Nike Men's Toketee Mid Water Shoe

Nike ACG's innovative Toketee Mid is designed like a water sock inside an athletic sandal, but the flexible, low profile outsole provides far better tactile feedback than any rigid sole platform. Engineered for use in and around small watercraft, the Toketee Mid has a rounded heel and padding along the medial forefoot for better foot protection and comfort while waterborne. Three independent adjustment areas along the forefoot, middle and heel give you the versatility to dial in a perfect fit that surpasses anything found in conventional water sock designs.

  • Four-way stretch Neoprene upper with adjustable forefoot strap
  • Wet/dry sticky rubber sole
  • Middle strap has Velcro closure for enhanced fit and support around medial padding
  • Heel strap features an adjustable hook-and-loop closure
  • Low profile outsole for barefoot-like tactile feedback
  • Rounded heel for comfort/placement in boats and kayaks

Far better than booties
I've owned a fair number of different kinds of water shoes that I use for kayaking. These Nike Toketee shoes far surpass all the others. Most of them give you a sloshy feel once you walk in them when they're wet. This shoe stays put like it's supposed to. It's low profile enough that it will fit in tight spaces, but never lacking in support. In fact, that may be the only downside. If you're exhaused when you take these shoes off, you may find them a little difficult to remove. They don't just fall off like the old sloshy booties did. I'm certainly happy with the Nike Toketee, and I highly recommend them.

awesome shoe
I wear these in my NDK explorer and my whitewater playboats. They are awesome shoes. Very stable on rocky portages or over sand dunes and flexible enough to fit in small boats. Highy recommend them.

Better than expected.
Traded in a brand new pair of NRS Paddle Shoes for the Nikes. Once these are on, they are on. No filling with H2O and falling off while swimming. Not too bulky either. Great deal.

A great water shoe!
I bought these to use for kayaking. I kept kicking out of my sandals when climbing back into my boat. My problem has been solved with the Toketees. They also provide good traction on wet surfaces. All of the straps provide a great snug fit.

Best River Running footwear ive used.
Had a pair of 5.10 Nemos that were great but fell apart after a couple of seasons. Couldnt replace them as the English distributor has dropped 5.10 (probably fed up of high number of returns). Searching the shops in the UK i could only find tevas which don't offer a high bootie that protects the ankle bone (essential on hard portages) with a solid sole and snkle support. A few kayaking chatrooms had recommendations for the Toketee Mid, searching the web found altrec offering a good price, although i had to pay extortioante import tax £20 ontop of the £65 purchase and shipping price im well chuffed. The boots are comfortable, the sole is grippy on wet and dry rock & grass. Their small enough to get in my kayak (Necky Blunt) with no problems. Very pleased, hopefully they will outlast the previous 5.10s. The only downside to these boots is the 3 straps that take time to undoe and retighten when putting the boots on, but once on their is no way you will loose these should you take a swim.

Great Water Shoe
I use the Toketee Mid in my whitewater kayaks. The shoes fit snuggly, provide good traction and reasonable support while portaging, have a low profile in the boat, and fit snuggly enough to stay on if you're unfortunate enough to swim. The shoes drain well enough but they are neoprene and don't dry quickly.

Great shoe. It allows you to scout on rock without risking your life. Keeps its shape when dryng so it doesn' t stink. Wonderful adjustments for a great fit. I bought them at the recommendation of another boater, since then three people who I boat with have bought them. Everyone loves them.

great kayak shoe
This is a very comfortable shoe in and out of the water, and your boat. I feel this is the best shoe for decked boating(kayaking) I,ve ever used. Ankle support, and a nice touch of the sole to keep your heel comfortable in the kayak. However, open boaters who kneel(canoes)in whitewater playboats with footpegs the sore toe factor is still an issue, for me anyway. Overall these shoes rock!!! Like the other reveiws say, they really do look cool too. After a long days paddle on my favorite Class III stream. I can still walk to the river party, and i have heard more than one time, from all kinds of boaters. HEY, COOL SHOES. I grin and toast them, and tell them how they too can log on to ALTREC.com and get you some. See ya on the river with your Nike ACG Toketees

Best water shoe out there!
I am a kayaker with big feet (15). Nike helped me out by making them this big. They are pretty much true to fit. I wear a thin smartwool sock with them sometimes. My feet are never cold and I could hike many miles in these. Best of all, these look really cool and come on, thats what its really all about ;) Im looking for fellow kayakers to paddle with. Im moving to Sylva, NC on 10/01/04.

