Next Generation Hardshell
April 11, 2012
This is the best fully-featured GORETEX hardhsell I've ever used. Lighter, truly more breathable, softer, and stretchier than all past models I've tried.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, PerformanceMy Go-To Jacket

I've worn this jacket - and its prototype - since June and it has quickly become my go-to jacket. That's the jacket that I grab 80% of the time, and have to justify replacing it with something else. I've skied big multi-day tours and climbed long alpine routes in this jacket, and it has a degree of ventilation and stretch that I never thought possible with a Gore-Tex fabric. I'm really looking forward to using it this winter skiing.
Pros: Great design, Performance, Great valueVery Lightweight, Active, and Waterproof!

An incredible jacket. The Gore-Tex Active Shell provides great mobility. With excellent water protection and streamlined features this is an easy choice for lightweight, active water protection. I read other reviews referencing a snug waist. I did not find this. I am 6', 165lbs and 31" waist. I always wear a medium (which is what I wear in this jacket). I can comfortably wear 2-3 layers under the jacket.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, lightweight, excellent mobilityAXIOM

My Axiom Jacket doesn't weigh a thing, doesn't feel like a a plastic bag, packs down into nothing and just lives in my pack.. and the thing is stretchy! This is a sweet little hardshell.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityLight, tough and breathable

This jacket is totally waterproof (hasn't leaked a drop) and is the most breathable hard-shell that I have used. For its incredible weight it is amazingly burly and can take the abuse that you may dish out to it on snow, ice or rock and it looks great just walking around town on a drizzly day. I like its simplicity and clean cut. It does have a trim athletic fit so if you want to layer a lot under it you may want to consider moving up a size. Its stretchiness, however, allows for excellent movement. I'm about 6 feet, 190 lbs. and size large fits fine. The fairly short torso and pocket placement don't interfere with harnesses and pack straps. The main zipper ends quite high and allows you easily seal out stormy weather, along with the well designed hood. And when the weather is good, the light weight and compressibility mean this jacket isn't even noticed stuffed into the corner of your pack. This is an attractive, well-designed and versatile jacket.
