Description

While the Oakley Flak Jacket might resemble the popular Half Jacket designs, there's more to the innovations than a redesigned frame. The Flak Jacket represents a new generation of Oakley sport eyewear performance. The interchangeable lenses have a permanent hydrophobic lens that repels skin oil, rain and sweat to optimize optical performance. The lenses also resist smudges and clean easier than previous eyewear, making the design better suited to endurance sports and extended climbing and backpacking. While some people found the Flak Jacket lenses easier to change than the Half Jackets, it's all really a matter of getting used to changing lenses. Like learning anything new, changing the lenses the first time around takes an extra moment or two. After that you can swap out lenses in a few moments and quickly adapt to new light conditions. Like the Oakley Half Jackets, the Flak Jacket has a featherweight O Matter® frame with Unobtainium earsocks, and the proven three-point fit. Unobtainium tends to grip more when wet, so you don't have to worry about your Flak Jackets giving you the slip before you reach the finish line.

Specifications

  • Distinctly contoured and lightweight O Matter® frame
  • New interchangeable Plutonite® lenses exceed ANSI Z87.1 standards for optical performance and have a special hydrophobic finish that resists moisture and skin oils
  • Sized to fit medium to large faces
  • All Oakley lenses block 100% of UVA, UVB and UVC rays (plus blue light)
  • Unobtainium® grips at nose and ear stems increase grip when damp
  • Patented XYZ Optics® design
  • Note: The last time we checked Oakley's polarized lenses had a wider width than other non-polarized lenses, so don't interchange these two lens types on the same frame
  • Specially woven, electro-static storage bag included