I love these shoes!
Right after I recieved these shoes I ran the Cresta run on the Feather river. The put in is class IV+ carry that many people use a rope to repel down to the river. These shoe grip like glue and the don't slide around on my feet. I walked on moss covered rocks that looked slippery but I was amazed that my feet didn't slip at all.

Good fit and heel support
Do your heels get sore in the kayak because they rest on edge? These boots have cup support that wraps up and around the heel for all-day comfort in the bottom of the boat. They have good grip on rock, enough support and protection to walk on rock, and drain well. Downside is a lot of hook-and-loop straps to deal with to get in or out of them, but the fit is snug.

Love them
I have to admit these are the first water shoes I've owned and I love them. They're flexible enough to use in a kayak but solid enough to walk to portages areas without any problems. I've used them in mucky mud and rocky rivers and they worked great. I ordered a man's size 5 (I wear a woman's 7) and they fit great - even with my narrow feet because they can be adjusted. Found myself in riverside mud halfway up my calf and never got close to losing them. My boating friends are all envious. Even bought a pair for my boyfriend who loves them too.

Awesome!!!
Can't say enough about'em. These shoes are great. I've used them for about a week now in a few different types of water and they performed like a champ. From rivers to portaging through murky water and muck in a swamp. I wear a size 11.5. I first ordered a size 11 and they were a little tight so I went up to a size 12 and they fit perfect. Very pleased with them.

Perfect for Seadoo Riding!
I bought these shoes specifically for riding a Seadoo PWC. They lived up to my expectations and performed very well. They did leave marks on the Seadoo, but they easily washed off. They drain very well when you get water in them. They kept my feet reasonably warm in the cold water. I could only buy a size larger than what I wanted, but they still fit OK, plus now I have room for neoprene socks should I ever need extra warmth.

Excellent
I wear these when kayaking rivers, resevoirs, and kayak surfing. Very comfortable, even for extended wear. The strapping system grabs your foot quite securely, and I don't worry about them slipping off in surf or whitewater.

The best water shoes I've ever had.
Great support, adjust in all the needed areas to create a custom fit. Drain really good. Great out of the water on rock, sticky rubber and stiff bottom support with good ankle support make them very comfortable. The high tops keep the unwanteds out. Only downside is that sand and small rocks get into the drain holes at the beach.

Great Shoe
I bought the Nike ACG Toketee mid because I wanted shoe that would move with me. I went the Southern Oregon Coast and tried out my shoes for the first time there. Even on the very slick rocks on the ocean, I had control. I also used my shoes in fins. They fit very well and the strap on top was not painful to the top of my foot. The only problem I had with the shoe was that the vent holes are wide enough to allow sand and small rocks in, but that is not the primary function of this shoe is it?

Excellent water shoe
This shoe is one of the most well thought out products that Nike has ever produced. The multiple straps really adjust the fit to your foot, and the traction on submerged, algae covered rocks is like walking on dry land.Out of the water, they are just as adept at climbing or hiking.A truly diverse product from Nike

