Solid backpack
May 24, 2011

I purchased this backpack 6 months ago and have used it on various trips, day hikes, and cycling. So far I have been quite happy with its performance. The pack is well suited for a range of activities. Its great for going to the store to pick up a six-pack and some groceries. The shape holds more groceries than you'd think and it comfortably holds 15+ lbs while riding for short stretches/errands (ca. 5 mi). The slits on the back fit a blinking red light for added visibility in traffic. And there is a piece that will easily attach your helmet for when you aren't riding. The number of pockets are good for organizing various items when traveling. I found that I can pack everything I need for a weekend trip in the bag and therefore can avoid caring extra baggage on planes. The hydration bladder sleeve is great if you want to use it for a day pack or cycle touring. You can easily carry a couple liters of water, extra cloths, and some food for a quick jaunt up a mountain or a day-long ride.

Light Daypack, Perfect for an Adventure
December 20, 2011

The pack is lightweight, fits comfortably on my frame (avg length torso) and is capable of holding a surprising amount. I've used it as a daypack while traveling through the Andes, and have been pleased that it can hold the liters of water I need (including in a camelback I added), snacks, a few layers of clothing, and a large camera, among other small accessories. My friend hiking with me plans to order one after seeing how much I enjoyed it.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Cons: Cost

Great Pack!
October 26, 2009

This is fantastic pack, light weight, excellent. I traveled in Europe with my Talon 22 which is useful and comfortable to me. And Altrec is a great online shop with large selection of packs and traveling gear. Good!

It Gets the Job Done
March 07, 2011

The pack is small enough to function for a day pack, but large enough to hold all the necessities for a few days if you pack wisely. The pack fabric is extremely strong and easy to clean. I got the pack really muddy and it came off with just a wet rag. The slash pocket is a nice quick place to store stuff. It's a strong pack, best used for mountain biking.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Great day pack
March 19, 2007

The ventilation and adjustable fit are top-notch on this pack. Talon 22 is lightweight but not flimsy. I think I'll get years of use out of this day pack. Just the right size for a 3-liter hydration pouch, some emergency gear, rain jacket and snacks - about all you need on a day hike.

Great backpack
August 20, 2011

It is light weight and it holds a 3 liter bladder of water. There is enough room for clothes, rain gear plus a whole lot more. It is so comfortable and adjustable. It's amazing how much it holds for being so light weight. You can just keep putting more and more in it. I am considering hiking the Grand Canyon next year & this backpack will be perfect for that. Great backpack, would recommend it to all of my friends.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Great pack for hiking and snowshoeing
January 08, 2013

The Talon 22 backpack is the perfect size for hiking and snowshoeing. It is difficult to find a daypack that also has a good waist belt to keep some of the weight off my shoulders. I have retired all my other daypacks and only use the Talon 22.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

100% comfort
December 27, 2010

Pretty much the perfect pack for day hiking, snow shoeing, skiing, etc. Not especially big, it has just enough space for the essentials - hydration bladder, lunch, jacket. Zip pockets on the hip belt keep keys, cell phone or other tools at hand. The best part is the way it hugs the back and distributes weight. The hip belt keeps it snug and in place when you're in motion. Only drawback - it rides a little high, which makes it less comfortable for biking, unless you have a very upright riding position.

Talon 22 backpack
August 12, 2012

Used my pack for the first time today. I hiked Mount Snow. I had the pack filled because we are training for a hike up Mt. Washington. The pack was everything I was hoping for. It fit perfectly, the straps were extremely comfortable, and it held more then I thought it would. There are many places to put smaller objects, too. I absolutely love it and I don't usually like back packs. I would highly recommend it. The only draw back was no clip on the straps for my camel back tube.

Pros: Performance

Very comfortable and lightweight
December 25, 2009

This is probably one of the most comfortable packs I have used. The torso length is adjustable (very much needed). The mesh shoulder straps help vent. The hip pockets are quite large. I like that the excess straps don't dangle around, except for the chest one. It's definitely a keeper.

very good pack
October 07, 2009

I'm a 5'6" 115# female with a long torso so packs don't always fit well. The Talon 22 was very comfortable and adjusted to fit me and so light weight. On a day hike it can adjust it's capacity for a major mushroom find. I think it is a well thought out pack for day or short over night trips.

Great lite weight pack
June 17, 2011

I was looking for a pack that would serve multiple needs such as hiking, day pack and all around pack. This pack is perfect. It has a mesh panel in the back which is perfect for hot weather climates and it is VERY lite weight. The quality of Osprey is unsurpassed and the color selection is wonderful. I would recommend this pack to anyone who is looking for a good all around pack. If you are looking for a pack to carry your laptop then is probably isn't the best solution but for all other needs this pack is great.

Awesome pack
November 30, 2010

I ordered two of these, one for myself and one for my sister. The pockets on the hip belt and harness are a real bonus. The pack holds plenty for a dayhike or quick overnight trip. I also own a Osprey Aura 50 and love the quality and features of the Osprey packs. Great packs and Altrec ships super quick.

