Description

Made of durable nylon, the soft shell Outdoor Research Transfer Jacket for Men is highly breathable and water resistant. This makes it ideal for high-energy outdoor pursuits such as hiking, climbing, or Nordic skiing in cool, dry weather. It also works well as a warm layer underneath a waterproof shell when there's precipitation in the forecast. The draw cord hem and hook and loop cuff closures cinch tight when you want to block out chilly breezes. Contrasting zippers on the front and pockets give the otherwise strictly utilitarian Outdoor Research Men's Transfer Jacket a bit of colorful contrast.

favorite soft shell
December 09, 2010

i haven't had this long enough to review it's durability, but the the jacket itself is very well made. breathes extremely well - better than any other softshell i've ever tried. however, because of the awesome breathability, you can definitely feel anything over a decent breeze. it's been in the mid 20's here over the past week and i've been walking my dogs with only a tshirt underneath. if you're actually moving, it will keep you warm. the hood is awesome. perfect size. not sure if a helmet would fit under it, but a beanie fits perfectly. the espresso color is really nothing like it looks online. it looks more like the color of black coffee or really dark chocolate. in the sun you can tell it's brown, but inside, it definitely looks almost black. its a really cool color though. the material is much stiffer and durable feeling than most other softshells and feels life it will repel water well. also a little thinner than other softshells. the inside of the material is a micro fleece or something and is very comfortable. haven't had any problems with seems being rough on my arms. i think that's about it. i'm extemely happy i got this jacket - and at an awesome price too. i'd expect to pay close to 200 if i had checked it out without knowing the price.

Great Jacket!
May 11, 2011

This is a great jacket for all kinds of weather. The jacket was a lot stronger and heavier than I expected. It withstands water and wind quite well and is a nice fit not to mention a good value! The jacket sizes are also quite accurate--order the same size as you would any other jacket.

Great hooded softshell
February 27, 2011

I was looking for a waterproof, windproof and breathable softshell for snowshoeing and hiking in NY. The OR transfer came as a recommendation from the Altrec chat and it is working great so far. It is lightweight, waterproof, windproof and breathable. There is a thin fleece lining for warmth and comfort, the hood fits great. The only down sides are no pit zips and the sleeve length is a little long.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value
Comfort: 5 / 5

Not Exactly as Pictured
December 07, 2010

It is a nice coat but it runs small and the espresso is a lot darker than you would expect. It is almost black. You can tell it is espresso but when holding next to my fiance's black North face they almost look identical. Over quality is good. But when I went back to exchange the product a couple weeks later the price had dropped $20 a coat and I bought 5 others for the groomsman in our wedding, pretty disappointing.