The insiders view of the ULTIMATE ON WATER SHOE!
I just wanted to give the quick insiders view on the Toketee Mid. I had the pleasure of being a large part of design and can say that the Nike ACG design team is second to none. The rubber was chemically engineered in the Nike labs at Nike world headquaters to be the stickiest rubber out there and I can confidentally say that it is! I have used it in some serious situations and it makes kayaking safer! The support system is second to none. It is low profile, has three points of support and allows you to RUN down the rocky shores of rivers without worrying about your ankles. The primary point of support is across the top of the foot and was inspired by a surfboard leash. It uses industrial grade velcro that wont ware after time in the water and sand. The low profile support system doesn't get in the way of kayaking when in the boat. The booties have drainage points around the bottom of the bootie and allow your feet to breath. The outsole is countoured for a sleek fit and the in-sole is textured to keep the foot from slipping at all in the bootie. The bootie is essentially a small addition to your foot to keep you safe and comfortable on the river. I strongly urge everyone to try a pair and if you want to be safe on the river then buy a pair! If you have any trouble fitting into your kayak then pull everything out of the front of the boat and use the booties to lock your feet in. They have isolated sections of padding to comfort your feet in those tight fits. I hope to see you all in a pair SOON! PS DID I MENTION THAT ACG DONATES MONEY TO FIRST DESCENTS, A KAYAK CAMP FOR YOUTH CANCER PATENTS, FOR EVERY PAIR SOLD?

Great design, adjustability, grips well.
Gear Review: Nike ACG Toketee Mid by Scott Brovsky/www.wildway.org Pulling the new Toketee Mids out of their box, I was immediately impressed by their cool design and the understated colors. The Toketee comes in full sizes only--there are no half sizes. My foot is between an 11-12 depending upon shoe brand and sport. I tried an 11 and found it fit like my climbing shoes. Some water folk may like a really tight fit, if so, go for the size below your normal. As my foot is fairly wide, I found the 12s much better. The Toketees are lightweight and feel good on the foot. Loosening the strap that wraps from the toes over the top of the foot made for a great fit. Speaking of adjustments, the Toketee Mid is amazingly adjustable. Heel slipping? Just tighten the heel strap or the large strap that crosses your ankle. With so many adjustments, these babies will never come off when you are involuntarily separated from your craft or swimming (at least they didn't in my swim tests). In portage tests and some creek scrambling, I found the soles to grip extremely well--I wish my mountain bike tires gripped like the Toketees. The fairly aggressive, raised tread does a good job of reaching rock through the muck, slime and algae that cover many river and creek rocks, especially in the slower moving water closer to the shore. In an ocean kayaking test, they did well in sand and on the rocks at low tide. I appreciated the ankle coverage with the extra padding over the ankle bones--it did a good job of protecting my ankles from cuts and scrapes in a little bushwhacking test and also in a waterfall scramble. In short, I found the Nike ACG Toketee Mid to be a versatile and comfortable shoe. For those of you going on longer trips with some exploring away from the kayak/river, you might ask, should I leave my trail runners/sports sandals at home? I did about a mile hike away from the river and found the Toketees to do well on dry land. I wouldn't recommend a long hike or run since they are not heavily cushioned in the soles. This is not a gripe since this is not what the shoes are designed for and obviously you couldn't comfortably fit a plush soled shoe in your kayak anyway. The other cool feature that gives this already great shoe an edge over the competition is that Nike ACG will donate a portion of the proceeds of the sale of each pair of Toketee Mids to a very cool camp called First Descents (http://www.firstdescents.com/). The camp was founded by kayaking phenom Brad Ludden and it provides week long kayaking camps for kids with cancer. Stay tuned to wildway.org for our updates on the Toketee's durability as we wear them over the next couple of years. The Lowdown-- Pros: Great design, adjustability. Grips well on a variety of surfaces including slimy river rocks. Good in sand, silt and mud. Cool, understated colors. Cons: For those of you who are sensitive to pebbles in your shoe, the air/water vents let in some small particles. I don't know if making these breather/water release holes a little smaller would cure this small issue or merely ruin the already great water dispersion when you pull the Toketee out of the water and take your first step on land or rock.

