem trustworthy and precise.
