A technical daypack for light and fast backcountry adventure, the Osprey Stratos daypack is perfect for day hiking, an afternoon at the crags, even bike commuting. The sophisticated AirCore suspension system allows for full air circulation without sacrificing a stable, form-fitting carry. Briefly, the AirCore backpanel consists of two fiberglass struts with a center stabilization disc anchored into top and bottom ABS wings. Over the top of this lightweight hardware a tensioned mesh backpanel provides the breathable pack to body contact. The Osprey Stratos backpack offers numerous organization pockets, including handy hipbelt pockets for small necessities, side stretch woven pockets designed for quick access to water bottles, and a large zippered front pocket in addition to the front panel access to the main compartment. Dubbed the StraightJacket compression system, the Osprey Stratos backpack features arching flaps on either side of the front pocket, connected via the two compression straps to wrap the load securely so it doesn't shift. For smaller packs with the AirCore suspension, be sure to check out the Osprey Stratos 18 and Osprey Stratos 12.
Great fit and excellent quality
This pack is an excellent fit. I have small shoulders and I ordered the small pack and it fit perfectly. The quality is excellent. Cant wait to use it on my upcoming hiking trips!
Awsome Pack
Very well made, carry's load very well.
Osprey makes the best packs !
Sweet pack
I like it as much as everyone else. I was a little uncertain at first but after using it a few times on hikes it has become my favorite. Really does manage heavy loads well.

Great style and excellent quality!
We really like the mesh to keep our backs dry. We do all sorts of summer hikes as well as cross country skiing trips in the winter. The style and quality are great!
Durable, well designed pack
I like to use equipment many times before making commnents. Having used it for XC skiing, hiking and climbing, I feel comfortable recommending this backpack. It carries weight very well, keeps the contents from moving around and has some nice features. There is plenty of room for food, water, fleece or shell, and accessories for a day hike.
Having a frame is very beneficial in carrying the load, but it also makes it difficult to put in a backpack. Also, the stretch pocket on the face of the pack does not leave much room for contents, especially with an ice axe or compression staps closed.
We love it!
It is comfortable and cool. Lots of great pockets and places to stash extra items.
It would be nice if it was waterproof because we hike in a rainforest a lot.
Extremely comfortable
This backpack is so comfortable, the weight in it is drastically cut. The design helps with the comfort and weight distribution/reduction.
Excellent pack for light/day hikes!
I've had this for about 6 weeks now, and have used it for some light hiking trips. The mesh back design keeps your back from getting sweaty, but does force you to pack things in more of a vertical configuration. The side pockets hold a water bottle on each side nicely, and the waist pockets come-in very handy for small things like snacks or keys. Even fully loaded, the weight distribution is very good, and feels like half the weight on your back! Very happy with this bag!!
excellent
great pack for mototorcycling and bicycling. also great for hiking with a great airflow over your back to keep cool
excellent day pack
i was looking for a day pack for cycling that had a support structure for stability. this is the perfect back pack because there is an excellent airflow over your back.
Nice Pack
Very well made pack!
You can't go wrong with Osprey!!
Wonderful pack. Osprey is the best pack out there!! Buy it and you will love it!
Wonderful pack
If you are looking for a great pack, buy an Osprey pack. The quality and features are outstanding. I love this pack.
Great Day/Overnight Pack
Great pack that's the perfect size for long day hikes and even an overnighter if you pack light. I've hiked with as much as 18 pounds in complete comfort. I went with the large for my 5'11", 200+ lb. frame. I have a 45-inch chest with a fairly short torso. The medium was a better fit to my back, but the shoulder straps pinched, thus I went up to a large, and this is what I'd recommend if you're big and/or muscular up top. The pack is very comfortable and expands to accommodate much more than at first appearance. The curved back makes for a somewhat strange compartment shape (so it won't take large, flat items like laptops very well) but having all that ventilation is TOTALLY worth it. I like that fact that you can stash dual hydration packs for hot-weather hikes as well. The hip belt pockets are big enough for small tools, a cell phone or a very compact camera, and maybe an eTrex-sized GPS or a snack bar or two, but nothing bulky. The side pockets look shallow, but hold a 1-liter plastic bottle with no problems. I love the overall attention to detail in this pack, such as the looped zipper pulls and routing for a hydration hose on the shoulder strap. It's extremely well-made and feels like a substantial, quality piece of equipment. I love it.
Excellent day pack
I picked this up because I needed something lighter than my Aether 60 after knee surgery for day hikes. Very well built and fits me much better than the Stratos 35 pack, which ran a little small in the strap adjustment area. Highly recommended!
