Let Gravity do the Work
March 08, 2012

I took this water filter on several backpack trips and every time somebody remarks on what a great filter this is. I couldn't agree more. All you have to do is fill up the bag with water and hang it on a tree branch near your campsite. Instantly, you have running water to fill up water bottles, wash hands, dishes, whatever. I can usually fill up about five liters of water at a time. This sure beats having to sit by a stream or lake and pump for ten minutes.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

A backpacking lifesaver
March 09, 2011

Buying this filter was one of the best things we did. MSR has another model as well which is slightly smaller and lighter, but where the water needs to be manually pumped. We debated between the two and finally settled on this. The filter is fantastic. It's very easy to assemble, folds up into quite a small package that can be squeezed easily into a corner or the backpack. When we pass by a water body, all we do is fill the bag and hang it up on a tree as hte water filters through. Effortless, and a great opportunity to just have a break for a few minutes while the water filters and refills! The bag has 4L, which is plenty. The water flows fast, and takes about a minute per litre. This filter has totally transformed our backpacking experience by taking away the worry about water. It's an essential.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Sweet device, sweet deal, sweet water!

High quality materials and build as expected from MSR. Works great! Sooo easy to use: fill, hang, drink and be merry. Filters fast so you can fill everyone's bottles and bladders quick. Haul 4 liters back to camp, hang on a tree and it's like having your own spring. Could easily see this thing handling large group hikes etc.

Used on float trip in Alaska. Started water as soon as we decided on campsite. Had water when we were ready never had to wait(after: wood, tent, rafts, gear, game taken care of). While we never had to wait - not for those who need immediate access to water. Overall should be in every kit bag because it works while you are busy with other chores.
