Osprey Packs Focus Daypack

Transform your working lunch into a workout lunch with Osprey's Focus backpack. With over 1,800 cubic inches of carrying capacity for work and school plus a padded laptop sleeve that doubles as a hydration pouch, the Osprey Focus blurs the line between work and play. The diecut harness features guides that organize hose and headphone wires (you'll find a zippered compartment for your CD or MP3 player on top of the backpanel). There's a roomy pocket on one side for your 32-oz. water bottle and another smaller quick-access compartment for your cellular phone. Like all Osprey backpacks, the Focus backpack emphasizes ergonomic comfort through a molded ventilation backpanel backed by a rigid framesheet.

  • Highly durable and water-resistant 500-denier and 1,000-denier plain-weave nylon fabric
  • Ventilated molded backpanel with rigid framesheet, removable 1.5-in. webbing hipbelt

Suh-weet...
Switched from: North Face Slingshot It's great finally having a backpack that's designed to lug a laptop but doesn't look like a traditional laptop bag. I carry a laptop to class most weekdays and the Focus' design makes it a breeze. The bag has number of thoughtful features I didn't expect: a cool padded/velcro-sealable side pocket for a cell phone, contoured shoulder straps, and pockets galore. If you're going to use this for school (i.e. laptop + books + random crap), I'd recommend the M/L size--I returned the S/M bag because it couldn't fit all my stuff. The only gripe I have is that main compartment tends to "inflate" with air if it isn't filled completely. Weird, I know, but it happens.

Very Comfortable
This backpack is extremely comfortable. Even when I have a lot of stuff, it doesn't feel too heavy or uncomfortable like other backpacks.

comforatble & great fit
i love it...very comfortable, lots of pockets, good design. color is "earthier" than pictured—the yellow is more like a brown mustard

Great Bag
Great Bag! You can fill it up with heavy stuff and it feels light as a feather on your back. I can fit text books, work books, my laptop, and personal items in this bag. Great for a day commute.

Carries laptop well but not for cycling
This was definitely the best backpack I have tried for carrying a laptop plus a frightening amount of stuff along with it. Well thought out design and overbuilt. Loved it for walking around and upright riding but it just wasn't comfortable riding with it on my road bikes. Went with a messenger style bag (Chrome Metropolis) instead. I would have kept this for traveling but I don't travel that much.

Provides a number of sections that were well thought out
Decent amount of room and enough sections, pockets, etc to handle all the varied "stuff" we all carry nowadays.

Great backpack
This is a great bag. It's roomy, but isn't bulky. Its very well made: strong, durrable, looks great. Just sweet. It's so comfortable to wear. I use it for school carrying books etc. Only problem, it doesn't fit my 15" widescreen HP laptop. It was supposedly supposed to, and technically, I guess it does go in the pocket. However, it's so tight that it takes several minutes to get it in and out. It's just not reasonable to use. I like the bag so much I'm just going to keep it anyway. But this is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. I'll probably just get a padded sleeve that will fit my laptop so I can still stick it in this bag.

color stinks
The backpack is great, but the red color is muted and is more rust than red. Not at all what I expected. Good storage for work-related items, cell phone pocket is handy. The pocket on top is just a flap inside so when I put my wallet there, it makes it hard to access my computer.

Sizing Chart

Back MeasurementStep 1 - Pack Sizing

All Osprey packs, save the transit bags, are available in multiple sizes to fit a range of torso lengths. To find your torso length, have a friend measure your back along the spine from the level of your iliac crest (the top of your hipbones) to your C7 (the knobby bone at the base of your neck).

Step 2 - Hipbelt Sizing

To determine your hipbelt size measure around your hips, not your waist. A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug; after all it will be carrying the bulk of the pack's weight. The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the pads when securely tightened.

ErgoPullErgoPull

Nearly all Osprey hipbelts use an exclusive ErgoPull design. It creates mechanical advantage to provide extra leverage in cinching down the hipbelt. The ErgoPull design also draws tension along the top and bottom of the belt, not through the center, so it distributes pressure more evenly over the padding and relieves direct pressure on the hipbones.

HarnessStep 3 - Harness

Osprey Crescent & Luna, Aether & Ariel and Waypoint packs offer interchangeable shoulder harnesses. Harness sizing usually corresponds to pack size, but your best bet is to try one on. A properly fit harness should terminate 2 to 3" beneath the armpit. Webbing should not touch the body. By breaking the hook and loop connection and sliding the harness up and down the backpanel the torso length can be adjusted up to 3". (see illustration).

Women's WXS WSM WM WL

Step 4 - Overall Fit

Once you have the correct size pack, harness and hipbelt, and the torso length set properly, it's time to put some weight in the pack (20 to 30 pounds of well distributed weight will do) and dial in the fit. First, snug down the hipbelt and harness. Connect the sternum strap (A) - position it about 2 inches below your collarbones and snug it down lightly. Finally, tighten the load lifter straps to draw the load solidly against your back. The lift straps (B) should come off your shoulders at a 45 to 60 degree angle in Osprey's ReCurve and Ethereal Suspension packs. In other models these straps serve more as compression straps and ride flatter; they may even angle downwards.

In a good fit, there should be no pressure points and no gaps between your body and the pack. With Osprey's ReCurve packs, final tweaking may involve custom fitting the aluminum stays to your back.

Offered in colors: Black, Crimson and Oasis. Available sizes, while supplies last, include size s/m and size m/l: s/m, m/l.