Flak Jacket Sunglasses 4.8 5 23 23
Flak Jacket Sunglasses Those sunglasses are good. I had 2 pairs of different Oakleys sunglassed before this pair and you can't compare them. This one has by far more superior performance and coolness factor. I used one on my GR5 trip and lost a pair. So I returned to states and bite it with another pair. Please make sure you go with polarized option for lenses. January 9, 2012
These shades are the best! I like to use my glasses when I am doing sports. They fit very well on the head, and they are very light. I have used them while cross country skiing, running, cycling and down hill skiing. I absolutely love them. Now I can't even remember how I managed before i got them. December 14, 2011
Excellent Excellent. Comfortable. Looks great. Great protection from glare and excellent visibility as one would expect from Oakley. Exchangeable lenses is a big plus. My teenage son keeps taking them and at some point i'll possibly get him a pair. November 21, 2011
GREAT SUNGASSES After using the same sunglasses (Oakley Wires) for the past 10 or so years I thought it was time to update. I have a prescription, and contacts were out, so I was on the lookout for some prescription sunglasses that I could wear for riding and running as well as for general day-to-day use. Being very particular about my sight (or lack thereof), I was fastidious about my choice and checked out nearly every available option. In the end, I chose the all black Flak Jacket XLJ with a grey lens. I've had these since Christmas 07 and I couldn't be happier. The fit and comfort is great and along with the light weight I don't feel them at all whilst riding or running. Visual clarity is great and there is no distortion at any point on the lens, a real bonus for a prescription lens. There is a lot of choice when it comes to lens colour and ultimately I would have loved a Transition lens in persimmon but unfortunately they don't make those for prescription (would have been absolutely perfect for MTBing) so settled on the grey lens instead. I'm still very happy with the finished product. My only issues is that they do have a tendency to fog up, especially in wet/cold conditions and that replacement lenses cost a bomb . I guess that's what you get for needing prescription lenses! Overall they are pretty pricey, especially if you need a prescription lens, however I would thoroughly recommend them as the strengths far outweigh the weaknesses. October 10, 2011
see the definition Can't say enough about Oakley quality. I use these sunglasses for early morning runs or a sunny afternoon ski. They are light weight, don't fog even in the cold weather. With the interchangeable lens option they can fit your most specific outdoor needs. I liked them so much I ordered a pair of prescription lens so I can wear them when I'm not wearing my contacts. Sweet Looking I love the looks and feel of these sun glasses. Very comfortable on my face and ears. Very lite weight and easy to wear. I don't get irritated with these on my face after long time periods. Bummer they discontinued this color combination. I recently dropped glasses on concrete and now have a very small chip on the outside of the lens and it's driving me nuts. I'm currently shopping for the right color replacement lens. Can't go wrong! black chrome iridium polarized although the product picture on the website did not match the product received, my boyfriend loved it. The black chrome looks a little brown, but in certain angles looks black. He gets compliments on the sunglasses. He used to have the oakley half jacket and likes the flak jacket much better. He also likes the iridium polarized lenses which he said he can wear them even during sunset while his old black polarized lens was too dark. Although the product may seem that is made from cheap quaily, he used his half jacket daily through every weather condition and activity and the product lasted. The product also arrived on the expected date. Great product! November 23, 2010
Oakley Flak Jacket 2nd time purchasing Oakley sunglasses from altrec. Love them. Great value, great service, fast shipping! Couldn't be happier! November 16, 2010
Excellent sport sunglasses These sunglasses are very good for an active lifestyle. They are very lightweight and also grip the side of your head so they won't fall off when making sudden movements or when looking down. Still, they don't grip as tightly as some of Oakleys models with heavier frames do, which is great when you have a big head like I do. May 31, 2010
Poor lens tint for my use - item purchased not the same as photo BEWARE: The so-called Black Chrome w/ Tungsten Iridium Polarized Lens & the corresponding picture does not correspond, they are different Flak Jackets color/lens tint. The picture shows a Silver w/ Ice Iridium Polarized Lens instead. There's an apparent screw up on the description mismatching the picture. So cross check the items with Oakley.com to be sure. I gave it 3 stars because it ain't suitable for my use, not to fault the product. It such a waste of time & effort, especially when I'm out of the country. May 14, 2010
You pay for the lens My biggest problem w/cheap sunglasses was that they gave me headaches due to optical distortion (same effect of wearing prescriptions lenses, just not as pronounced). No such problem w/the Oakley Flak Jackets. The lens provides perfect clarity and no more headaches. The fit wasn't the best in the world but something I'll gladly overlook given the high quality of the lenses. January 29, 2010
These are great casual sunglasses I have the Livestrong version and I love them. I switch the lenses with the clear ones when I bike in the dark in the morning. Then I use the regular lens when I bike home in the early evening. They are also great looking sunglasses for the weekend. I like them better than the half jackets. January 7, 2010
a pair of very decent sunglasses The design of the carbon fiber frame just wasn't my taste but that's just aesthetics. Besides that the, lenses was up to par as other Oakleys I have bought. I would also suggest getting the regular flak jacket as oppose to the xlj if your nose is narrower. January 3, 2010
Very good experience These are without a doubt, the best sunglasses I've ever owned. I was hesitant to spend this much on sunglasses, but am glad I did. I don't have to worry about them falling off, as they "grip" very well without hurting. They were shipped quickly & all in all, I was very happy with the experience with Altrec. November 24, 2009
Great sunglasses for active people I am an active runner, golfer, and cyclist. I have used Oakley products for years and continue to find them among the best. The flak jacket is a great system. The lenses are clear and lightweight. The frame is great and stays in place even when you get sweaty. I also plan on buying different lenses to swap out for different light conditions. September 30, 2009
Great fit, great optics I am an avid mountain biker and I have tried several different sunglasses. I have had a problem with depth perception at high speed with other glasses, but these performed great. This is my first Oakley experience and I am sold! May 26, 2009
Lightweight, sporty, functional, stylish I have the polished rootbeer with polarized lens. They look great and feel great! They light and sporty - great for the long bike rides. I wear them all the time because they are fashionable sunglasses as well. Have gotten great comments on them! Altrec is the best website to buy your Oakleys! They have great customer service and also ship very promptly. All around a fantastic product from an awesome company!! March 12, 2009
great stylish sunglasses! I have the Livestrong Flak sunglasses which I use for commuting by bike. I like them because they are comfortable and fit better than the half jackets. I also have a clear pair of lenses so I can ride both in the morning and then swap them out for the grey lenses in the afternoon. September 29, 2008
Oakley flak jacket Bought a metallic red flak jacket. Fits well and delivered on time too. Made my online purchase hassle free. July 14, 2008
On the fence? Greatest pair of shades I've ever owned, hands down. I was a little skeptical of buying them "online" but I'm glad I did. They are about cheaper here than buying them in the store, and these particular shades come with a case that is $40 in the store. They weigh about as much as in ink pen, sit farther off your eyes (if your like me and have long eyelashes this is great), and the lens is much easier to change on this pair as opposed to the straight jacket. If your thinking if it's worth it, IT IS. July 2, 2008
Great clarity My biggest problem with sunglasses is my eye lashes rubbing the inside of the lens. These fit perfect and I have had no issues with this problem. June 28, 2008
Awesom Sunglasses I'm a big fan of these. I especially like the anti-static invisible coating they have been treated with. Sometimes with smith sunglasses and other polarized lens, I've noticed that they attract a high degree of dust, and that dust really stands out when you're wearing them. With the oakley flaks, it actaully repells the dust so the lens' are always spec free. This is a huge plus for anyone who is a type A personallity and/or comletely anal when it comes to sunglass lens clarity. June 19, 2008
Metallic red, fire polarized. Just fabulous glasses. Comfortable and super clarity and contrast. Great looking too, and I own a lot of sunglasses. February 9, 2008
