Enhance your workout time outdoors with Nike's innovative and patented Free Trail 5.0 running shoe. Developed to optimize foot extension for serious and competitive runners, the Free 5.0 series emphasizes a light, deep flexing, shoeless sensation that strengthens your feet with the same natural range of motion you would experience running barefoot. The big differences you'll find in the Free Trail 5.0 are the stabilizing Transpan along the upper, the low-profile Phylon midsole with a bit more cushion for uneven surfaces and an aggressive outsole (by Free 5.0 standards) with extra rubber grip pods and lugs for more traction.
best shoe
these are the best shoes ever they give u heaps of support in they are so light on your feet it feels like you are running bare foot
great show for some
This is a great shoe, lightweight, protects the foot from rocks, but I realize that it isn't for everybody! My feet are flat to low, and I run neutral on the right and slightly pronate with my left, and in these shoes I run faster then I ever have before! I've run on regular terrain and technical rocks like in Bandera. They protect my feet as good as a heavy Montrail shoe, and they hold up.
A great shoe if used carefully.
I love these shoes. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn-period. I wore them around the house for the first two weeks I owned them, as advised in the provided "training schedule" and then slowly built up to a few short runs per week and gradually added more mileage. I highly recommend purchasing these shoes before your current pair absolutely requires replacing so you too can gradually ease into the Free.
These shoes are very different from a typical trainer-much less cushioning than you are probably used to and they truly allow your foot to function "unimpaired". I would also venture the opinion that only neutral gaited runners would be able to safely run high mileages in these shoes, but I don't know that for an absolute fact. I plan on alternating mine every other day or so with my North Face Endurus XCR. Despite the lack of traditional cushioning I consider the Frees to have a very smooth, low impact ride because my foot lands so "flat" and natural.
The other thing that should be mentioned about the Free Trail is it does not offer the "beef" of a typical trail shoe-it lacks the toe and bottom of the foot protection typical of the breed. I don't feel it would be optimum for very rocky/jagged terrain but is great otherwise-they give me the best feel for the terrain I've ever experienced.
If you are a fairly neutral runner and ease into them these are an amazing, lightweight shoe probably best used in conjunction with another trainer/trail shoe depending on your needs.

Very comfortable
These shoes feel great. Wish they had half sizes. These are size 15. A little too big. Fourteens were too small. They are extremely comfortable.
Great shoe/Awesome price
Being a Clydesdale I can appreciate a great shoe. I've been into the FREE runner style and barefoot ideals for the past year. Never have a pair of shoes made my feet, ankles, knees and hips feel so good. Other than the shoes arriving in a color close to the description, but not exact, I am still very pleased with them. I can't wait to burn these out and get another pair.
fleet feet are a now a possibility with these slimfit supershoes
The thought of tearing off road with naked hooves is too troublesome to bear. I needed just a wee spot of protection. I bought the free trail because the idea of working my feet in a real world, almost Zola Budd situation was beaucoup appealing and it has proven to be the only way to fly. Close to the ground, feather light, minimalist running bliss might begin to describe it.
Great fit, feel and comfort!
The most comfortable pair of shoes I own. It feels as if you don't have any shoes on at all. Very light weight and form fitting. I love them!
Awesome Shoes
I really love these shoes. They fit well and are extremely comfortable. I have not been a Nike fan for years but liked the looks, tried them and I am sold! I highly recommend them!
Nike Free Trail
Fantastic running shoes! I'm very satisifed with the quality.
Instant Performance!
I recently had back surgery (discectomy) and just got back into running and a local triathalon. I thought it would take a few runs to adjust to this shoe but I started with a 5k anyway. My feet have never felt better! They were superbly responsive and have already helped shave some time off my training runs. The additional duty/delivery costs are rough, but it was still a good deal.
GREAT SHOES
I use these shoes everday and they are the best shoes I have. i would tell everyone to get a pair. three of my buddies have also bought them ad agree.
rediscover your feet
I have had a pair of nike free's for just over a day an my feet are feeling better than ever.
Great shoe, comfortable and sturdy
I was worried about the stability of the Nike Free shoe, but this model, designed for offroad, have a thicker bottom and more solid feel. While the upper is light and comfortable.
excellent and comfortable shoe
This is the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. The support is good and they are so light weight that they feel as though you are not wearing any shoes at all. I highly recommend them plus the customer service from Altrec.com is outstanding.
most comfortable nikes ecer!
as a nike brand loyal consumer, i have never been disappointed by any nike product. but these nike free trails are awesome! as a "barefooter", these come as close as anything to be barefoot when running or walking. they get my highest recommendation!
Comfortable
I don't run too much anymore, but I walk my dog daily. From the moment I put them on they fit perfect. I usually have a little trouble with a heel rub, but the way these soft lightweight shoes are built, I'll never have a fit problem. I have 2 pairs now.
excellent shoes
the most comfort ever!
Great shoe!
These shoe are great. Our comppany was involved with some product development. The idea of less shoe and relying on the bodies musculature is fantastic!
must buy
This show takes a minute to get used too, but ones you get the feel you wont want to take them off. Most compfortable shoe I have ever worn. Very light, doest even feel like you are wearing shoes. Good for running on trails, cement or even tred mill. The only concern i have about the shoe is that the back is very thin, but still supports ankle.
