A hat my kid will actually wear
July 08, 2012
This is a great hat. It is lightweight, durable, functional, comfortable -- everything you want a hat like this to be. And my kid actually wears it! The chin strap is very helpful on windy days. The brim is wide enough to provide good sun protection. The hat folds up easily. My daughter puts this in her summer camp bag everyday just in case she needs it.Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use

I've owned other Outdoor Research hats, and this is made with the same comfortable, durable construction. It looks positively adorable on my 3-year-old boy, and the ability to adjust the headband will come in handy. I ordered the size Medium, and the tag says that it's for ages 3-6. It's just a tad big currently, but it cinches up nicely. That means that he'll be able to wear this one for a few years.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

This is the perfect hat for kids. It works great, its comfortable, easy adjustable straps and its a great hat that grows with your child instead of having to get a new hat for every year. My one year old keeps the hat on which is just amazing! It stays on really well because it has a soft under the chin sinch strap that keeps it in place really well without it bothering her skin. And its absolutely adorable:)Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Quality hat, but lacks full sun coverage
May 09, 2013
I chose an Outdoor Research hat for its lightweight and moisture-wicking properties, which have been wonderful! My little guy hasn't had a sweaty head yet while wearing this hat (big contrast to his heavy cotton floppy hat). Outdoor Research has a lot of good hats for kids, so I ultimately chose the one I thought was cutest: Helios. The Sandstone color is a nice, neutral, lightish shade (just dark enough to not show dirt) and I love the checked pattern--he looks like quite a dude. My son's head circumference is in the 90th percentile for his age (24 months), so I got him the size Medium for ages 3-5 hoping it'll last a couple of Summers. With the sinch on the back of the hat, it fits great and stays put on his head while he plays at the park or in the backyard. My son doesn't like chin straps, and so I easily removed it. (And if we ever take the hat boating or something where wind is an issue, I can reattach it.) The hat packs easily and the foam stiffened brim is resilient even when I'm not too careful about how I stuff it in the diaper bag or away in a cupboard. Its always perfect. My only complaint is that the stiffened brim doesn't shade his face completely the way a wider brimmed, floppy hat would do. I still have to be ultra diligent about putting sunscreen on his nose, cheeks and chin before we venture outside. Ears, back of neck and forehead are covered well by the hat though, and it protects his eyes well.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
Great kid's sun hat
May 13, 2011
It is the perfect sun protection hat for kids. It has really light weight fabric on the top portion so it's not too hot or heavy. The brim is just stiff enough to not flop downward and defeat the sun protection intended purpose, and the adjustable chin strap keep the hat on even or windy beach days. My kid love it!