Comforatable Daypack
October 04, 2010

I have been looking for a pack to use when day hiking as well as when cross country skiing. While I have not used it in the snow yet. I have taken it on a couple summer trip already and it have performed flawlessly. This is a very comfortable pack. Much more than a couple other packs I have owned. I am a big Osprey fan so I thought I would give this one a try. Used it once with a hydration reservoir and once without. Only drawback I found is I like the magnetic tube clip found on the Manta and Raptor packs they make. This is only a preference thing though. Fit plenty of gear for a summit climb: including reservoir, warm layer, lunch and extra water bottle. Had lots of room to spare. Would highly recommend this pack, breathes fairly well in the back and the straps. Even has handy pockets on the hip belt.

Great pack - deceptively functional for the weight
October 18, 2010

This is a surprisingly useful pack - I expected it to be my "ultralighter" only, but it quickly became my go-to bag for everything from dayhikes to light, warm-weather overnights to chasing my kids around theme parks. It IS very light, but the material is impressively durable, and its stretchy nature means I can fit in a lot more than it would seem. Only complaint of any substance is the lid/zipper pocket at the top - because it's the only "secure" pocket, it tends to be the best place to put heavier electronics or important items like keys, camera, cell phone, etc. But then the weight and size of these items makes that top pocket overly top-heavy and it tends to interfere with the top zipper and access to the main pack compartment. This is a minor quibble, but could stand a bit of redesign. Otherwise, I love the hipbelt pockets, the strap pockets, and the breathable mesh back. It actually does work on hot days. Overall a great pack, and more versatile that you would think.

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: top pocket a bit awkward

nice day-pack
March 02, 2009

I cross-country ski to my car-pool pickup and drop-off location each day and this pack has been perfect for carrying my lunch and a few books. It is lightweight and has easy to open and close pockets. The water-bladder pocket works well.

Just what I expected.
January 04, 2009

I work at REI and have sold hundreds of these packs. When I finally decided to buy one, we were sold out! And no wonder. This pack is perfect for my every day commute. The zippers are covered for my bus ride, my rain jacket fits nicely in the front open pouch. Inside the main compartment there is a place for my money stash and another pocket for my cell phone, etc. The main mistake people make is thinking this pack is made for laptops or large books. It is designed to be a daypack - meaning no more than 20 pounds and if you want it to work right, the weight should be distributed evenly. Lunch, shoes, keys, water bottle, camera, ipod, rain jacket, and whatever else you need - I couldn't have asked for a better pack.

The osprey backbacks are the best

Great day pack. The ventilation and the adjustable fit are top-notch on this pack. It's a great backpack. I have used other backpacks but this one it's the best.

Great pack, light and plenty of room
October 21, 2009

I love this pack. I bought it for day hikes, and have used it on a 30mile, fund-raising walk and as a carry-on for airlines as well. I like the adjustable harness and the bag is light but substantial. Hip belt is comfortable and the little zippered pouches are great for snacks and chapstick. pouches on the shoulder harness are handy and the main compartment is spacious and easy to access. Great day pack with cool features. Highly recommend!

search no further, this pack does it all!
December 21, 2008

MTB, running, hiking, or just everyday use this pack is your "do it all." My favorite features of this pack would have to be the two hip belt pockets and the two shoulder strap pockets. The side belt pockets are perfect for cell phones, gps, cameras, wallet etc...the two shoulder pockets are great for that quick energy bar snack on the go, or maybe even compass. No pack can be everything, but this one comes close!

Excellent, lightweight pack
June 30, 2009

Osprey once again does a fine shop of making a small, tough lightweight pack with all the amenities one can dream about. It fit in my large pack for a trip to Germany and uses very little packing space and very useful for day trips. It is a little light so it will take some time to see how it lasts through some beatings but I do have faith in Osprey. And Altrec is a great to site to shop - very fast, reliable and mostley at a great price.

comfort at last
August 05, 2011

Finally! A medium size day pack I can load up that has padded hip belts that comfortably take the weight off of my shoulders. Elegantly designed with the human body in mind and crafted with nice touches like generous hip belt zip pockets with room for more than a bandaid, and easy to adjust straps. (average durability rating only because it's too new to say)

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

The perfect pack
January 21, 2010

This pack is just what I wanted - great fit, good design and not so many pockets that I can't remember where I stashed things (but there's still plenty of storage for a day-hike), good places to store water bottles on the outside or in a hydration pouch inside, mesh back that allows air to circulate, pockets on the belt for easy access to a camera, chap stick, GPS - plus it's very lightweight!

lightweight with easy accessibility
January 19, 2008

Took the Talon 22 on a trip to the Big Island where we did long hikes and some climbing over rugged terrain. It performed very well and the torso adjustment feature ensured a comfortable, non-shifting fit. Loved the accessibility to camera and cell phone in the waist straps and the multiple compartments made everything easy to find.

Functional, comfortable
November 24, 2008

Sizing is great and design extremely practical. 3 liter hydration bladder fits with no problem. Have used for a day hike, and have been using it regularly for mountain biking, including carrying extra clothes and leg armor. highly recommend
