Works well at first
August 27, 2010
This product works well when first applied. The problem with cotton clothing; however, is that you need to wash it. After a couple of washings, this product no longer remains waterproof. You can re-apply it, but it is seems like more trouble than it is worth to re-apply every couple of weeks.
Great for H2O proofing your stuff

Last fall I used this stuff on a pair of jeans I wore to the beach. I waded into the surf fully expecting to get wet (just to test their water repellence), but when I walked out, the jeans were bone dry. BONE DRY... even the seams! I am not kidding! A buddy of mine had me do it again because he didn't think I really did it. So, after going knee deep into the surf, I came out dry again! This stuff is freaky good when it comes to waterproofing cotton. I'm not sure how long it lasts, but when first applied and used, it REALLY works!
Already own the Nikwax Cotton Proof Fabric Care 300ml (10 fl oz)? Tell us your thoughts.
Worked Great

I followed the instructions on using Cotton Proof Fabric Care on 2 new pairs of hiking pants which were not water proofed. After air drying I tested and they repelled water. I have some old jackets which were water proof but are no longer repelling water so I am now going to treat them.
Pros: Ease of useWorks but not perfect

Tried this on a couple of cotton t-shirts. They did become somewhat water repellent, but not waterproof, and the repellency only lasted one wash.
Works great, but washes out

This product really works! I took 2 cotton t-shirts and washed them in the washing machine with this product. After drying them, I tested them in the sink. The water actually beaded up on them. Impressive! My only complaint is that after 2 more washes, they were no longer waterproof and I had to re-apply the product.
Waterproofing a tablecloth
February 26, 2010
We have an old beautiful white tablecloth that got stained. With a lot of work we got the stains out and then wanted to be able to use the tablecloth without having is stain so easily. So I treated the tablecloth with TechWash to be sure it was ready to receive the Cotton Proof. The test went well with the hand wash test, except I forgot to use gloves and it was tough on my hands, so the next day I treated the tablecloth in the washing machine, first with the Techwash followed by dumping in the saved water from the Cotton Proof step of the test tablecloth plus an extra amount(I used 150 ml for the test so what was left in the tub - about 1.5 gal- was put into the Tumble Washer with another 150 ml for two antique tablecloths). There were no discolorations on the tablecloths and they ironed well. Water beads up on the cloth, so that is good. What I don't know yet is how well they will hold up at the next dinner party with the inevitable spills of wine and food, but it has to be better than nothing where they will surly receive a difficult stain.
