Tent & Gear Proof Spray-On is a safe, non-aerosol reproofing spray suitable for non-breathable rainwear, tents, backpacks, duffel bags, gaiters and panniers. It adds a water-repellent coating to polyurethane and neoprene-backed nylon, polyester and dacron fabrics.

I thoroughly applied this to my backpack and 2 days later it shed the rain without exception. All my packs in the future will be coated with this.

Works great, but ignore what they say on the package: 10oz is enough for 25 sqm (13m twinskin kite); apply, roll up like a carpet & let product soak in for up to 1 hour, then hang out to drip off & dry.

I purchased a North Face Slingshot day backpack from Altrec.com a month or so ago. In the first heavy rainstorm, quite frankly, it leaked to the tune of about 1/16th inch of water in the main compartment and moisture in the smaller compartment. With a coating of Nikwax Tent and Gear Proof the leaking problem was solved. I now have a dry backpack.

Coated my cheap-o travel bags with Nikwax and then I was ready to go.
Water beaded off in a slight rain, everything inside was dry. Product gave my bags
an added excellent feature.

My North Face Tadpole tent got its first waterproofing after nearly 15 years of use (I treat my gear carefully though). Haven't been in a serious rainstorm yet, but feel confident
I'll stay dry as the fabric now beads easily when wet. It was easy to apply, matched the products advertised coverage, and
time will tell if I get the same results as when the tent was new. REI recommended it over several other products as not
harmful to the nylon fabric.

This stuff is good for waterproofing your gear, and, as it turns out, it works well on cloth/PUL diaper covers!
It is more environmentally friendly than the others out there, from what I've been told, so that's a plus.

this is awesome for the first couple of minths, but then i had to respray all of my foul weather gear. but it makes the water bead off again...my stuff was like new!!

I have used Nikwax boot supplies in the past and really liked the results, as with this, well, I'm not that impressed. First off, the instructions on the bottle say lay your clean, wet item out flat. OK, first off, do they mean soaking wet, or lightly misted wet? I was proofing a rainfly! Do you see the problem here? Anyhow, it made a huge mess, I had no idea if the solution was the correct mixture or not, and it was difficult to tell what was treated vrs. what was just wet. Having a fly that wasn't that bad off to begin with, (just trying to improve it before winter camping) it didn't seem to want to soak into the fabric that well, I believe most of the product evaporated. Also, I was hoping to do my groundcloth also, but the 10oz was barely enough to do the rainfly. If I wanted to do the entire tent/fly and groundcloth, I would need at least 40oz. Perhaps this product works better on REALLY old products, but as for my tent, no way. It has helped a bit, but not to Nikwax (or my) standards.
Anonymous - 1999-02-15OK performance - but not up to Nikwax standards
This worked ok on my North Face tent - but not nearly as good as I expected. Maybe I applied it incorrectly, but application was messy and time consuming and resulted in only moderate improvement in water repellency. I have had great success with other NIKWAX products and so expected the same here.
Daron - 2004-11-01Poor results
My Coleman Vale tent ground sheet was letting water through.
Firstly I used some spare Nickwax breathable waterproofer on my tent ground sheet which didnt help. Thinking I hadn't applied enough I brought another bottle but this time the tent proof non breathable nickwax.
The nozzle sprayed the fluid poorly; very inconsistant and not finely enough. I applied the whole bottle 3 times over from both sides of the material, having to wipe the runs in all the time - AND IT STILL LEAKS!?
(It has reduced the leakage),Not impressed.
