Lightest Trail Runners
May 19, 2011
I've been running in these shoes for about two months now and I love them. The biggest pro? THESE SHOES ARE SO SO SO LIGHT! The last 5k I raced, my start buddies thought they were racing flats and were surprised when I told them they were actually my trail runners :) Unfortunately, there are some issues. Although they don't slip off of MY heel, they really are borderline too wide back there. If I put in my inserts, they do slip and the next half size up is just way too long in the toebox. With strength training I've found that running with the bottoms the shoe came is manageable. The bottoms do a good job of keeping stuff out while breathing very well, I just wish they were a little more grippy for those sketch surfaces. NB has actually come out with another shoe just like this one but with stickier Vibram soles, but you can buy these 101's on Altrec for $40-50 cheaper than the new NBs... Added bonus: they're actually kind of cute so I wear them a lot around town with jeans, to the dog park, wherever.
Pros: lightweight, stylishGreat minimalist trail shoe

So far I am loving the NB WT101. I have worn the fivefingers in past and wear the Saucony Kinvara for road runs. So I would recommend that if you are moving from "regular" shoes to these that you build up your time/mileage in them slowly. The NB WT101's are very lightweight but good sole for dirt roads/trails and moderate rocky terrain. Roomy toe box. The laces stay in place due to their design. I did have to order a 9.5 which in my Salomon trail shoes and the Saucony's I wear a 9.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, lightweight
