Great Gaiters
December 03, 2010
I bought these for my husband. He loves them! They are very durable too. These keep his feet dry during the bad weather. Plus, I got them on sale too.
Pros: Performance, Great valueGood gaiters

I think I'm going to be generally pleased with these gaiters. The friendly service rep who helped me via "Live Chat" thought that they were going to be the old style pictured rather than the new style. When the new style arrived, I was initially disappointed (had hoped for the skinnier, grommeted underfoot strap) but I think that they will work out well.

great gaiter for its intended use!

This is a nice, very lightweight gaiter for spring/summer/fall hikes. It breathes well first of all. I like that the material is very stretchy - that makes it fit snugly on trail runners to my large hiking boots. The material is tough, but these aren't made for total abuse. Backcountry travel in heavy brush will probably rip these up a lot quicker than some 500D cordura for instance.. but if you don't find yourself spending hours off trail in heavy heavy cover, these are fantastic your general hiking, trail running, light snow, just as it is advertised.

I bought these gaiters for spring hiking, liking the medium height. but when I tried them on with my boots they barely covered the top of them. Might be okay with tennis shoes or low trail shoes, but with regulare hiking boots they just didn't work. I am going to pick up a knee high pair.
Cons: Bad designsize runs small
January 12, 2013
I ordered the S/M for my boot size 8 1/2, which should work...problem is that the top opening, i.e., around the calf is way too small. Even wearing running tights, there was no way to comfortably close the top. I do NOT have large calves! Otherwise, the construction looks sound, they are light-weight, and should work just fine. They are short, so they would not work with deeper snow...just good for trails. They will have to go back for exchange with the larger size...I do find it annoying that the larger size costs ~$10+ more...makes me wonder if this sizing issue was a known flaw.
Cons: sizingworks great in keeping wood shavings out of my shoes.

I don't go trekking but I do make wooded bowls on my wood lathe. The shavings were always filling my shoes up no matter what type I wore. This problem is a thing of the past since I received the flex-tex gaiters. No shavings in my shoes anymore.
the very best gaiter for desert wear

I wear my Flex-Tex gaiters everyday; they are cool and breatheable, in addition to fitting excellently over a variety of styles of shoes. I never have trouble with any trail debris getting into my shoes, even in the most rocky and brushy conditions. I would recommend the Flex-Tx gaiter to hikers and runners alike.
Bring Back the original

The new style fails in comparison to the original Flex Gaiter. I miss the fully adjustable, replaceable cord that tied on each side. It was so easy to adjust and it included snaps on the bottom instead of the useless Velcro. The red sewed in strap is non-replaceable and cumbersome. The buckle gets clogged with mud and snow. With that said it is still a good product for three seasons of hiking.

good design, bad sizing

These gaiters are very well built. They go on & off easy, once I figured out that the best way to do it is to leave them hooked together & slip them on like a sock before putting on shoes. If you try to velcro them together while wearing them, it is impossible to get the velcro to lay flat & be even at the top & bottom edge. They are very water resistant & stay in place. My only issue with them is the sizing. I need a "large" to fit my shoe (trail running shoes). I run trail ultras (50K to 100 mile), so I have very well muscled calves - even with that, the top of the gaiter is so big that it does not fit my leg! A gap is there big enough to allow debris to enter the gaiter (in fact, I can slip my fingers into the gap it is large enough). If not for the double layer of velcro in the front, I think they would fall down around my ankles while running. To be fair, these are tall enough thet most debris that gets flipped up does not make it to the top of the gaiter. However, what does make it that high, goes right in. If OR would design in some kind of shock cord with a lace lock (so the top could be tightened up to fit your leg) these would be a fantastic gaiter - but for now they are just "good", not "great".

These Flex-Tex Gaitors are well made and light weight. They are perfect for spring, summer, and fall hikes in the woods where you expect your boots or shoes to take on those annoying leaves and pebbles. You won't even know you have them on and you won't need to stop to empty your boots of debris. Easy on, easy off and they won't irritate your leg if worn above a low top sock.