Fits great. Using pack to commute on bicycle.
No more shoulder fatigue. Fits luch and clothes no problem. Full 100oz water bag when sorted inside main compartment takes up alot of space due to shape of pack. Not a problem. This pack is working perfect for me in my application. I need to cut down the excess straps, they fluttered in the wind after midnight coming home on a dark forest road, I thought for a sec I was being chased!!!
Great mutli-use pack
Very comfortable, great all round pack. I ride with it, brought as my carry-on on a weekend trip to Mexico and even use it to carry my softball gear. The attention to detail is bar-none.
My only complaint is that is a little cumbersome for its size but thats a minor complaint.
A great pack for day hikes
I wanted a pack with hydration option (not included)for my water bladder, side pockets for easy access to my digital camera, plenty of packing room for layers and lunch, a place to hook on the GPS, and a place to park my trekking poles. Yes, I am a total gear head and a slave to consumerism. After looking in several stores and online, I settled on the Osprey after seeing this brand for the first time while in Moab. The mesh panels and light weight intrigued me and it looked like a really well made pack. It is that and much more. Based on the size charts, I originally bought the Large pack, but after a few hikes and it still not settling in just right, I went with the Medium and have been happy with my choice. It's exactly what I was looking for and now that the size issue is resolved, I couldn't be happier. I had found it cheaper elsewhere and Altrec did the price match plus which made it a great deal as well. I hope this review helps if you're looking for the same kind of pack.
Great pack, with some deficits
The pack is ultralight, very roomy, and the most comfortable pack I've ever owned.
However, the inside is of a weird curved shape, and the hydration pack pocket is too small for a 100oz Camelbak.
Excellent Pack, But Limited Space
The pack is very nice, well built, and very comfortable, but its capacity will limit the amount of stuff you can put in it. For teh amount of cubic inch space that it has, it is a bit large.
Ron - 2006 - 8 - 11
I used the Statos 24 on a technical climb up Little Bear peak in Colorado. It was comfortable and low profile and durable. I liked being able to place the hydration bag between the pack and the suspension backing. It is alittle small for carrying a full compliment of ropes and other technical gear. It was rainy during the climb, and I was surprised to find some of my gear inside the pack alittle damp after the climb. Over all a good pack for a day climb or pack.
Good pack with some adjustments
I took this pack on a day hike. It held up well but the curved aircore backpanel does take some getting use to. You must be able to pack items in a certain way for it to work. Overall an excellent pack. Another reason why I prefer Osprey packs.
Step 1 - Pack Sizing
All Osprey packs, save the transit bags, are available in multiple sizes to fit a range of torso lengths. To find your torso length, have a friend measure your back along the spine from the level of your iliac crest (the top of your hipbones) to your C7 (the knobby bone at the base of your neck).
Step 2 - Hipbelt Sizing
To determine your hipbelt size measure around your hips, not your waist. A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug; after all it will be carrying the bulk of the pack's weight. The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the pads when securely tightened.

ErgoPull
Nearly all Osprey hipbelts use an exclusive ErgoPull design. It creates mechanical advantage to provide extra leverage in cinching down the hipbelt. The ErgoPull design also draws tension along the top and bottom of the belt, not through the center, so it distributes pressure more evenly over the padding and relieves direct pressure on the hipbones.
Step 3 - Harness
Osprey Crescent & Luna, Aether & Ariel and Waypoint packs offer interchangeable shoulder harnesses. Harness sizing usually corresponds to pack size, but your best bet is to try one on. A properly fit harness should terminate 2 to 3" beneath the armpit. Webbing should not touch the body. By breaking the hook and loop connection and sliding the harness up and down the backpanel the torso length can be adjusted up to 3". (see illustration).
| Men's | SM | MD | Large | XLarge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Women's | WXS | WSM | WM | WL |
Step 4 - Overall Fit
Once you have the correct size pack, harness and hipbelt, and the torso length set properly, it's time to put some weight in the pack (20 to 30 pounds of well distributed weight will do) and dial in the fit. First, snug down the hipbelt and harness. Connect the sternum strap (A) - position it about 2 inches below your collarbones and snug it down lightly. Finally, tighten the load lifter straps to draw the load solidly against your back. The lift straps (B) should come off your shoulders at a 45 to 60 degree angle in Osprey's ReCurve and Ethereal Suspension packs. In other models these straps serve more as compression straps and ride flatter; they may even angle downwards.
In a good fit, there should be no pressure points and no gaps between your body and the pack. With Osprey's ReCurve packs, final tweaking may involve custom fitting the aluminum stays to your back.
