My dream shoe for winter
December 04, 2012
I live in snow country on the eastern slopes of the North Cascade Mts in Washington State. For the last 3-4 years I have tried all kinds of ways, with no luck, to keep my feet warm and dry while enjoying trail running\walking and snowshoeing in winter conditions. I always end up with wet, cold feet. Not anymore! These shoes are absolutely fantastic! They have the flexibility I want, great traction (although I haven't had them on serious ice conditions yet), low 4mm heal-toe drop, and best of all is the built in gaiter. The gaiter keeps out the snow and wet and help keep my feet dry and warm while wearing only a lightweight x-country ski sock. I normally wear a size 9.5. I ordered a 10 because I knew I would wear a little thicker, warmer sock. The 10s work but are almost too small. I'm a 59 yr old woman and I log 20-25 miles per week during winter. One spot of potential weakness is the area just above the sole and sides of the shoe not remaining entirely waterproof. I think the crunchy snow is slowly wearing off a bit of the shoe's waterproofness. If an area about 1" up the sides of the shoe was made from super waterproof material it should eliminate this problem. Perhaps a future design could correct this. In the meantime they are the best thing out there. I highly recommend them.
