Lightweight and waterproof.
This is my first Outdoor research product. I have always heard good things about them so I figured what the heck. For the price of this sghell it has alot of features found only in higher priced shells.
I was very eager to test how waterproof this shell was. Living in Illinois in January means an occasional wet snow or two. I was at a jobsite surveying when it started to snow. I had the Foray shell in my car so I gave it it's first bath. I sat outside for three hours in a heavy wet snow. This jacket performed flawlessly. The paclite Goretex shed water like no other. It was pretty cold out but with a heavy weight fleece underneath, I stayed plenty warm. I cannot comment on the breathibility as of yet but, the full length zippers on the sides of this jacket have me pretty convinced that it will do just fine.
Overall, this shell seems like a great buy. The quality of the product prompted me to buy on of their sombrero's as well! I can't wait to try these bad boys out in the Boundary waters this summer!!

Great All Around Rain Jacket
I finally found the rain jacket I have been looking for...
- casual fit
- full pit-zips with taped zippers
- gortex pac-lite
- one inside pocket
- two outside pockets with taped zippers
- hood
- similar fit to the Mountain Hardwear Typhoon
Living in Chicago, I use this jacket for cycling, walking, adventuring out in the city. It packs pretty small and it fairly breathable.

Great Rain Jacket
I wear it when needed (raining).
I really like the full pit zips for ventilation and the adjustable hood.
It is very light weight and well made.
You can't go wrong with OR.
Altrec is a great place to buy.

Reliable jacket
I bought this rain jacket recently for my job as a landscaper. I needed a rain jacket that could withstand bad weather, mud, thorns, and general abuse.
It rained most of last week, and so far there's no evidence of any ripping or loss of waterproofness. Gore-Tex feels light weight yet durable. Also, the pockets are big enough to hold my work gloves and clippers. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase.

Good Quality
Have used it for a while now. Seam and zips are well made and the water resistance have been holding up well. it folds nicely when not in used and can be compressed. It fits true to size. the side zipper are interesting although i must say i have not find it that useful for me.

Great Rain Gear
Surviving in torrential downpours and went snow. This jacket is the bomb. Kept me dry and able to vent to cool off if to warm. Packs so small , about the size of a nalgene container. Stash it in your pack for those unexpected events !

Great Ultra-Light Jacket
Great ultra-light shell that does everything for $100 less than comparable models from its competitors.
Only two observations:
I would agree with other users that the fabric is a bit "noisy".
There should be a snapping or velcro flap over where the "poncho" length pit zips terminate at the waistline. When you cinch down the waist tight, there is a tendency for the zippers to get pulled slightly apart at this point. A flap would help to keep them tightly closed.

Superior Product
I love this jacket and wear it everyday in windy wet 35-55* conditions with a tee shirt underneath. The only thing I noticed is that at warmer temperatures it does not breathe well, even with the vents open it has a rubbery feel on the inside that I have not seen with most goretex stuff. I assume this is also what makes it so waterproof and wind resistant. I have also noticed that when I layer underneath it I get real warm, which is probably a good thing. I wear an XL and the jacket stuffs up small for backpacking. I wouldn't recommend this for exercising because of the breathability. I walk along the Pacific everyday in Northern California and this jacket has stood up to some heavy conditions. I would buy it again if I had the chance.

As good as it gets!
This is an awesome jacket. The zippers from the armpit down allow the jacket to ventilate like no other. Weight is minimal and it is very easy to fold up in carry-on luggage. There are plenty of zippers and pockets for whatever you carry. I will take this with me when traveling in Costa Rica and can't imagine a more functional or comfortable design. Stay tuned.

Impeccable Quality, Functional Design
I'm an ecologist/environmental scientist, and I spend an exorbitant amount of time working in the field in what are often horrendous environmental conditions. I am very demanding of my apparel, and I tend to opt for quality over economy. My reasons are evident in the following tale:
Over the summer, I bought some rain gear (against my better judgement) that was bulky, heavy, not breathable, ill-fitting, but easy on my pocketbook. Unsurprisingly, I found very quickly that it was not at all worth the cheap vinyl that it was made of. I used it only a couple of times over the few months I'd had it before tearing both jacket and pants on rogue tree limbs during a field assignment. Rain gear with holes is hardly better than no rain gear at all, and I was forced to spend more money on the quality rain gear I should have purchased in the first place.
I opted with the Outdoor Research brand because I've yet to be let down by their products, and the Foray jacket had exactly the qualities I was looking for: it's immensely durable yet remarkably lightweight; it breathes extremely well with more than ample ventilation; it features high quality taped seams and is backed by a lifetime warranty. I've worked with it in the field in cold (nearly freezing) and wet (constant, steady rain) conditions which would have been absolutely miserable without my Foray range.
What I've found is that Outdoor Research has again delivered a product that performs exactly the way it is supposed to. By itself, the jacket isn't warm, but it's not really supposed to be. With a base layer, and/or a fleece as a second layer, one can be quite comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. The fit could be slightly better for me personally (I have a long torso, and the jacket would fit better if it were just a touch longer in length). In truth, I couldn't ask for more from this outstanding product.

Seems like a great jacket but too large
Once arrived I noticed how light weight the jacket was while also feeling quite durable. It was a little too loud and crinkly for me. And unfortunately the Large fit like an extra-large so I had to return it. Large jackets are always a 'little' too big for me which is what I like. But this was massive on me. I eventually got an OR Mentor jacket in medium which fit quite well.

Excellent shell
I replaced a time-worn Marmot Precip with the OR Foray and am very pleased. While I haven't had the chance to see the water proofing in action (I'm sure it will compare favorably with the Marmot - it is Goretex after all)- the venting on this thing is just great. I had it on this chilly morning breaking camp as a windbreaker - and left it on for the duration of the hike out. Never had that clammy feeling the Precip has, and once I started to sweat a bit the full length pitzip kept me from overheating. Also, the size is great - big enough to fit over an insulating layer like a Thermawrap, but not so flappy that it seems oversize. Overall I am quite happy with this piece.

Great Jacket, Great Puchase!
I purchased this jacket a while ago. I LOVE IT! Its lightweight, packable, & dependable in all weather (i.e. rain, snow, wind). Sometimes I'll wear it under a heavy coat for more insulation against the elements. *Only fault... I bought the 2X, but they don't make a 2X Pant (shucks).
