Great Gloves
January 06, 2011
I replaced a pair of Marmots with these...they're way better. The fleece liners almost make your hands hot at times, and are easily removable. I acutally roll with a pair of Pl 150's underneath rather than the fleece ones provided. The soft "nose" wipe feature is pretty nice, the wrist cords work easily, and the palms have great grip.
Best glove for the money

Quality and fit are superb, typical of OR. Tough, durable exterior, thanks to OR, no leakage, thanks to the Gore-tex. The fleece liners are warm by themselves in cool temps and even cold temps provided you are active, ie generating body heat. Pockets for heat packs are located on the back of the palm. Place the fleece liners inside the gloves and your hands will surely be warm even in freezing weather. The glove shell itself is lined with micro fleece for when a waterproof glove is needed in cool temps without the additional liner. I find the two Velcro strips on either side of the wrist essential because they prevent the liner from being pulled out of the shell; the silicone fingertips do the same. The designed curvature of the palms reduces hand fatigue. My only gripes are that the Idiot Cord is not removable unless you cut it off, and the SuperCinch gauntlet, while truly being a one handed operation, is attached by a thin piece of fabric that is precariously stitched on; while mine is still intact, I keep a close eye on those stitches and loosen the gauntlet very gently. Still I'd STRONGLY recommend these gloves. If I could rate these at 4 1/2 stars I would.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: questionable stitching at gauntletDid you recently buy the Outdoor Research Arete Gloves? Write a review.

Anything OR works, well made, water proof with Gore Tex and two gloves in one makes these gloves good for the whole season. Another good product from OR.

Spending a lot of time outdoors in the winter time, I needed a warm, durable pair of gloves to keep out the cold and stay dry. Snowboarding or shoveling snow, these gloves are extremely versatile and provide warmth and comfort for whatever activities I choose to do in the winter months.

Seems like a quality glove right out of the package. I had to return them because they are made for short fingers. I typicaally wear a large and have skinny fingers and these were too snug and short. I would order a size up.

These are great gloves with removable liners. The liners are nice but I prefer the smartwool liners. They feel a little tight in width for XL's but are plenty long. When I use without liners they fit me like a glove. LOL.....
Great for Skiers!

I have been searching for a good pair of gloves for a while now, and the last gloves I bought at the same price didn't have liners and soaked through after a few uses. These gloves come with liners, a long cuff to keep out the snow, and velcro to make sure you don't lose the liners. I also like the method for keeping your gloves attached to the wrist.
Pros: Great design, Great valueGood gloves for the price

I have skied with these gloves now ~3 days. Today was ~0F and fairly deep powder. All three days, my hands initially got cold, then as my blood starts pumping, they warm up nicely & stay warm and dry. I like the long gauntlet on the cuff and the mechanism employed for cinching down & releasing the cuff (one-handed operation). The removable liner is held in place by two opposed velcro strips that allows easy & sure hand insertion (the older models I had didn't have these & lead to slipping the hand into the glove outside the liner). The glove sizing is close to accurate as I have a size large hand, but ordered extra large for allowing useage of other, heavier fleece inserts if neccessary. The current liners leave a roomy feel to the glove fit - maybe that's why my hand is cold initially. Bottom line - good, warm glove for a decent price.

I bought these gloves for Ice Climbing and am very happy with them thus far. The fit is a little bit tight for me with the liners on but I definitely prefer tighter fit versus a loose one. The gloves seem really well made and I think the palms will hold up nicely.

When I hike in deep mountain in winter season, the most important piece of gear is glove. No question about it. When it is cold, hands get cold first. It is warm and gortex fabric made. It is 100% watrerproof, no moisture comes in. Absolutely perfect, but it is a little big for my hand.
