Intended as a trail runner for the longest of long distances, some owners took the original Nike ACG's Air Zoom Steens much further--and higher--in places normal trail running and light hiking boots rarely leave footprints. Nike's new Women's Air Zoom Steens II fits the same critically-acclaimed mold for cushion, traction and protection, but features an enhanced outsole with varied rubber compounds for grip that lasts longer than the first version. Unlike some trail running shoes that focus on waterproof uppers, the Air Zoom Steens II uses a combination of slightly water-resistant textile and leather inserts, so it's best for fair and overcast weather, but the overall price is substantially lower than high-performance trail running shoes with similar features. A molded TPU stability arm along the upper helps improve the overall support, especially on uneven trail surfaces. Beneath the dual Zoom Air compartments in the Phylon midsole is an enhanced sole design that pairs Nike's sticky rubber All-Trac with a harder compound tread that won't shred or wear away like 100% sticky rubber running sole designs. Over the long routes, this improvement adds up to more mileage for your running dollar.

  • Fast-drying textile upper with leather reinforcements and a molded TPU stability arm
  • 3/4-length Trailframe support along sole for enhanced stability and protection
  • Supportive dual-density Phylon midsole with separate Zoom Air Cushion compartments in heel and forefoot
  • Enhanced Nike All-Trac sticky rubber outsole with harder rubber compound in key abrasion areas to improve durability

Soles Mark Up Hard Surfaces
December 22, 2005

I was really happy with the fit, I have woren Nikes forever it seems. I was very disappointed that this sole was marking up everything though. My hardwood floors can't take it anymore and I am having to buy new shoes now after just one month. I might have just gotten lemons, but this is a HUGE problem for me.

I absolutely Love Them !!!
March 14, 2006

I have a shoe fettish so I have about 300 pairs of different footwear. But I have to say these are very comfortable as I wore them shopping for quite a few hours and my feet actually didn't hurt. And I have received many compliments on them they are a good looking shoe in appearance and color. I am very pleased with them.

Light, run comfortably when wet, dry quickly.
March 09, 2006

However, the heel cup is too tall/high and not soft enough (pinches my achilles tendon). Also, I find the sole slippery on wet rocks, causing me to lose confidence in my stream hopping ability. I wish I had found them at this price! This is my first pair of Nike running shoes. I usually wear Asics for road and Vasque for trail.

Pretty Good for Shorter Trail Runs
September 22, 2005

I bought this shoe for shorter trail runs, 10-15 miles, and because Altrec had a price special on it at the time I bought it. It was an amazing deal. I don't think I'd wear this shoe for more than 20 miles because it isn't as comfortable as my Montrails. Things I like are the wide toebox, grippy sole, the cushioning, and the fit of the heel. The cushioning is just right for hard-packed trails. Overall I was surprized by the nice ride. It will be interesting to see how these wear with my orthodics.

Lightweight, flexible, nice cushioning
February 25, 2006

These shoes are very light weight and flexible in the sole. They also have great cushioning. For some reason they make the front of my feet fall asleep while I am running. I think this is because the upper of the shoe does not bend like the botton does.

Great Buy!

I love my new Steens. They are very comfortable and a well made shoe. Ordering from for the first time was very convienient. Not only did they make it easy but I also receieved a great discount when I ordered the shoes. My shoes arrived before expected which was another added bonus. Thank you! I'm looking forward to doing more business with altrec in the future.

Great shoes that look good!
January 25, 2006

These shoes impressed me with their comfort and style. They were extremely comfortable from the moment that I put them on-- incredible arch support and cushion. They also look good enough to wear with jeans-- an all around great shoe.

Comfortable trail running shoe.

Provides great traction. During a recent run in icy conditions, my boyfriend couldn't keep up!

Happy with the shoes and Altrec. First order, not the last.

I was looking for a winter running shoe for Michigan winters. After reading several reviews, I'm glad I decided on the Steens II Trail shoe. They're so affordable and comfortable it's like they've already been broken-in. I also love the high arch support and the compliments. I'm truly a happy customer. Thanks for everything!

Uncomfortable in the toes
June 26, 2006

I have owned only Nike running shoes since I was a xcountry runner in high school. That's been nearly 20 years loving Nike. This is my first trail running shoe but I would assume the fit would be the same as a running shoe. When I first tried them on and wore them around the house, my toes seemed a little numb, but I thought I needed to break them in. (I called Altrec and they said I can wear them for running and still return a used item if I don't like it.) After 5 miles I had a hard time not concentrating on the pain (and I have high pain tolerance.) Luckily, Altrec has an awesome return policy. I'm sending these back and trying another pair.

Great running shoes...

What I like best about these shoes is how weightless they are. They have excellent traction and cushioning. I have always preferred Nike shoes and these have the quality that Nike always delivers.