very good fit for jetski, comfy and fast draining
i got these to ride my jetskis. i bought them as snug as possible, the neoprene hugs my foot really good. but they do seem to be rather narrow shoe, good for my feet and wearing shoes without socks!! and the neoprene stretches nicely. PROs: great fitting for all day riding, no blisters or rub rashes. very grippy, take longer to put on but worth it. much better than your average neoprene booty. drain real fast. CONs: drains will let in some sand if walking on beaches, but not bothersome. front strap is not really necessary. do not expect awesome ankle support, they are not that solid. very flexible compared to your average running shoe or hiking boot. the heel seems to have been designed for tight fits inside kayaks instead of for broad stability for walking or climbing. these shoes remind me of the wrestling shoes i used to wear in the water just made with neoprene! similar style for extra foot agility and not for long hikes. overall i would recommend them as the best shoe i have found so far for jetskiing, but still not what i really am searching for, a light weight hiking boot, aka high top boot with good ankle support but made for the water!

Excelent water shoe
Used this shoe for a long weekend trip on the Yuba river in the Sierra Nevada. It performed excelently. They are a little awkward to get on until you get used to them but function quite well in and out of the water. Extremely good traction. Used them to do a little bouldering in fact. The one draw back was that they let in a little more fine sand than I would have liked ( I would have liked no sand in them . But I have yet to see almost any shoe accomplish that. Overall they did an excelent job. Wish I had two Pair

Most solid water shoe I've used
Fits like a glove for your feet! Comfortable and sure footed in water, doesn't twist around on your foot as you climb around rocks and walk in stream beds. All the straps require a few moments to get them all adjusted right, but very secure. Shoe is a bit snug to get on and off, especially with neoprene socks. The inside is smooth and once you get them adjusted, very comfortable to wear for extended periods. Great for exploring canyons and revines, as well as any boating/watersports.

Comfy and rugged
These shoes definitely perform as advertised. They are comfortable. Nike strikes a good balance between providing enough toughness in the soles to protect your feel when walking around on rough trails, while maintaining enough flexibility for letting you get comfortable in a kayak. The multiple straps are a bit annoying when you put them on, but well worth it---unlike some water shoes, these will not slip off if/when you find yourself kicking around in the water! True to Nike's reputation, these shoes run a bit narrow, which is a frustration for people like me with wide feet. However, given the flexible Neoprene upper it doesn't actually cause that much of a problem.

Great shoe for water sports
I've worn these shoes several times now and really like them for their function and fit. I ordered a slightly larger size so I could wear thick socks. I was able to even wear thick synthetic socks and neoprene socks comfortably. The shoes have enough stretch, so that the seem to fit fine, no matter what socks I wear, and never felt tight. The sole is incredibly sticky, allowing me to walk on my wet boat, scramble over wet boulders, and walk up very steep slabs of rocks. Walking in loose sand is like, well, walking in loose sand. The sole is narrow, and fits well into small foot wells found in may Sit-On-Top kayaks. I did not have any trouble with sand entering the ports. The top velcro strap system is secure, possibly over-engineered. The back velcro strap made little difference to me, but may be more valuable to others on their feet. The forward nylon strap and buckle tended to losen up on their own, due to the slick, low tooth texture of the nylon strap. I haven't found or seen any other shoe I would rather have for all manner of water sports.

Best Aqua shoe I've used
This is by far the best aqua shoe I've owned and I've tried a few. The high cuff prevents sand and pebbles from entering, but the 3 way adjustment make on/off a breeze, even when worn over my gore-tex drysuit socks. Also does a good job of supporting my foot.

These boots were comfy, yet seemed loose at the top of the ankle, I don't know if sand would get down. Despite the multiple fasteners, didn't provide much ankle support.

to tight
I have to say I was pretty impress when I saw the booties for the first time on-line. The description was great, it seems that they had done a great job to make this one comfortable, secure to the foot and with good material. The only problem, nike makes their shoes to narrow. If you by a size twelve shoes most likely you will have a large foot. My idea of putting a bootie on, is usually not follow by sweating because it is so hard to put your foot in it. I let a river guide friend of mine borrow it. He could not even fit one bootie over is foot. I bought these booties one size bigger so it would fit over my dry-suit socks. Not a chance! I guess that will teach me to by on-line.
