Hoping for better
January 17, 2012
I like the idea of having an insect repellent gaiter. My biggest disappointment regarding this item is the position of the strap that goes under one's boot. It is positioned too far back making it hard to position the strap correctly in front of the heel. As a result, the strap slips backwards towards the heel making it more likely that one will be walking on it and wearing it out pretty fast. I have to position the front lace hook very forward on the boot to keep try to keep the strap in place. I wear a women's size 8 boot.

Not bad

Work well in dry cond. Bugoff did repell ticks. Bottom band held up over 90 miles of AT trekking

Nice light weight gaitors
January 23, 2010
They fit well, are easy to get on and off, and the strap that goes under the shoe is beefy. It isn't replace-able, as far as I can tell, but at this price I'll buy another pair when these wear out.
Very Nice and super light weight!

Great fit, and I was amazed at how once they were on, so easy to get on and off after you had them adjusted. You never know you have them on they are so light weight. Can't wait for bug season to check them out, but I know they will work perfect for the scree and dust. Awesome lite weight gators. Even my girlfriend liked hers.
Very Nice..............

Good When Dry

Perform their job well when dry, seal up my low cut Montrails and keep the bugs and dirt out. My only complaint is when they are wet they collapse under their own weight, but do dry quickly.
Lacking durability.

I really enjoy using this gaiter. I fell in the lower end of the Large size and decided to take my chances on a Medium and the fit is perfect over my Salmon Comet 3D boots. I wear a size 10m. However on my first trip out I noticed that the stitching around the base of the gaiter that keeps the elastic band tucked away began to fail. This could be due to the fact that I was bushwacking down a creek bed that had some thorny vines and the packaging describes these as "Trail" gaiters, but it was just a mile or so of creekbed bushwacking, and I figured the gaiter could keep up. Altrec's amazing return policy allows me to return them if needed, and OR's warranty allows me to send them in for repair if needed. I guess I just need to be a little more mindful of them in the future. I hate outdoor gear that requires me to treat it as though it were indoor gear...
Pros: Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: Wears quicklygreat for work or recreation in tick and chigger infested areas

I bought these gaiters for fieldwork in areas known for abundant ticks and chiggers, and they've made me happy. The gaiters are lightweight, appear to be constructed of durable materials, and fit well over 8" high workboots. After a couple trials, I'm convinced they reduce the amount of nasties getting through to ankles and other less pleasant body parts.