This is a great product
I think it is one of the most comfortable shoes nike has made. I have purchased 5 shoes in this line and love it. Its a bargain at this price. I couldnt find too many places with the selection and size availibility. Grab them while you can
Very comfortable from the start. Adequate support
I only have a few dozen miles on these so far but they rank up with the top 3 or 4 running shoes I have used. I am over 200 lb and have not run on trails yet so I will get back to you on how well they hold up!
amazing shoe
great feel. great look.
i have never had a shoe that is this light, with this amount of comfort. its motivated me much more to get out and run, because i feel more comfortable with them, and myself. i can feel the improvement in my training.
wonderful shoe
i bought these for my husband and he loves them....so comfortable and attractive too....very pleased with altrec's service
Excellent
Excellent shoe and the delivery was fast and without misfortune. Congratulations.
This is my favorite shoe ever!
The reason I purchased this pair of shoes from Altrec is because I had purchased a pair a few months ago and I wanted to get a second pair before they change the style--as has always seemed to happen whenever I found a pair of running shoes I liked. So these are backup. I wouldn't mind having dozens of pairs and never having to wear another pair of shoes again. I think that says it all. They're light weight, totally comfortable. great support (even for a person with fallen arches who should be wearing orthotics probably), look good, slip on and off easily, and are wearing well. I mostly wear them for treadmill, weights, hiking and walking around town. I prefer them with thin socks than with bare feet but they're okay bare too. I bought the men's style because of the color, but I tried on the women's version and they felt the same. I've been working out and buying running shoes for 34 years now so you could say I've sample a few pairs!
Super Comfortable!!!!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoy this shoe. We are not runners but use them for walking and just as our weekend hangout shoes. Very comfortable and supportive. I was especially impressed with receiving a phone call the following day of placing my order online from a customer service rep. with Altrec to confirm my order. We will be back!!
Like a second skin.....
These shoes are the best thing ever happened to my feet. I have a *modest* size 15 and usually I don't get nike's in this size, these fit like a second skin. Though they weight almost nothing, the can easily absorb my landings (6'8"in height (2.03 meter)/ weighing 267 pound (120kilo)). Shoes have a nice width fit.
Only drawback: international shipping, the incredible amount of shipping cost and ups rip-off rates. I hope altrec will consider standard mail as an option.
I rather wait 3 weeks than pay more than twice tyhe price of the shoes.
THE POSSIBLY PERFECT SHOE
Not only is this shoe extremely comfortable, but it's visually pleasing as well. Great for working out, walking, shopping, casual day at work. Great for people with flat feet. Don't need socks. It fits like a glove- great color combinations. I own two pair and would love even more.
great steps
light - and comfortable - very very nice steps. altrec was quick with the shipping (which was free!). im impressed.
Great shoe
I am a very large runner (240) and thought this shoe wouldnt hold up to my size. Boy has it delivered. I use to have cronic low back pain when running despite streching for what seemed like hours. Since wearing this shoe I have zero back pain and no pain in my knees (Ive had six knee surgeries due to being a paratrooper in the army). Great shoe and highly recommended.
very good shoe
this shoe makes my foot feel so comfortable while working out. one of the best products Nike offers.
Great shoe
These shoes deliver. They are everything that Nike promises. But, don't forget the foot powder. After a few weeks, you'll be puttin' these dawgs on the porch for some air. But hey, think about all the socks you won't be washing.
Great Shoe
I have been a personal trainer for 15 years now and have tried every shoe out there. I have reciently tried the Nike Free, Running, and Cross Trainer. The trail shoe is by for the most comfortable shoe I have worn to work and workout in.
Very good value
Light, comfortable, and very packable -- this latter an essential for those who like me are travelling a great deal.
good shoes, but kind over peronation so try shoes before you bu
very light and sturdy
A great casual and light running shoe
I found the Nike Men's Free Trail 5.0 running shoe to be great to knock around in and for light running in good conditions. Because of the suede uppers, I am not certain I would use them in really adverse weather conditions.
real comfortable shoe
shoe is very lightweight and comfortable on foot. No 'break-in' period required. A little difficult to put on foot as it doesn't have a tongue like most shoes, but once it's on, it feels great.
Good so far
I haven't run in the Frees yet, but have worn them around. I generally wear lightweight trainers when I run and find these to be comparable. The Trail Frees that I have seem a bit more durable in some of the material in the back of the shoe. The regular Frees seem like they would rip easily.
Good Lightweight Trainer
If used correctly this shoe is a great training tool. Very lightweight and its stripped down design will strengthen your lower body by putting more pressure back into the legs. Not recommended for serious runners, but very useful in the gym or on short training runs. Unique design and great addition by Nike!
Shoe is light and stylish. Great free shipping!!
This shoe is not only great on the trail, but also in the weight room and track.
A good light trail shoe.
I like the Nike Free Trail very much. The only thing I don't like about them is the color scheme. I thought they would be blue/grey, with a bright yellow swoosh, but they are all grey with a florescent yellow swoosh. Aside from that they're very nice.
Tried it. Like other trail running shoes much better.
I try a lot of different shoes and bought this shoe on the recommendation of others. I wanted to see how good it was. I'm not impressed. Inov8's trail running shoes are much better.
